I started my musical career with 5 years of piano and keyboard lessons focusing mainly on classical music. After getting accepted into CAPA, changed gears to drums and percussion. My early days were spent learning everything I could from local jazz great Roger Humphries. Eventually made my way into the All City Orchestra playing a number of percussion instruments from snare drum to timpani. I spent most of my high school years in a cover band playing local events and parties. While in college, I joined my first all original band, Scapegrace and we played together for almost a decade. We recorded two albums and played all over the city and opened for national acts. We honed our skills at the famous punk club in Oakland, The Electric Bannana. After Scapegrace disbanded, I found joy in playing traditional Irish folk and our band played a couple local Irish Festivals. When our daughters came around, I put the sticks down for a bit. Once Olivia started at the school and I saw how she changed, it sparked something in me and I decided to start working on my chops again. I eventually accepted a position as a drum instructor, which lead into helping out with performance and now I’ve become the Music Director. I truly enjoy watching these great kids learning to play music and it’s something they can continue with all of their lives. The stage truly is the best teacher and I can’t wait to see them up on stage for every performance!!!

  • “We love SoR and are happy that we have discovered this location in Castle Shannon. My son, Luc, has been playing bass for almost 3 years, and while he is a good bassist for being 14, Mitch and Nick have been able to take him to the next level by teaching him new techniques as well as a multitude of ways to play smoother and correct the bad habits that he has developed over the years. The instructors are musicians themselves and their focus is to play music and to help their students reach their full potential with their chosen instrument. I would definitely recommend SoR to anyone who is looking to take their playing to the next level. ”

  • “I love that my daughter has been accepted into a group of encouraging peers and staff that build her up with confidence and let her shine on the stage! The students and staff have become a close nit second family and going into lessons and performance band is something that is looked forward to all week. I still can't believe that my daughter has been on tour with the school of rock house band traveling to Chicago and playing the summer stage at the rock n roll hall of fame !!”

  • “SOR is the best thing for my child. She loves it and is completely self motivated. She has made a lot of really nice and good friends with the same interests. She has had the best experience. And opportunities that we never would have been able to find through other programs or activities. The instructors and staff are the best! ”
Neely C, Parent, Castle Shannon, PA

Thank you School of Rock! ”
