Dom’s love of Rock music started at the age of 7. His parents noticed him constantly banging the pots and pans around the house to the point of driving the whole family crazy. It was time to get him some drum lessons. Dom was hooked from the first lesson. He played in bands, performing live shows from the age of 13 and was promoting his own gigs at a very young age. To this day, Dom still plays in a rock band, performing gigs around Perth, Western Australia. After 20 years in the property business, Dom decided to take the leap of faith and open School of Rock Perth, believing it is exactly what Perth needs. His involvement in learning and playing music, from a very young age, is the reason he has forged long life friendships and relationships that he treasures. Dom says that the most satisfying and rewarding thing about owning School of Rock, is seeing how kids come out of their shell and become happy, confident and passionate young musicians who love working with each other. His love of music has also seen him become involved in the Concert Promoting business. Finally, Dom lives and breathes Music on a daily basis and is right at home.

Mel Kay studied music for four years at The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts graduating in 2015 and being accepted back into Honours. She started teaching four years ago and has since had experience teaching privately, in schools, and in various music academies. She has had over ten years experience on stage with over twenty drama, and musical theatre productions under her belt along with performances in short films and feature films that have gone on to be shown internationally. Mel was also recently in a show called “A Flat Circle” which she co wrote, sang in, and acted in. The show was staged in the Perth Fringe Festival and raised $1,500 in support of raising awareness about the effects and damage caused by domestic violence in our world.

Mel Kay released her first single in 2014, Lonely Now, which received commercial airplay and was voted top ballad on CD baby. She is passionate about her music reaching those who have been hurt and in being a voice for the voiceless in the community. Mel now writes the music for her band Liberte which was founded in 2015 and is a 10 piece band that is focused on creating music aimed to motivate people to know their own inner power. With a mix of funk, pop, and indie music the band likes to describe their sound as a mix of Lorde, The Browhorn Orchestra, Kate Miller Heidke, and Jarryd James. In 2016 the band released singles “Upside Down Town” and “Feel Alright” both tunes aimed to empower the under dog. Upside Down Town was noticed by Sydney label The Aa&R Department and was since signed to them which lead to international airplay for the song and multiple reviews worldwide. Both songs have now had international airplay alongside being featured in multiple local papers, performed live on foxtel, and at various live shows.

Mel Kay also performs solo on the keys, as well as in a trio, and works with Perth cover band Blue Gene as a singer and keys player.

She loves teaching and passing on her passion for music to others who are keen to learn and create.

“Music can change the world because is changes people. It certainly changed me.”

Depoimentos

  • “School of Rock is the best thing we have done for our three children. They learn self-confidence, teamwork, and musicianship in an environment that is safe and free of the typical age-barrier restrictions that are often inherent in other student activities. The youngest and oldest kids in the school work together and everyone is an equal on stage. I wish other youth activities were as welcoming.”
    — Tony C., parent, Great Valley, PA
  • ““I can’t tell you what an enriching experience this has been for our whole family and especially for Josh. The instructors there were so much more than teachers for Josh, they were his idols and his role models. It has been an amazing time, and I know that as Josh gets older he will look back on all the memories he made at the SOR fondly. You have created something special there, and I hope you understand what an impact your efforts have had on the lives of these children.Thank you for everything!"”
    — Tim Gallagher, Father of School of Rock Denver student
  • “School of Rock has taught me how to perform in public with self-confidence.”
    — Dan, 18, Downingtown, PA
  • “You want your kid to be passionate about something, whether it be sports, scouts, dance or whatever. School of Rock does this for my son. We have discovered a talent we didn't know he had. My son would live at School of Rock if he could. We’ve already recommended the program to several friends.”
