Rookies music program for children
Rookies
Ages 6-7

At School of Rock Rancho Santa Margarita, our music program for children with no previous musical experience (typically ages 6 to 7-years-old) is called Rookies. Rookies students have one weekly group music lesson where they learn fundamentals like chords, rhythm and song structure. Kids get to learn and experiment with multiple instruments so they can later decide which one they ultimately want to continue pursuing in Rock 101.

The Path to Take the Stage

All of our music programs are designed to inspire students to learn and develop a strong musical proficiency. At School of Rock Rancho Santa Margarita, younger students who are not ready for a more comprehensive program like Rock 101 can start in Rookies. No prior musical experience is needed for Rookies. Once your child is ready for private music lessons (typically older than first or second graders), they will graduate into our Rock 101 program.

Rock 101 is one of School of Rock Rancho Santa Margarita's top programs for kids and beginners. Students have one weekly group rehearsal where they learn to play classic rock songs that have been simplified for beginner musicians. Additionally, Rock 101 students in Rancho Santa Margarita have a weekly private music lesson with an instructor who helps them learn the concepts and skills behind their performance songs.

The Path to Take the Stage

Our music programs for kids in Rancho Santa Margarita are designed to get students on stage performing, with the goal of building strong musical proficiency. Younger students at School of Rock Rancho Santa Margarita who have participated in the Rookies program can move to our Rock 101 music program once they’re ready. Additionally, students (typically ages 7 to 12-years-old) can begin Rock 101 without any prior experience. The goal of this rock program is to quickly develop a basic competence on students’ chosen instruments before moving on to our famous Performance Program.

The Performance Program at School of Rock Rancho Santa Margarita is our hallmark music program, where tens of thousands of students enroll each year. It consists of a weekly group rehearsal where kids and teens learn by playing rock music's most iconic songs with a band composed of their peers. Students are assigned songs and parts that are tailored to them based on their age, experience and ability to learn new skills and concepts. Students then work through their parts in weekly private music lessons, refining the skills and concepts that those songs introduce. The goal of this curriculum is to prepare kids and teens for live performances. Every few months, School of Rock Rancho Santa Margarita Performance Program students take the stage and play at local Rancho Santa Margarita music venues in front of a live audience.

The Path to Take the Stage

School of Rock Rancho Santa Margarita's music programs for kids and teens are designed to inspire by getting students on stage and performing. All of our other music education programs focus on readying students for our famous Performance Program. This is where students develop incredible musical skills. Performance Program students have often gone through our Rock 101 program first or have some previous basic music experience. These young musicians will have custom development plans outlined by their instructors with key concepts reinforced during private lessons and group rehearsals, all with the goal of performing live at a Rancho Santa Margarita music venue.

Adult music program for students over 18
Adult Program
Ages 18+

School of Rock Rancho Santa Margarita's Adult Program is for students over 18 years old who are looking to either improve their musical proficiency or pick up an instrument with no prior musical experience. As with most School of Rock music programs, the Adult Program uses a performance-based music education approach. This means the curriculum focuses on learning music concepts and applying them in a live performance setting. Our Adult Music Program includes one weekly private music lesson and a weekly group rehearsal. Every student at School of Rock Rancho Santa Margarita is placed in a band of fellow adults and then assigned specific songs as a way of learning key music concepts and skills. Adult students then take the stage to play at a live show in Rancho Santa Margarita.

The Path to Take the Stage

All of our music programs are designed to inspire by getting students on stage and performing, with the goal of building strong musical proficiency along the way. The School of Rock Rancho Santa Margarita Adult Program is open to all experience levels and each student will follow a customized learning plan developed by their instructor. Adult students will work together during rehearsal to prepare for a live performance at a real rock venue in Rancho Santa Margarita.

Age 12-18

The School of Rock Rancho Santa Margarita House Band music program gives students under 18 the opportunity to join a gigging band composed of fellow musicians from their school. These students perform additional live shows throughout the year. All students in the Performance Program have the opportunity to audition for a spot in School of Rock Rancho Santa Margarita's House Band. Once selected, House Band members become leaders in their School of Rock community and perform live shows at CA rock venues throughout the year.

The Path to Take the Stage

Performance is the core of School of Rock's educational approach. Therefore, we create additional opportunities for students to perform on stages throughout Rancho Santa Margarita and the rest of CA. The House Band music program allows each school's most talented students the opportunity to join a band and play routinely in front of live audiences. Once a member, students will gain real music experience associated with gigging musicians and will become leaders and mentors inside the School of Rock community.

The AllStars national tour features the best child and teen musicians
AllStars
Age 17 and Under

The School of Rock AllStars Tour takes the very best students from around the world and sends them on a nationwide summer tour across the United States. Less than 1% of School of Rock students are selected each year to represent School of Rock as an AllStar. All Performance Program students are eligible to audition for this prestigious program. The intensive audition process starts off with video submissions followed by live auditions. Once selected, AllStar students will have an authentic touring experience including traveling on a tour bus, doing tour publicity and starring in nightly performances at famous venues and festivals during a two-week tour.

The Path to Take the Stage

Becoming an AllStar is the highest level of achievement for a School of Rock student. They play on legendary stages large and small, including The Knitting Factory, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, The Troubadour and Lollapalooza. AllStar students often go on to have accomplished careers in the music industry. Former AllStars have gone on to become touring artists, star in Broadway musicals, get signed to record deals, become finalists on talent competitions like "The Voice" and "American Idol" and have other notable roles in the music industry.

Ages 13-19

The Center Stage Artist Search Program is an opportunity to be heard by a major record label. Singers from the ages of 13-19 can submit an audition video as part of the selection process. Selected artists will then have the chance to participate in a studio recording session, and perform at a live artist showcase with record label executives in Los Angeles. We'll also provide School of Rock songwriting camp scholarships for 100 applicants. Submit your video audition today.

At School of Rock Rancho Santa Margarita, our beginner keyboard lessons for kids take key concepts and music fundamentals—finger placement, scales, key differentiation and more—and teach them through popular rock songs. General Manager

Jeremy Grinacoff General Manager

Jeremy Grinacoff is a guitar player, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumental musician and a producer. Originally from Long Island, New York, Jeremy started working at School Of Rock Roslyn in 2010. There he acted as General Manager, Studio Coordinator, Multi- Instrumental Instructor and Show Director.

Receiving his Bachelor of Arts from The State University of New York, College at Oneonta in Music Industry, Music and Music Performance, Jeremy gained knowledge in a wide range of musical genres including blues, rock, pop, classical, jazz and funk. While at Oneonta, Jeremy studied music composition with Grammy-nominated producer, musician and composer Jeremy Wall, a founding member of the jazz fusion band Spyro Gyra. After graduating, Jeremy started his music career playing New York City venues.

In July 2015, Jeremy re-located to California to pursue music full time and is excited to continue sharing his knowledge with the School Of Rock community.

Johnny Oskam Guitar Teacher, Drum Teacher, Singing Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher

Johnny Oskam is an independent blues/rock solo artist from Orange County, California. With over five years of experience in music, Johnny has established himself as a talented guitarist, singer, songwriter and producer, writing his own songs and producing his own albums. He and his band have performed at many shows in Orange and LA County, including many opening slots for international touring acts such as Robin Trower, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and UFO. Johnny is a very open and caring person who finds joy in sharing his knowledge and experience with others and seeing them grow, not only as musicians but as people. His positive attitude and humble approach to teaching makes his students feel comfortable, yet inspired to learn more. The most important lesson Johnny hopes to share with his students is having a positive attitude and a passion for being the best musician they can be. His expertise extends further than just guitar-playing, music theory and songwriting. Johnny’s knowledge includes years of experience with leading a band, playing live in front of large audiences, maintaining positive relationships, producing records, the legal environment of music and more.
Studio Coordinator

Sarah Mehta Studio Coordinator

Sarah is a church vocalist and volunteer ministry leader at Saddleback Church, Lake Forest and The Crossing Church, Costa Mesa. Her inspiration for music performance stemmed from both her elementary music director Ben, and her older brother Jason. Ben started mentoring Sarah at age five in the basics of vocal instruction and performance, while her brother Jason sparked her interest in rock music through playing both the acoustic and electric guitar around the house. Sarah’s favorite genres of music are classic rock, hard rock, blues and worship. Some of her favorite bands include The Police, Bread, The Monkees, Foreigner, The Beatles, ACDC, For King & Country and The Black Keys.

In addition to her personal background in music, Sarah’s professional career passions are in both ministry and business administration. Sarah has had experience leading both junior high and high school students in her local community for over five years at her two churches, and she holds an Associate's Degree in Business Administration while presently pursuing her Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting at Cal State Fullerton University.

Sam Hooks Drum Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher, Guitar Teacher, Piano Teacher

Sam grew up in southern Orange County until attending college at Oregon State. Upon graduation, Sam moved back to California to pursue his music career. Studying music for almost 10 years, he started out playing drums, guitar and keyboards while playing in several different bands. He is a multi-instrumentalist and focuses on writing, performing and teaching. Sam is constantly learning and challenging himself and continues to instill that mindset in each of his students.

With over 10 years of experience in the music industry, Johnny Oskam has established himself as a talented guitarist, singer, songwriter and producer, writing his own songs and producing his own albums. He and his band have performed at many shows in Orange and LA County, which included opening slots for international touring acts such as Robin Trower, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and UFO. His last record, "In My Shadow," was nominated for Best Blues Album of 2017 by The Independent Music Awards. He and his brother, Michael Oskam, also were nominated for Best Producers for that same record. Johnny is a very open and caring person who finds joy in sharing his knowledge and experience with others and seeing them grow, not only as musicians but as people. His positive attitude and humble approach to teaching makes his students feel comfortable, yet inspired to learn more. The most important lesson Johnny hopes to share with his students is having a positive attitude and a passion for being the best musician they can be. His expertise extends further than just guitar-playing, music theory and songwriting. Johnny’s knowledge includes years of experience with leading a band, playing live in front of large audiences, maintaining positive relationships, producing records, the legal environment of music and more. He is the Music Director and a vocal instructor, guitar teacher, bass guitar teacher, piano teacher and drum teacher at School of Rock Rancho Santa Margarita.

Adam Stolinski Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher, Piano Teacher

Adam Stolinski grew up in Laguna Niguel, California and picked up the guitar at the age of 12 after having discovered a love for music. His musical journey eventually led him to take up private lessons with California-based artist and TV show host Marc Seal and later graduate from the Musicians Institute in Hollywood (MI), where he also started to pick up the piano. During his time at MI he gained knowledge in various different styles of music, such as rock, blues, funk, pop, country, classical, jazz and fusion. This gave him a wide array of musical influences, including artists like Dream Theater, AC/DC, Vulfpeck, Meshuggah, Snarky Puppy, John Coltrane, J.S. Bach and Allan Holdsworth. He also has over five years of experience performing, writing and recording with his band, as well as writing and producing his own solo projects. Right now, he focuses on being a guitar teacher, bass guitar teacher and piano teacher at School of Rock Rancho Santa Margarita.

Adam wishes to help completely new students get started on their own musical journeys, as well as help take more experienced players to the next level with his knowledge of technique, music theory and musicianship. Adam constantly searches for new knowledge to learn and improve on his instruments, as well as his understanding of music as a whole, and he strives to instill that same mentality in his students.

Jordan Soto Drum Teacher

Jordan Soto is an artist/drummer/artist consultant who's been in the music industry 13+ years and has been playing drums since the age of six with various bands worldwide. With a degree in music from Musician's Institute in Hollywood, Jordan has developed as an artist in all genres and has gathered important information on how to be a proficient musician, and on how the modern day band/artist makes a living and gets exposure through digital marketing, networking and touring. Jordan's goal for his students is to mold them and prepare them for the wonders and roadblocks of the music industry. Jordan launched his project "Reliance" in February 2019. He is a drum teacher at School of Rock Rancho Santa Margarita.

Austin Elrod Drum Teacher

It’s always been about the music for Austin Elrod. He grew up in Louisville, Kentucky and began his quest into the music world at the age of eight when he started playing trumpet in his elementary school's band. This infatuation quickly ended, and he began setting his eyes on the snare drum. He soon switched instruments in the school band, and ever since has had a strong affinity for percussion and drums. He eventually began playing full drum set within a year of switching instruments. He continued playing through school, and also got involved with playing at church, in local bands, and for various events in and around the community. He moved to Los Angeles at the age of 23 and has since been taken all over the world to play music. He has performed with countless bands and artists and an esteemed list of finalists and winners of "The Voice," "American Idol" and "America’s Got Talent." He has worked in the studio, as well, and is appreciated for his musicality and ability to see a project as a whole. He currently resides in Anaheim, furthering his already deep musical career there. He is a drum teacher at School of Rock Rancho Santa Margarita.
