In 7th grade I received Weezer's Blue Album and an acoustic guitar for Christmas and I've been consumed with playing music ever since. I played in my HS worship team at Oklahoma Bible Academy in Enid and I also had a band in HS called Saline where we had several opportunities to play around the Oklahoma area until we all graduated. In college I played guitar with the student-run worship band on Tuesday nights called Overflow. I also was in a band called Bristow where I was introduced into the world of recording and honing in great live performances. After college I moved to Houston to play music professionally for 6 years where I was exposed to all genres of music performance: country, worship, rock, rap, world music, etc. I loved the musician life but ultimately I wanted to move back to Oklahoma to be closer to family. In the beginning of 2016 my friend and business partner, Brandon Birdwell, approached me with the opportunity to get involved with School of Rock and I was on board from the start. I love the concept of what we do at School of Rock and most of all I love watching the students transform into confident seasoned performers.

Music = Life. Even though this is an over-used musician’s cliché, there is no better way to describe Mike Vaughan. Every minute of the day, Mike is working on something music related. Music Director at School of Rock OKC by day, record producer and a recording engineer for local artists and musicians in his personal studio, “PsyNapze Audio Production & Design Lab”, by night. His education began at Berklee College of Music where he studied Jazz Harmony and Electronic Music Production & Design. Mike finished his Bachelor’s degree in 2018 studying Contemporary Music Production at [email protected] At School Of Rock, Mike strives to challenge his students everyday by blending jazz harmony concepts into a digestible “rock” approach. This allows his students to not only read and write their own charts and sheet music but also teaches them to critically analyze the music that they play and listen to while being able to effectively communicate their ideas intelligently to their peers. Mike is also active in the local music scene as the bass player for the local instrumental progressive-rock band, “Magic Munchbox”. Mike brings energy and passion to our team, making his love for music contagious.

Testimonials

  • “School of Rock is the best thing we have done for our three children. They learn selfconfidence, teamwork, and musicianship in an environment that is safe and free of the typical agebarrier restrictions that are often inherent in other student activities. The youngest and oldest kids in the school work together and everyone is an equal on stage. I wish other youth activities were as welcoming.”
    - Tony C., parent, Great Valley, PA
  • “"I can't tell you what an enriching experience this has been for our whole family and especially for Josh. The instructors there were so much more than teachers for Josh, they were his idols and his role models. It has been an amazing time, and I know that as Josh gets older he will look back on all the memories he made at the SOR fondly. You have created something special there, and I hope you understand what an impact your efforts have had on the lives of these children.Thank you for everything!"”
    - Tim Gallagher, Father of School of Rock Denver student

My son would live at School of Rock if he could. We've already recommended the program to several friends.”
