  • Our Rock 101 Program at School of Rock Denver is focused on making the first steps of a young student’s journey both fun and successful. The days of mundane music instruction are over. At School of Rock Denver, we believe that playing music together is the only real path to mastering an instrument and developing a true love for music.

In Rock 101, we focus our instruction on the one instrument that students have chosen to study. Whether we’re teaching scales, chords, notes, or time signatures, we put concepts in context so students understand how the principles they learn are applied to real music. Using some of the world’s most famous songs and infusing fun into every chord, Rock 101 allows Denver students to enhance their skills and move on to our Performance Program.

Jenn graduated from CU-Boulder College of Music in 1994 with a BA in Music. She's been in several bands that played a number of venues in and around the Denver area. After college, she formed her first band in Denver-Anasazi. They played local favorite venues including Herman's Hideaway, where they were noticed in the New Talent Showcase. AfterAnasazi, Jenn joined The FabulousBoogienauts, who played The Gothic, The Fillmore, The Bluebird, and tons of dive bars in between including Lions Lair. After the FabulousBoogienauts' split, Jenn started an all rocker girl band calledThe Blackouts. The Fabulous Boogienauts reunited recently and Jenn and the band are back on the scene headlining shows at Herman's Hideaway, various other venues around Denver, and the main stage at the People's Fair! As a School of Rock vocal instructor, she is thrilled to be sharing her knowledge with up and coming rockers of all ages. Currently, you can also catch Jenn's daughter singing and jamming on a pink heart-shaped DaisyRock bass in Rock101 rehearsals.

I'm Ben Yearley. I was born in Philadelphia. I started playing snare drum at age ten; I picked up kit the next year and studied privately throughout middle school and high school. I've played professionally since 18 and studied as a percussion performance major at McNally Smith College of Music with Hall of Fame drummer Gordy Knudtson from the Steve Miller Band. I’ve had the privilege to be taught privately by Prince’s drummer, John Blackwell in Boston, as well as Minnesota's finest pit drummer, David Stanoch. I enjoy all styles of music, put emphasis on metronomes, groove, improvisation as well as strict techniques and finesse. I don’t believe in shortcuts. Music delivers an aspect of healing and mindfulness. I enjoy teaching, sharing my passion and seeing results from hard work.

  • “My kids have been enrolled in SoR Denver for five years - eventually mastering proficiency at their instruments, meeting peers interested in rock and eventually forming their own band. We love the leadership, instruction, and opportunities to perform in front of crowds - even Red Rocks. The seasonal shows and performance program are integral to becoming musicians. Our family highly recommends School of Rock!”
    — Alison Evans, Denver CO
  • “Really amazing - so much more than just music lessons! Our son is not only receiving musical training from first-rate musicians, they are teaching him about the importance of working as part of a band - great work ethic, responsibility, cooperation - and they lead by example. Just can't say enough about this great organization - if you don't believe me, come see a live show. The kids will blow you away!”
    — Rocker Mom, Denver CO
  • “We are absolutely delighted with the music program here. Our kids not only learn how to play an instrument, they get to collaborate with other musicians and play performances early on. We are so impressed with how much they have learned and how excited they are about music. And best of all, their appreciation for music has completely transformed. ”
