NEW WAVE - Sundays 12-2pm
New Wave emerged from punk rock in the late 1970s and early 1980s with amazing style and musical wildness! The scene took punk and pop music to a more eccentric destination with lots of synth and a new quirky approach to music. We will cover bands like Talking Heads, The Cure, Devo, Blondie, Duran Duran, The B-52’s, New Order and many more!
SONGWRITING - Sundays 2-4pm
This group will learn the fundamentals of songwriting, arranging, and performance in an interactive group setting. Through exercises, activities and hands-on training, students will learn to articulate and express creative ideas, overcome writer’s block, analyze songwriting techniques, collaborate with others and accept constructive criticism. In their weekly rehearsals, the songwriters will write and arrange their own music and learn about some of the best songwriters ever. Students will perform their original songs at the end of the season!
POWERPOP - Sundays 4-6pm
Finding space between Rock ‘n Roll and Pop music, Powerpop is characterized by catchy, melodic hooks paired with vocal harmonies, and energetic performances. And while Powerpop can be considered "happy"-sounding, it’s often written with undertones of yearning, longing, or despair. Rebelling against the pretentiousness of Rock music, Powerpop (a term coined by Pete Townsend of The Who) spans generations, from bands of the 1960’s all the way to the 2000’s; The Beatles, The Who, Big Star, The Posies, The Replacements, Blur, Oasis, Blur, Guided by Voices, Cheap Trick, and The Cars.

RADIOHEAD VS. MUSE - Mondays 4:30-6:30pm
Radiohead vs. Muse is an ambitious challenge for our students! Both bands have records that span from epic to intimate, from guitar driven rock songs to introspective synthesizer pieces with layered vocal harmonies. With albums Ok Computer, Kid A, In Rainbows, Black Holes and Revelations, Absolution and The Resistance, these bands have paved the way in influencing countless other musicians and inspiring listeners worldwide.
SHOEGAZE - Tuesdays 4:30-6:30pm
Coming from the UK in the 80s, these bands created a distinctive sound using effects pedals and distorted noise playing alt rock/pop songs. These bands were dubbed shoegaze because they were often looking down at the enticing array of pedals during shows to create some of the most beautifully noisy and emotional songs ever. Bands like My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Lush, Ride, Swervedriver, Cocteau Twins, DIIV, and more.
CLASSIC METAL - Tuesdays 6:30-8:30 OR Wednesdays 6:30-8:30pm
Classic Metal, developed in the late 60’s/early 70’s, discovered its roots in blues rock, psychedelic rock, and acid rock and went on to develop it’s signature - a thick, massive sound, characterized by distortion, extended guitar solos, emphatic beats, and extreme loudness. Classic Metal has become a worldwide phenomenon and includes artists such as Metallica, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, King Diamond, Black Sabbath, The Scorpions, Motörhead, Van Halen, UFO, Deep Purple & many many more.
NIRVANA - Thursdays 4:30-6:30pm OR Thursdays 6:30-8:30pm
The 90s were one of music’s most important decades as grunge and alternative music took over the airwaves and popular culture. Nirvana is one of the most influential catalysts of the Grunge movement. Characterized by their punk aesthetic, Nirvana's fusion of pop melodies with noise, combined with their themes of abjection and social alienation, brought them global popularity. Billboard described their work as a "genius blend of Kurt Cobain's raspy voice and gnashing guitars, Dave Grohl's relentless drumming and Krist Novoselic's uniting bass-work that connected with fans in a hail of alternately melodic and hard-charging songs."
