School of Rock San Ramon Now Open for In-Person Rehearsals

School of Rock San Ramon has been open for 5 years and has developed a thriving community of dedicated families who appreciate their unique performance-based approach to music education. Before the shelter in place orders began, they routinely taught music by putting on rock shows every four months where their students would perform at real venues, onstage, in front of a live audience. They have been operating remotely since mid March in order to provide continued music education that is safe during the current circumstances. However, they have recently acquired a new space that will allow them to one again offer in-person options for their group rehearsals. They are currently enrolling for programs that will include this in-person element starting in October.

The new space is called The School of Rock Annex. The Annex is a short walk from the school and is a huge space with plenty of room to properly maintain the social distance recommendations. It also has high ceilings and no internal walls so it’s perfect for the school’s needs. “We are so pleased to be able to provide our students with the opportunity to have some in person peer-to-peer interaction." said Bekah Barnett, Studio Manager. "Especially during this time, when so many children are struggling with isolation, we are just thrilled to offer these kids what has become a rare opportunity these days: the chance to play music together in the same room and the space where they can bond and forge the connections they thrive on.”

School of Rock San Ramon plans to continue offering fully remote programming for those who do not yet feel comfortable returning to in-person activities. However, in-person rehearsals is something that students and parents have been asking about repeatedly over the past six months, and they are expecting that there will be a lot of interest in this opportunity. That being said, they are extremely mindful of the seriousness of this pandemic, and plan to take every possible precaution to ensure the safety of their students and staff.

Students and staff will be required to wear masks at all times while in the Annex and there will be clearly marked stations for each instrument in order to ensure that proper social distance is maintained at all times. Hand sanitizer will be mandatory upon each entry into the building and students will be required to bring their own instruments to the rehearsal to eradicate the risk of using shared equipment. Additional special procedures will be put into place for vocalists in order to keep the group safe, and for keyboardists and drummers there will be multiple stations set up with these bulky instruments in order to ensure that each instrument is only touched by one student during each rehearsal. In addition, all equipment in the Annex will be fully wiped down and sanitized between groups.

The Annex will be made available for three of their core programs. The Performance Program which is designed for 11-18 year olds of all skill levels, The Rock 101 Program, which is designed for 7-10 year old beginners, and the Adult Program which is for students 19 and older who are passionate about rock and roll.
