Shuman Roy Owner, General Manager
Shuman is the Owner and General Manager at School of Rock Orangeburg. Shuman grew up in Rockland County and spent his high school and college years playing in local and regional heavy metal, punk, alternative and classic rock acts Sinister, Tripping Monsters and Common Ground. Shuman is classically trained and influenced by everyone that has ever touched a guitar, including Randy Rhoads, Tony Iommi, Django Rheinhardt, George Benson, Andres Segovia, John Williams and Stevie Ray Vaughn. In the late 90s and early 2000s, Shuman took a break from rock music to earn an MBA from NYU, travel to far and away places and work in the NYC finance industry.
In 2012, after finding an advertisement in "Entrepreneur Magazine" for School of Rock, Shuman thought it was time for him to get back to music. The rest is history. Shuman now occasionally teaches guitar, beginner drums and beginner vocals at School of Rock Orangeburg. Shuman also runs the quickly growing Adult Band for the Orangeburg location, where adult musicians from pure beginner to advanced players come together to work on music in a healthy, positive atmosphere and put on great shows around Rockland County. Creatively, Shuman plays local acoustic shows throughout Rockland and Bergen and collaborates with local songwriters, producers and bands to provide live and studio guitar work to keep his chops up. He is currently working on material for his own alt-country project.
Michelle Gorman is the Director of Music Operations at School of Rock Orangeburg. In her capacity as Ops Director, Michelle helps School of Rock book great venues for our kids to play at like the Whiskey Kitchen, The Place and Defiant Brewing. She also ensures that things are running smoothly on a day-to-day basis and that our live shows just keep getting better and better.
As a graduate of School of Rock, Michelle is a great example of the kind of musicianship the program breeds. In addition to being the school's primary bass guitar teacher, she also teaches guitar lessons, vocal lessons, piano lessons and directs the House Band. Michelle has been lucky enough to play at venues like Highline Ballroom, The Knitting Factory, CMJ and The Meadowlands Fair.
