Music programs at School of Rock Plano combine one-on-one lessons with group band practices

School of Rock in Plano is happy to serve Plano and the surrounding areas in Texas including Legacy West and Willow Bend. We are proud to offer music classes to help teach our community how to play instruments with skill and confidence, offering everything from drums, guitar, songwriting, house band and vocals. Students can learn music in a supportive and encouraging environment and then go on to perform at one of the many great local spots such as Love & War in Texas. Plano is the perfect place for budding musicians to take their skills to the next level.

Rock 101 music program in Plano for kids and beginners
Rock 101
Ages 8-13

Rock 101 is one of School of Rock Plano's top programs for kids and beginners. Students have one weekly group rehearsal where they learn to play classic rock songs that have been simplified for beginner musicians. Additionally, Rock 101 students in Plano have a weekly private music lesson with an instructor who helps them learn the concepts and skills behind their performance songs.

The Path to Take the Stage

Our music programs for kids in Plano are designed to get students on stage performing, with the goal of building strong musical proficiency. Younger students at School of Rock Plano who have participated in the Rookies program can move to our Rock 101 music program once they’re ready. Additionally, students (typically ages 8 to 13-years-old) can begin Rock 101 without any prior experience. The goal of this rock program is to quickly develop a basic competence on students’ chosen instruments before moving on to our famous Performance Program.

Ages 8-18

The Performance Program at School of Rock Plano is our hallmark music program, where tens of thousands of students enroll each year. It consists of a weekly group rehearsal where kids and teens learn by playing rock music's most iconic songs with a band composed of their peers. Students are assigned songs and parts that are tailored to them based on their age, experience and ability to learn new skills and concepts. Students then work through their parts in weekly private music lessons, refining the skills and concepts that those songs introduce. The goal of this curriculum is to prepare kids and teens for live performances. Every few months, School of Rock Plano Performance Program students take the stage and play at local Plano music venues in front of a live audience.

The Path to Take the Stage

School of Rock Plano's music programs for kids and teens are designed to inspire by getting students on stage and performing. All of our other music education programs focus on readying students for our famous Performance Program. This is where students develop incredible musical skills. Performance Program students have often gone through our Rock 101 program first or have some previous basic music experience. These young musicians will have custom development plans outlined by their instructors with key concepts reinforced during private lessons and group rehearsals, all with the goal of performing live at a Plano music venue.

Rookies music program for children in Plano
Rookies
Ages 6-7

At School of Rock Plano, our music program for children with no previous musical experience (typically ages 6 to 7-years-old) is called Rookies. Rookies students have one weekly group music lesson where they learn fundamentals like chords, rhythm and song structure. Kids get to learn and experiment with multiple instruments so they can later decide which one they ultimately want to continue pursuing in Rock 101.

The Path to Take the Stage

All of our music programs are designed to inspire students to learn and develop a strong musical proficiency. At School of Rock Plano, younger students who are not ready for a more comprehensive program like Rock 101 can start in Rookies. Additionally, students who have completed the Little Wing program will progress into the Rookies music program. No prior musical experience is needed for Rookies. Once your child is ready for private music lessons (typically older than first or second graders), they will graduate into our Rock 101 program.

Songwriting
Age 12 and over

Our Songwriting program for kids and teens teaches the fundamentals of songwriting, arrangement and music theory, and helps students compose original works.  At School of Rock Plano, songwriting students receive one weekly private lesson where they learn concepts, technique and theory on an instrument of their choice. These principles are then applied in a weekly group lesson where students work together on songwriting exercises and lyrical workshops.  Every few months, Songwriting students take the stage to perform or band together to record their original songs.

The Path to Take the Stage

Our Songwriting program for kids and teens in Plano is designed to create musical proficiency through the creation of original music. Students at School of Rock Plano who have completed our Rock 101 program can move to our Songwriting program once they’re ready. Additionally, new students who have prior experience with and basic knowledge of an instrument can also begin Songwriting. The program culminates with a live showcase where students perform their original compositions in bands at a local music venue. Students taking the Songwriting Program online will remotely record their original songs to produce a demo of the class's music.

At School of Rock Plano, our students can take online, one-on-one music instruction from the comfort of their homes. We call this program School of Rock Remote. This online music program contains weekly one-on-one instruction conducted by our expert School of Rock instructors in a safe virtual lesson room.
 
Students will receive their training using our proprietary education program, The School of Rock Method™, which couples live video lessons with our proprietary Method App™, SongFirst Approach™ and Method Books™.

School of Rock’s online music lesson program is no exception. Online guitar lessons, online piano lessons, online drum lessons, online singing lessons and online bass guitar lessons are all offered through the School of Rock Remote online program.

Adult Program
Ages 18+

School of Rock Plano's Adult Program is for students over 18 years old who are looking to either improve their musical proficiency or pick up an instrument with no prior musical experience. As with most School of Rock music programs, the Adult Program uses a performance-based music education approach. This means the curriculum focuses on learning music concepts and applying them in a live performance setting. Our Adult Music Program includes one weekly private music lesson and a weekly group rehearsal. Every student at School of Rock Plano is placed in a band of fellow adults and then assigned specific songs as a way of learning key music concepts and skills. Adult students then take the stage to play at a live show in Plano.

The School of Rock Plano Adult Program is open to all experience levels and each student will follow a customized learning plan developed by their instructor. Adult students will work together during rehearsal to prepare for a live performance at a real rock venue in Plano.

AllStars
Age 17 and Under

The School of Rock AllStars Tour takes the very best students from around the world and sends them on a nationwide summer tour across the United States. Less than 1% of School of Rock students are selected each year to represent School of Rock as an AllStar. All Performance Program students are eligible to audition for this prestigious program. The intensive audition process starts off with video submissions followed by live auditions. Once selected, AllStar students will have an authentic touring experience including traveling on a tour bus, doing tour publicity and starring in nightly performances at famous venues and festivals during a two-week tour.

Becoming an AllStar is the highest level of achievement for a School of Rock student. They play on legendary stages large and small, including The Knitting Factory, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, The Troubadour and Lollapalooza. AllStar students often go on to have accomplished careers in the music industry. Former AllStars have gone on to become touring artists, star in Broadway musicals, get signed to record deals, become finalists on talent competitions like "The Voice" and "American Idol" and have other notable roles in the music industry.

At School of Rock Plano, we offer beginner guitar lessons for kids. Our expert guitar instructors guide your child from start to finish with private instruction and weekly group band rehearsals. Our experienced instructors teach adult students through popular rock songs, and teach students to play guitar in a way that’s challenging and fun. We believe the best way to learn is by doing, which is why we combine weekly private guitar lessons with group band rehearsals. At School of Rock Plano, we teach beginner guitar lessons for adults in our Adult Program. This program gets students performing onstage at a local Plano venue.

School of Rock Plano offers beginner singing lessons for kids. Our unique, performance-based approach develops students' musical proficiency by preparing them to perform live. At School of Rock Plano, our vocal coaches are practicing musicians who integrate key music fundamentals—breathing, posture and more—into a curriculum based on performing with a band. Each week, beginner singing students participate in a private singing lesson and a band rehearsal.

Beginner Singing Lessons for Adults

School of Rock Plano teaches adults how to sing in our innovative Adult Program. Students develop vocal skills at a challenging pace designed to help you see results with every singing lesson. Adult vocalists learn how to keep tempo, stay on-key and master advanced vocal techniques for a powerful and healthy voice. Our curriculum teaches students how to sing by using popular rock songs that emphasize key concepts. Each week, Adult Program students have a private singing lesson for beginners and group band rehearsal.

Beginner Keyboard Lessons for Kids

At School of Rock we teach differently than other music schools in Plano. Our curriculum is performance-based, meaning that we prepare students to perform. Our piano lessons for beginners combine weekly private instruction with weekly band rehearsals. At School of Rock Plano, our beginner keyboard lessons for kids take key concepts and music fundamentals—finger placement, scales, key differentiation and more—and teach them through popular rock songs. This approach inspires and engages students, which results in attaining a high level of musical proficiency. Our piano teachers have years of experience teaching music in the Plano area, and know how to coach and motivate students of any skill level to play the keyboard.

General Manager Sam
Sam
General Manager
Sam relocated back to Dallas to be a part of School of Rock Plano after spending 10 years in the healthcare realm where she specialized in behavioral and mental health for children. During her time in the field, Sam became a regional de-escalation/education trainer to aid in her staff’s development towards catering to the younger neurodivergent population—a cause she highly rallies behind. She also ran behavioral classrooms that helped get students back into their parish schools through behavioral analysis techniques and programs.

Sam grew up in the music subculture from the ’90s onward and was inspired to jump into the music community after hearing NOFX’s “Pump Up The Valuum” on Punk-O-Rama’s Volume 5. Sam has been dabbling in her own musical development since age 11 on vocals and guitar. In her free time, Sam enjoys listening to all genres of music and playing around on MixCraft Pro to find new ways of production. She’s also an avid show-goer and lover of live music.

Andrew began pursuing guitar at 11 years old after growing up watching his father play and seeing Kiss perform on the Paul Lynn Halloween special; his love of rock and roll was solidified and he knew this was what he wanted to do.

After being in several local bands, and receiving guitar lessons from Dimebag Darrell of Pantera, Andrew's path led him to Hollywood, California to attend the Musicians Institute. Since then, Andrew has had the opportunity to play with bands nationally and open for many iconic bands right here in the Dallas area, like Queensryche, Stryper, Drowning Pool, and Andy Timmons. He has also had his music played on radio stations worldwide.

Andrew currently plays for several bands, performing in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and loves helping students find their passion for music just like he did.

Keyboard + Piano Teacher
Krissy was put into piano lessons at age 7. She discovered KISS around the same time and has wanted to pursue music since. She picked up bass and guitar during adolescence and began writing songs at age 13, took lessons here and there to refine technique, and then picked up drums at 19 years old.

She moved to Dallas in 2011 and sang for an alternative rock band for a couple years. Then began to play keyboards, sing backing vocals, and cookie monster scream for several original industrial and numetal bands. She is on a couple of streamable albums and has gone on tour. She has opened for many national acts and was featured at one of Vinnie Paul's Halloween Birthday Bashes.

She currently plays keys and drums for different tribute bands, keys and vocals for a horror punk band, and lead guitar for a rockabilly group.

Preston’s passion for music started when he received guitar lessons from his father at the age of 9. His love for drumming followed soon after. After formal drum training for three years, Preston continued self-teaching drums for the remainder of his musical career. He looks up to progressive drummers such as Nathan Camerena, and Shane Russell, and a handful of jazz greats like Buddy Rich.

In pursuit of performance, Preston has played professionally with his current band, Mile End Beach. He is nearing three years of professional performance, and roughly a decade of drumming. Preston sought further to spread his influence in the musical industry through teaching. He wishes to inspire the next generation of drummers and musicians.

Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher
Gavin started playing guitar at 10 years old after becoming inspired by guitar-driven music such as Jimi Hendrix and Foo Fighters. Gavin knew he wanted to be a musician early on in life after picking up the guitar for the first time.

When Gavin hit high school he played in a few bands, including his school's jazz band. This is where Gavin went on to become an all-state honors jazz guitarist. Gavin is now a guitar student at the University of North Texas, where he has played in many of the school's jazz ensembles.

Gavin is also the lead guitarist for the DFW-based indie pop band Topline Addicts, which has garnered over two million streams on Spotify as well as some radio airplay.

Alex began learning guitar at the age of 14 at School of Rock Plano. She was a late bloomer when it came to music, only showing interest in it when she hit middle school, but has been playing in bands and playing solo around the DFW area.

During that time, Alex started listening to artists like David Bowie and Lou Reed. From there, she began branching out to find her sound and make her music. She was heavily inspired by alternative rock, especially from female artists like Orla Garland. Alex now resides in Denton, where she continues to play her music in her band. She is attending college and has aspirations to receive her associate's degree in Commercial Music.
Vocal Teacher Paris

Vocal Teacher
Paris is a Music Therapy major at Texas Woman's University. She made it to state all four years of high school for her solos in solo and ensemble competitions. The extensive classical training Paris has received has played a vital role in shaping her musical abilities and provides Paris with a strong foundation.

Paris has been trained to sing in various languages and styles, including rock. Additionally, she is the singer of Midnight Session, a band that regularly performs in the local DFW area. Midnight Session has allowed Paris to share her love for music with a wider audience and hone in on the skills necessary for stage performance. Paris was also accepted into the opera program her freshman year at Texas Women’s University and has been in choir almost all of her life, making her a perfect fit for School of Rock Plano!
Drum Teacher Joell

Originally born in Kinston, NC, Joell moved to Dallas to live with his wife. He has studied music formally since about the fifth grade, beginning with drum lessons. At the age of 13, he had his first job teaching drum lessons at the local music store. He began playing drums for his church before taking that job until moving to Texas where he would play as needed.

Joell continued his education at Elizabeth City State University in Elizabeth City, NC. While there, he matriculated through several degree paths within the music department including music education, performance, composition, and sound recording, culminating in a B.A. in General Music.

Joell loves music, and his greatest desire is to share his love for music and spread the knowledge of music to anyone who desires to learn. Also, he is a lifelong student with a belief that anyone has something that they can teach regardless of their age or experience level. Let's play!

Adam has been with School of Rock since 2023. His stage name is Adam Stixx and he is a professional drummer for a variation of bands throughout the DFW area. Adam has made an impact in a variety of ways on the local drumming community and has also toured with The Chad Wesley band and Johnny Taylor. Adam is also endorsed by Soultone Cymbals.

Adam was born in Jackson, Mississippi and his favorite band is the Eric Gails Band. He has been playing drums since the age of 3 and continued with his music education at Jackson State University. Adam became a drum instructor after finding his passion for sharing his love of music and the techniques of drumming with other growing musicians.

Bridgette started singing before she could talk and knew that she wanted to pursue music at 4 years old. Bridgette spent all of her school years in choir, show choir, varsity choir, and jazz choir. She also joined her first rock band during her senior year of high school. Shortly after, she began taking vocal lessons at Septien Entertainment.

As an adult, Bridgette fueled her passion for singing in musical theater and with various local bands. She even went on to be a Show Director for several productions in the Dallas area. In 2011, Bridgette was asked to go on tour, opening up for bands like Trapt, Saliva, and Shinedown, but ultimately turned it down to be a mom.

She now sings for local bands here and there, but has found so much joy in instructing at School of Rock Plano! She finds it so rewarding and exciting to teach our future rockstars.

Born and raised in Texas, Robb has been making music his whole life. He got his first guitar at the age of 9 and hasn’t put it down since. Robb has been playing in bands around Dallas while writing music that includes a wide range of genres such as jazz, rock, and classical. He joined School of Rock in 2022 as an instructor and show director and has since moved up to School of Rock Plano's Music Director!

Robb’s favorite bands include Mr. Bungle, Gorguts, and Black Sabbath. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, gaming, and language learning.
