About School of Rock West Broward

Welcome to School of Rock West Broward—a haven for aspiring musicians who love rock n’ roll. We believe live performance is the most fun and effective way to teach an instrument, which is why we get kids playing on stage as quickly as possible. Our classes are tailored to all age groups and levels of proficiency, and instructors are passionate about creating a legacy of music by helping students succeed in music and beyond.

We also believe that music is more than a solo act. That’s why School of Rock West Broward teaches kids to play alone and as part of a team. This approach promotes accountability, speeds up the learning process, and fosters an inclusive community of rockers in West Broward. Students are not only learning an instrument—they’re making friends, building confidence, and becoming better people.

  • School of Rock West Broward’s Rock 101 Program encourages fun and success for our younger students as they begin their journey. The days of traditional instruction with piles of sheet music are over. At School of Rock West Broward, we believe that playing real music is the only path to proficiency and a true appreciation for music.

In Rock 101, students select one instrument to study, and we begin teaching fundamentals: scales, chords, notes, time signatures, and all the rest. Our unique approach to music instruction teaches our students vital fundamentals through songs they know and love, not rote memorization. With real musical context in a fun environment, we give all of our students the knowledge they need to really pursue their passion for music.

All students in West Broward’s Rock 101 Program can expect:

    • Weekly private music lessons on guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, and/or vocals
    • Weekly group rehearsals to reinforce the fundamentals in a team environment
    • A firm grasp of the basics of music theory and technique

Using proprietary set-ups for guitar, bass, drums and keyboard, as well as other tools, we introduce our Rookies to music fundamentals in a fun way. The skills and passion for music that our Rookies learn prepare them for Rock 101 and a lifelong love of music.

With exercises, tools and games customized to their age group, our West Broward Rookies learn the concepts of music theory, rhythm, pitch, form and dynamics as they play alongside their friends. We encourage our students to explore various instruments and play styles so they begin to understand how individual contributions form a band; even the best solo keyboard players or vocalists need to understand how an ensemble works.

Multi-instrumentalist bBurny Pelsmajer has been a fixture at the School of Rock Coral Springs and West Broward from the beginning. He plays 17 different instruments professionally, and has been teaching for over 20 years. He has a degree in Jazz Saxophone performance from the Oberlin Conservatory, and has played with artists and bands too numerous to mention. bBurny has done everything at the School of Rock from teach shows to clean the toilets, from painting the walls to teaching the kids how to melt faces. "I feel like now being the General Manager of our Schools is really like eating a bucket of fried chicken: afterwards I feel greasy and strange, but the experience is fabulous and uniquely satisfying." Christopher Bromley is a Jack-of-all-trades who has learned, loved, and lived music from the dawn of his first day. An adamant follower of the thought that instruments are merely avenues of expression for the one true universal language, he prides himself on learning and adapting styles from all manner of instruments, be it Stringed, Percussion, or Brass. He attended the Berklee College of Music, is a "Graduate" of the School of Rock program, and a former All-Star. He's had the honor of playing with many great acts/people, from Ga-in to Victor Wooten and Adrian Belew. He is a member of several bands, of which he thinks the most aptly named is, "Two dudes and a Guitar" and worst named, "Youth in Asia". He is a fan of Mariah Carey, Jeff Buckley, and fried Oreos. He enjoys long walks on the beach, but enjoys teaching within the musician's haven that is the School of Rock even more so. You can catch him flying kites at odd hours of the night, at the School of Rock teaching impressionable youths, or playing the Hambone at various dive bars in South Florida.

We supported him through his American Idol 2016 journey to 3rd place, now Dalton Rapattoni wants to personally show his thanks! The School of Rock Gives Back Tour Featuring Dalton Rapattoni is coming to Fort Lauderdale and we are excited to be hosting this event at Blue Martini in Fort Lauderdale.
20 year old Dalton Rapattoni (the epitomy of any of our students) started his music path at the age of 11 when his parents enrolled him at the School of Rock in Dallas for guitar lessons. Little did they know the affect School of Rock would have on him personally and professionally. Many School of Rock years later, Dalton became a School of Rock vocal instructor and made it nationally on to the final season of American Idol 2016 and came in 3rd place! Through his American Idol journey, he always remembered that he never got where he is on his own; it was his family & School of Rock that helped mold the man and musician he is today!
A portion of this tours proceeds will be benefiting the charities American Foundation of Suicide Prevention, Rock School Scholarship Fund and New Life Mission.
Visit prekindle.com/events/sor for tickets to the show and the opportunity to meet Dalton Rapattoni!
