Alyssa DiMaio is a Rhode Island native and graduate of Berklee College of Music as a Vocal Principal with a degree in Music therapy and Psychology. Her experience working with children and teaching music to all ages has helped shape her love for School of Rock North Providence.
Her musical journey began as a young girl singing in choirs and in musical theatre at school but her love and passion for music was truly discovered when she was 13 years old and began playing the piano and singing pop. Over the years she has had the opportunity to play and sing in several different bands and projects, ranging from a Bob Marley cover band to a progressive metal band. She has had the opportunity to play with the likes of Victor Wooten, Bobby McFerrin, Tia Fuller, Terri Lyn Carrington and Danilo Parez.
Zach Stewart Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher, Piano Teacher, Drum Teacher
Zach's first memory of hearing music was Bob Marley's "Natty Dread." He was just a child but he can clearly remember feeling the thumping bass lines, gritty percussion and bluesy horns. It was a soulful introduction to the world of instruments. The first time he made music was when his best friend got a guitar. Zach's first time playing a 'real show' was at Club Babyhead when he was 15 with a hardcore group called Redline. He opened up for all his favorite bands and music gave him a huge circle friends. Later in life he packed up, headed west and landed on Venice Beach, then formed an electro-rock project and played The Roxy and The Whisky a Go Go. His band got some label interest.
Eventually his Venice Beach bohemian paradise got taken over by the tech industry and he headed south for New Orleans. Living in a city where music is played throughout the streets 24 hours a day truly gave him an appreciation for the way acoustic instruments can cry, sing and unite people. Music has taken him all over the country and he can't imagine a life without this creative outlet. He is excited to write his next chapter right here at School of Rock North Providence. Zach teaches piano, drums, guitar and bass guitar.
Sam Mayer Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher, Songwriting Teacher
Sam Mayer is a musician, songwriter, and audio engineer. He was kicked out of piano lessons at age 8 for not sitting still, but quickly found his home behind the drums. When a middle school bandmate showed him the chords for The Beatles’ “Yellow Submarine,” Sam realized that music was the coolest thing! He started Youtube lessons, joined the jazz band, the pit band, and soon ventured out to open mics in the Boston and Sommerville area, where he first caught a glimpse of the magic that is a supportive and inspiring music scene.
Sam has since shared the stage with artists like Vusi Mahlasela, Carl Restivo, Kristen Ford, Horse Jumper of Love, Slaughter Beach, Dog, and Ushamami. Most recently, Sam worked as a session musician and assistant engineer at Headroom Studios in Philadelphia PA, where he apprenticed under Mark Watter. Sam earned his B.A. from Brown University in 2018 and currently studies privately with Lauren Passarelli.
Sam’s lessons are grounded in technique and musicianship but equally focused on inspiring students to explore their own creativity while developing a musical practice that they can bring with them throughout their lives.
