PERFORMANCE THEMES & REHEARSAL TIMES
SIGN-UPS FOR THE SPRING 2020 SEASON BEGIN MONDAY, DEC. 23 AT 12PM
GREEN DAY -- MONDAYS 4PM
Green Day has written and recorded numerous hit songs, and remained relevant to generations of young people with their blend of punk, pop, and rock elements. We’ll have tons of rock anthems, punk rock classics, and a few ballads to choose from in this show, recommended for students at all levels.
OZZY VS DIO -- MONDAYS 6PM
During their time fronting Black Sabbath, and in their solo careers, Ozzy Osbourne and Ronnie James Dio shaped the course of hard rock and metal across the decades. In this show, we’ll play the highlights from their time with Sabbath and some tunes from their solo careers!
MODERN PROG -- WEDNESDAYS 5PM
Bands like Tool, The Mars Volta, and Chon use complex time signatures and impressive technical mastery in their music, carrying on the core elements of Prog Rock first explored by bands like Yes, Kansas, Rush and King Crimson. This show, recommended for intermediate and advanced students, will be an opportunity for students to be challenged to max out their knowledge and chops while playing some fun music.
RIOT GRRRLS -- THURSDAYS 5PM
A female lead punk movement that began in the Pacific Northwest in the 90s, Riot grrrl’s DIY, punk philosophy opposed alternative music’s dominant male culture and created, through gigs and pamphlets, spaces where women could discuss issues of gender, race, and equality. Bands like Sleater-Kinney, L7, and Babes In Toyland lead the way, inspiring generations of musicians to follow.
GUITAR HERO 3 SOUNDTRACK -- FRIDAYS 5PM
By popular request, we’re going to learn tunes from a video game playlist! The songs in this list include artists as diverse as Santana, Heart, Queens of The Stone Age, Slayer, Pat Benatar, and Stevie Ray Vaughn. It’s a grab-bag of awesomeness! Who knows, maybe we’ll find time for a GH3 tournament along the way…
DEVO VS BLONDIE -- SATURDAYS 11AM
Devo and Blondie made waves in the New Wave generation, Devo coming from the experimental, art-rock side of things, and Blondie from the original CBGBs punk crew to mega stardom. We’ll play tunes with elements of synth pop, punk rock, and 80s rock in this show with great parts for students at all levels.
