Music programs at School of Rock Tustin combine one-on-one lessons with group band practices

Programs we offer

All Ages

At School of Rock Tustin, our students can take online, one-on-one music instruction from the comfort of their homes. We call this program School of Rock Remote. This online music program contains weekly one-on-one instruction conducted by our expert School of Rock instructors in a safe virtual lesson room.
Students will receive their training using our proprietary education program, The School of Rock Method™, which couples live video lessons with our proprietary Method App™, SongFirst Approach™ and Method Books™.

All of our music programs for kids, teens, and adults are designed to help students gain amazing musical proficiency. School of Rock’s online music lesson program is no exception. Online guitar lessons, online piano lessons, online drum lessons, online singing lessons and online bass guitar lessons are all offered through the School of Rock Remote online program.

Little Wing music program for toddlers and preschoolers
Little Wing
Ages 4-5

At School of Rock Tustin our Little Wing music program for preschoolers and toddlers teaches students foundational music skills by playing games and participating in other interactive musical activities. Little Wing students have one weekly group music lesson in which they use classic rock songs to learn about rhythm, song structure, melody and dynamics through play.

The Little Wing music program is the first step in a young musician's journey. At School of Rock Tustin, toddlers and preschoolers who show an interest in music should start with Little Wing. As they get older, they will progress into the Rookies program, followed by Rock 101 and the Performance Program.

Rookies music program for children
Ages 6-7

At School of Rock Tustin, our music program for children with no previous musical experience (typically ages 6 to 7-years-old) is called Rookies. Rookies students have one weekly group music lesson where they learn fundamentals like chords, rhythm and song structure. Kids get to learn and experiment with multiple instruments so they can later decide which one they ultimately want to continue pursuing in Rock 101.

All of our music programs are designed to inspire students to learn and develop a strong musical proficiency. At School of Rock Tustin, younger students who are not ready for a more comprehensive program like Rock 101 can start in Rookies. Additionally, students who have completed the Little Wing program will progress into the Rookies music program. No prior musical experience is needed for Rookies. Once your child is ready for private music lessons (typically older than first or second graders), they will graduate into our Rock 101 program.

Ages 8-10

Rock 101 is one of School of Rock Tustin's top programs for kids and beginners. Students have one weekly group rehearsal where they learn to play classic rock songs that have been simplified for beginner musicians. Additionally, Rock 101 students in Tustin have a weekly private music lesson with an instructor who helps them learn the concepts and skills behind their performance songs. Every few months, students will take the stage and play at local music venues.

Our music programs for kids in Tustin are designed to get students on stage performing, with the goal of building strong musical proficiency. Younger students at School of Rock Tustin who have participated in the Rookies program can move to our Rock 101 music program once they’re ready. Additionally, students (typically ages 8 to 10-years-old) can begin Rock 101 without any prior experience. The goal of this rock program is to quickly develop a basic competence on students’ chosen instruments before moving on to our famous Performance Program.

Ages 11-18

The Performance Program at School of Rock Tustin is our hallmark music program, where tens of thousands of students enroll each year. It consists of a weekly group rehearsal where kids and teens learn by playing rock music's most iconic songs with a band composed of their peers. Students are assigned songs and parts that are tailored to them based on their age, experience and ability to learn new skills and concepts. Students then work through their parts in weekly private music lessons, refining the skills and concepts that those songs introduce. The goal of this curriculum is to prepare kids and teens for live performances. Every few months, School of Rock Tustin Performance Program students take the stage and play at local Tustin music venues in front of a live audience.

School of Rock Tustin's music programs for kids and teens are designed to inspire by getting students on stage and performing. All of our other music education programs focus on readying students for our famous Performance Program. This is where students develop incredible musical skills. Performance Program students have often gone through our Rock 101 program first or have some previous basic music experience. These young musicians will have custom development plans outlined by their instructors with key concepts reinforced during private lessons and group rehearsals, all with the goal of performing live at a Tustin music venue.

Age 12 and over

Our Songwriting program for kids and teens teaches the fundamentals of songwriting, arrangement and music theory, and helps students compose original works.  At School of Rock Tustin, songwriting students receive one weekly private lesson where they learn concepts, technique and theory on an instrument of their choice. These principles are then applied in a weekly group lesson where students work together on songwriting exercises and lyrical workshops.  Every few months, Songwriting students take the stage to perform or band together to record their original songs.

The Path to Take the Stage

Our Songwriting program for kids and teens in Tustin is designed to create musical proficiency through the creation of original music. Students at School of Rock Tustin who have completed our Rock 101 program can move to our Songwriting program once they’re ready. Additionally, new students who have prior experience with and basic knowledge of an instrument can also begin Songwriting. The program culminates with a live showcase where students perform their original compositions in bands at a local music venue. Students taking the Songwriting Program online will remotely record their original songs to produce a demo of the class's music.

Adult Program
Ages 18+

School of Rock Tustin's Adult Program is for students over 18 years old who are looking to either improve their musical proficiency or pick up an instrument with no prior musical experience. As with most School of Rock music programs, the Adult Program uses a performance-based music education approach. This means the curriculum focuses on learning music concepts and applying them in a live performance setting. Our Adult Music Program includes one weekly private music lesson and a weekly group rehearsal. Every student at School of Rock Tustin is placed in a band of fellow adults and then assigned specific songs as a way of learning key music concepts and skills. Adult students then take the stage to play at a live show in Tustin.

All of our music programs are designed to inspire by getting students on stage and performing, with the goal of building strong musical proficiency along the way. The School of Rock Tustin Adult Program is open to all experience levels and each student will follow a customized learning plan developed by their instructor. Adult students will work together during rehearsal to prepare for a live performance at a real rock venue in Tustin.

Age 13-18

The School of Rock Tustin House Band music program gives students under 18 the opportunity to join a gigging band composed of fellow musicians from their school. These students perform additional live shows throughout the year. All students in the Performance Program have the opportunity to audition for a spot in School of Rock Tustin's House Band. Once selected, House Band members become leaders in their School of Rock community and perform live shows at CA rock venues throughout the year.

Performance is the core of School of Rock's educational approach. Therefore, we create additional opportunities for students to perform on stages throughout Tustin and the rest of CA. The House Band music program allows each school's most talented students the opportunity to join a band and play routinely in front of live audiences. Once a member, students will gain real music experience associated with gigging musicians and will become leaders and mentors inside the School of Rock community.

The AllStars national tour features the best child and teen musicians
Age 17 and Under

The School of Rock AllStars Tour takes the very best students from around the world and sends them on a nationwide summer tour across the United States. Less than 1% of School of Rock students are selected each year to represent School of Rock as an AllStar. All Performance Program students are eligible to audition for this prestigious program. The intensive audition process starts off with video submissions followed by live auditions. Once selected, AllStar students will have an authentic touring experience including traveling on a tour bus, doing tour publicity and starring in nightly performances at famous venues and festivals during a two-week tour.

Becoming an AllStar is the highest level of achievement for a School of Rock student. They play on legendary stages large and small, including The Knitting Factory, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, The Troubadour and Lollapalooza. AllStar students often go on to have accomplished careers in the music industry. Former AllStars have gone on to become touring artists, star in Broadway musicals, get signed to record deals, become finalists on talent competitions like "The Voice" and "American Idol" and have other notable roles in the music industry.

Beginner Guitar Lessons for Kids

At School of Rock Tustin, we offer beginner guitar lessons for kids. Our expert guitar instructors guide your child from start to finish with private instruction and weekly group band rehearsals. Our experienced instructors teach adult students through popular rock songs, and teach students to play guitar in a way that’s challenging and fun. We believe the best way to learn is by doing, which is why we combine weekly private guitar lessons with group band rehearsals. At School of Rock Tustin, we teach beginner guitar lessons for adults in our Adult Program. This program gets students performing onstage at a local Tustin venue.

That’s why at School of Rock Tustin we combine private drum lessons for beginners with weekly band rehearsals—it prepares students to perform live. With years of experience teaching drums in Tustin, our drum instructors teach beginner drum students core techniques, including how to groove, play rudiments and more.

School of Rock Tustin offers beginner singing lessons for kids. Our unique, performance-based approach develops students' musical proficiency by preparing them to perform live. At School of Rock Tustin, our vocal coaches are practicing musicians who integrate key music fundamentals—breathing, posture and more—into a curriculum based on performing with a band. Each week, beginner singing students participate in a private singing lesson and a band rehearsal.

Beginner Singing Lessons for Adults

School of Rock Tustin teaches adults how to sing in our innovative Adult Program. Students develop vocal skills at a challenging pace designed to help you see results with every singing lesson. Adult vocalists learn how to keep tempo, stay on-key and master advanced vocal techniques for a powerful and healthy voice. Our curriculum teaches students how to sing by using popular rock songs that emphasize key concepts. Each week, Adult Program students have a private singing lesson for beginners and group band rehearsal.

Keyboard Lessons for All Skill Levels

Beginner Keyboard Lessons for Kids

At School of Rock we teach differently than other music schools in Tustin. Our curriculum is performance-based, meaning that we prepare students to perform. Our piano lessons for beginners combine weekly private instruction with weekly band rehearsals. At School of Rock Tustin, our beginner keyboard lessons for kids take key concepts and music fundamentals—finger placement, scales, key differentiation and more—and teach them through popular rock songs. This approach inspires and engages students, which results in attaining a high level of musical proficiency. Our piano teachers have years of experience teaching music in the Tustin area, and know how to coach and motivate students of any skill level to play the keyboard.

Beginner Keyboard Lessons for Adults

The School of Rock Tustin Adult Program puts beginner keyboard students in a band. Adult Program students in the Tustin area learn to play piano through a combination of weekly private beginner piano lessons and weekly band rehearsals. At School of Rock, our piano lessons give adult students the chance to perform in a band at local Tustin music venues, taking them out of the classroom and onto the stage.

Our Experienced Music Teachers

All of School of Rock Tustin’s music teachers are experienced musicians devoted to helping students attain musical proficiency. Our instructors guide students one-on-one to personalize learning, inspire confidence and build social skills.

Jordan del Rosario Music Director

Growing up in Ithaca, NY, Jordan taught himself guitar at the young age of nine, starting his journey with The Beatles anthology. Jordan attended R.I.T. for Fine Art in 2002, before he moved to Philadelphia to work at the first franchised School of Rock location in Downingtown, PA. Working at School of Rock Downingtown Jordan was a lighting and sound engineer, guitar instructor and show director for over eight years before moving to CA with his band Cheers Elephant. From 2006-present, Jordan has been the lead guitarist and vocalist for the band Cheers Elephant. They have released three full-length albums and multiple singles, with two million plus listens on Spotify. Their song "Leaves" reached #1 on Hype Machine in 2012 and "Airliner" reached #1 in 2015. Jordan has played multiple national tours and SXSW Official in 2013 and 2014. He's licensed numerous songs to advertisements and TV shows (Sperry Topsider, Drexel University, Virgin Banking, "The Real World," Victory Brewing, ABC Family). Jordan found his home at School of Rock Tustin and was promoted to Music Director in 2015. Jordan has toured nationally with the School of Rock Continental Tour as a Music Director, playing famous venues such as Third Man Records, The Sound Room, House of Blues Dallas and Cobra Lounge.

John Clardy Drum Teacher

John began playing drums at the age of 14, initially learning the usual suspects of Nirvana, Led Zeppelin and the Jimi Hendrix Experience, as well as writing parts for the songs he was writing on guitar. After discovering punk bands like RKL and NOFX, and later on prog rock such as King Crimson, Yes and Mahavishnu Orchestra, the foundation for his style of intense but composed playing was set.

After playing around Dallas and Denton for several years he began touring in 2006, in addition to playing on the Fishboy album “Albatross." In August 2008 he joined the Sacramento, CA band Tera Melos. Since John’s addition to the band they have released three full-length albums and four EPs, and have toured North America, Japan and Europe extensively. He has worked in the studio with engineers Stuart Sikes (White Stripes, Modest Mouse, Loretta Lynn), Matt Pence (Depeche Mode, Aqueduct, Midlake) and Ben Moore (Hot Snakes, Pinback) among others. In addition to Tera Melos, John has also performed internationally with Mike Watt, Marnie Stern, David Kollar and Astronautalis. John has been featured in "Modern Drummer Magazine" twice and was nominated by the editors of the magazine in their 2017 Readers Poll in the Best Experimental Drummer category. He has also contributed several entries to the magazine’s online blog, with a focus on self-maintenance and well-being over rudiments and chops.

Preston Huber Show Director

Preston began playing music at the age of six when his parents bought him his first electric guitar for his birthday. He eventually found his way to drums and learned by playing the popular video game "Rockband."
Preston graduated from OCSA (Orange County School of the Arts) and is set to graduate from the Musician’s Institute in Hollywood, CA soon. Preston has had the opportunity to perform at venues such as the House of Blues in Anaheim, The Yost Theater in Santa Ana, The Whiskey A Go Go in Hollywood, the OC Fair and many, many more. Preston plays many music styles such as rock, funk, R&B and pop. Some of Preston’s biggest music idols are Dave Grohl, John Bonham, Keith Moon and Animal from "The Muppets." You can find Preston playing stages with his band, Josie Johnston.

Zoe Wozniak Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher

Zoe Wozniak started playing guitar at 15, and is a former School of Rock Tustin student. Her first time on the stage, she was so nervous that she could barely move, but slowly became more comfortable performing on stage as part of the School of Rock Tustin House Band. Zoe currently attends Fullerton College in the Recording and Production program. Zoe loves seeing younger musicians grow and understand as she teaches them new music. She is a guitar teacher and bass guitar teacher at School of Rock Tustin.

Jordan Heimburger General Manager

Jordan Heimburger has been with School of Rock since 2013, when he helped open the School of Rock Ballwin and School of Rock Kirkwood locations in the St. Louis, Missouri area as General Manager. He later transitioned to area Music Director. During his time at School of Rock, he has led his schools’ summer tours for five consecutive years, directed a 2018 School of Rock AllStars team and contributed to School of Rock program and curriculum development. Jordan joined School of Rock Tustin as General Manager in February 2019, and enjoys being part of the positive, vibrant music community here. He has also been a professional guitarist since the early 2000s, touring and recording with The Feed, Kevin Bowers’ Nova and John Henry among others. He is currently developing projects in the LA area.

Jesse Wilder Guitar Teacher, Piano Teacher

Jesse Wilder has been performing on stage since age 11. He's a multi-instrumentalist who's toured the world playing with numerous bands, including The Specials, Teen Heroes, Look Daggers and The All-American Rejects. He's played at the Vans Warped Tour and SXSW. Jesse's collaborated with a variety of artists such as John Avila (Oingo Boingo) and Ikey Owens (Mars Volta, Jack White), and his work with Reel Big Fish earned him a gold record for songwriting. In addition to his presence onstage and in the studio, Jesse's put together numerous events and has been a booking agent for acts big and small. Currently, Jesse's teamed up with other School of Rock instructors in the bands Janie and Too Smooth. He is a guitar teacher and piano teacher at School of Rock Tustin.

Bradley Hamburg Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher

Bradley Hamburg grew up in Orange County and started playing guitar at the age of 12. He attended OCSA for high school in the guitar program and then Musician’s Institute, where he earned his AA in Guitar Performance. He listens to and plays a variety of styles including classic rock, metal, funk, reggae and country. Some of his favorite bands include Megadeth, Pantera and Van Halen. Bradley is a guitar teacher and bass guitar teacher, and directs Rock 101 and Performance groups, at School of Rock Tustin.

Kevin Avery Drum Teacher

Kevin Avery is a touring drummer, session artist and drum technician based out of Los Angeles, CA. He is actively writing and playing in Retox, Planet B and other projects. He studied at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA and also independently studied with Thomas Pridgen, Dave Elitch and Matt Garstka. While drum teching for the legendary Dave Lombardo, Kevin learned what it takes to put on the best rock show. Kevin loves to teach and is thrilled to be a drum teacher at School of Rock Tustin.

Michael Malinowski Drum Teacher

Michael Malinowski is a freelance drummer/percussionist who has performed with artists such as Blue Man Group, Monobloco and Sheila E. He has had the privilege of performing at events such as the Playboy Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl and the Brazilian Carnaval at Club Nokia. Michael graduated from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University, Long Beach, with a degree in Percussion Performance and studied classical, jazz and world music. He currently records and performs with multiple groups in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas, most notably Nothing But Flowers and Samba Da Mudança. He is a drum teacher at School of Rock Tustin.

Renee Sigal Vocal Instructor

Renee Sigal has been singing and performing since early childhood, and graduated from the Musician’s Institute: Vocal Institute of Technology. During her time at the Musician’s Institute, she worked with bands such as Underminded (currently members of Sleeping with Sirens), As Night Falls (currently members of Bonnie McKee), Ambriel and Wiggum. She also led the backup vocals for the Hard Rock live performance workshop.

Today, Renee is the on-call vocal coach for NRG Recording Studios in North Hollywood, a world class recording and production facility that has produced some of the world’s best rock artists. Her singing credits include singing “Call Me Maybe” for an iPhone app commercial and doing vocals on EDM tracks, and she’s currently working on her own release for a project called Renee and the Dreamboats. As a vocal instructor at Shcool of Rock Tustin, Renee is able to detect and highlight the gifts within each student, and provide a positive environment to discover and develop their unique talents.

Zoe Puchette Little Wing Teacher, Rookies Teacher, Rock 101 Teacher

Previously a School of Rock Tustin student, Zöé Puchette has been an instructor here for several years, though that doesn't mean her learning has stopped. She currently helps run the Rock 101 groups and Little Wing classes, and occasionally assists with show rehearsals, which means she has to continue improving her teaching, social skills and knowledge of each instrument to help further students’ musical development. Zoe enjoys connecting with students and watching them grow as each month passes, improving musically and socially, and showing off what they've learned at every show. Whether they are here to find a hobby, to discover or return to music, to learn teamwork, or to find a new group of people to connect with, School of Rock Tustin is a wonderful opportunity for anyone to learn music.

Gavino Cossu Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher

Gavi Cossu was born and raised in Italy and taught himself how to play the guitar starting at the age of 12. Artists like Yngwie Malmsteen, John Petrucci, Jason Becker, Nuno Bettencourt and Richie Kotzen inspired his passion for music and his style as a guitarist. He moved to France at age 21, where he earned a degree in Music as a professional guitarist from the prestigious Music Academy International in France and was an active member of the Paris music community, teaching and collaborating on several musical projects. Gavi left Paris to travel to Spain, Thailand and Indonesia, where he taught private guitar lessons, composed for movies and web series, and worked on different musical projects. Gavi has lived in California since 2016, where he continues his passion for rock music as a player and a guitar teacher and bass guitar teacher. He’s been a member of the School of Rock Tustin staff since the spring of 2018.

Luke Cohen Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher

Luke Cohen has been playing guitar since age 10 and has been inspired by European metal bands and power metal bands. He has been touring as a professional guitarist nationally and internationally since 2014 with bands such Leatherwolf, Railgun and Elm Street. Luke started teaching at School of Rock Tustin as a guitar teacher and bass guitar teacher in 2017.
