School of Rock North Miami serves North Miami, Hollywood, Miami, Aventura, Miama Shores, Miama Beach, Wynwood, Midtown, North Bay Village, Normandy Isles, Surfside, Sunny Isles, Bal Harbor, and surrounding communities with music lessons taught by practicing, passionate musicians. Students at School of Rock North Miami can learn everything from guitar to drums, vocals, bass, keys, and even violin, so they can rock out to area-popular styles like electronic, Cumbia, Salsa, Bachata, Reggaetón, trap, hip hop, Caribbean, and more. It's no secret that Miami has produced great musical talent over the years -- including the likes of Phil Collins, Lenny Kravitz, and Yngwie Malmsteen. Students here can even play at great local venues like the North Beach Bandshell and Gramps in Wynwood.

At School of Rock North Miami, our students can take online, one-on-one music instruction from the comfort of their homes. We call this program School of Rock Remote. This online music program contains weekly one-on-one instruction conducted by our expert School of Rock instructors in a safe virtual lesson room.
 
Students will receive their training using our proprietary education program, The School of Rock Method™, which couples live video lessons with our proprietary Method App™, SongFirst Approach™ and Method Books™.

Little Wing music program for toddlers and preschoolers in North Miami

Ages 3-5

At School of Rock North Miami our Little Wing music program for preschoolers and toddlers teaches students foundational music skills by playing games and participating in other interactive musical activities. Little Wing students have one weekly group music lesson in which they use classic rock songs to learn about rhythm, song structure, melody and dynamics through play.

The Path to Take the Stage

The Little Wing music program is the first step in a young musician's journey. At School of Rock North Miami, toddlers and preschoolers who show an interest in music should start with Little Wing. As they get older, they will progress into the Rookies program, followed by Rock 101 and the Performance Program.

Ages 6-7

At School of Rock North Miami, our music program for children with no previous musical experience (typically ages 6 to 7-years-old) is called Rookies. Rookies students have one weekly group music lesson where they learn fundamentals like chords, rhythm and song structure. Kids get to learn and experiment with multiple instruments so they can later decide which one they ultimately want to continue pursuing in Rock 101.

The Path to Take the Stage

All of our music programs are designed to inspire students to learn and develop a strong musical proficiency. At School of Rock North Miami, younger students who are not ready for a more comprehensive program like Rock 101 can start in Rookies. Additionally, students who have completed the Little Wing program will progress into the Rookies music program. No prior musical experience is needed for Rookies. Once your child is ready for private music lessons (typically older than first or second graders), they will graduate into our Rock 101 program.

Ages 8-13

Rock 101 is one of School of Rock North Miami's top programs for kids and beginners. Students have one weekly group rehearsal where they learn to play classic rock songs that have been simplified for beginner musicians. Additionally, Rock 101 students in North Miami have a weekly private music lesson with an instructor who helps them learn the concepts and skills behind their performance songs.

The Path to Take the Stage

Our music programs for kids in North Miami are designed to get students on stage performing, with the goal of building strong musical proficiency. Younger students at School of Rock North Miami who have participated in the Rookies program can move to our Rock 101 music program once they’re ready. Additionally, students (typically ages 8 to 13-years-old) can begin Rock 101 without any prior experience. The goal of this rock program is to quickly develop a basic competence on students’ chosen instruments before moving on to our famous Performance Program.

The Performance Program at School of Rock North Miami is our hallmark music program, where tens of thousands of students enroll each year. It consists of a weekly group rehearsal where kids and teens learn by playing rock music's most iconic songs with a band composed of their peers. Students are assigned songs and parts that are tailored to them based on their age, experience and ability to learn new skills and concepts. Students then work through their parts in weekly private music lessons, refining the skills and concepts that those songs introduce. The goal of this curriculum is to prepare kids and teens for live performances. Every few months, School of Rock North Miami Performance Program students take the stage and play at local North Miami music venues in front of a live audience.

The Path to Take the Stage

School of Rock North Miami's music programs for kids and teens are designed to inspire by getting students on stage and performing. All of our other music education programs focus on readying students for our famous Performance Program. This is where students develop incredible musical skills. Performance Program students have often gone through our Rock 101 program first or have some previous basic music experience. These young musicians will have custom development plans outlined by their instructors with key concepts reinforced during private lessons and group rehearsals, all with the goal of performing live at a North Miami music venue.

Songwriting
Age 12 and over

Our Songwriting program for kids and teens teaches the fundamentals of songwriting, arrangement and music theory, and helps students compose original works.  At School of Rock North Miami, songwriting students receive one weekly private lesson where they learn concepts, technique and theory on an instrument of their choice. These principles are then applied in a weekly group lesson where students work together on songwriting exercises and lyrical workshops.  Every few months, Songwriting students take the stage to perform or band together to record their original songs.

The Path to Take the Stage

Our Songwriting program for kids and teens in North Miami is designed to create musical proficiency through the creation of original music. Students at School of Rock North Miami who have completed our Rock 101 program can move to our Songwriting program once they’re ready. Additionally, new students who have prior experience with and basic knowledge of an instrument can also begin Songwriting. The program culminates with a live showcase where students perform their original compositions in bands at a local music venue. Students taking the Songwriting Program online will remotely record their original songs to produce a demo of the class's music.

School of Rock North Miami's Adult Program is for students over 18 years old who are looking to either improve their musical proficiency or pick up an instrument with no prior musical experience. As with most School of Rock music programs, the Adult Program uses a performance-based music education approach. This means the curriculum focuses on learning music concepts and applying them in a live performance setting. Our Adult Music Program includes one weekly private music lesson and a weekly group rehearsal. Every student at School of Rock North Miami is placed in a band of fellow adults and then assigned specific songs as a way of learning key music concepts and skills. Adult students then take the stage to play at a live show in North Miami.

All of our music programs are designed to inspire by getting students on stage and performing, with the goal of building strong musical proficiency along the way. The School of Rock North Miami Adult Program is open to all experience levels and each student will follow a customized learning plan developed by their instructor. Adult students will work together during rehearsal to prepare for a live performance at a real rock venue in North Miami.

Age 17 and Under

The School of Rock AllStars Tour takes the very best students from around the world and sends them on a nationwide summer tour across the United States. Less than 1% of School of Rock students are selected each year to represent School of Rock as an AllStar. All Performance Program students are eligible to audition for this prestigious program. The intensive audition process starts off with video submissions followed by live auditions. Once selected, AllStar students will have an authentic touring experience including traveling on a tour bus, doing tour publicity and starring in nightly performances at famous venues and festivals during a two-week tour.

Becoming an AllStar is the highest level of achievement for a School of Rock student. They play on legendary stages large and small, including The Knitting Factory, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, The Troubadour and Lollapalooza. AllStar students often go on to have accomplished careers in the music industry. Former AllStars have gone on to become touring artists, star in Broadway musicals, get signed to record deals, become finalists on talent competitions like "The Voice" and "American Idol" and have other notable roles in the music industry.

All of School of Rock North Miami’s music teachers are experienced musicians devoted to helping students attain musical proficiency. Our instructors guide students one-on-one to personalize learning, inspire confidence and build social skills.

Marcel Salas Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher, Drum Teacher

Marcel Salas has been a professional musician since age 18, proficient in keyboard, guitar, bass, drums and vocals. He has played with major label acts such as Pitbull and Shakira. He has played in underground metal bands from south Florida such as Cyst, Solstice and Faethom, and has played in local south Florida groove bands Suenalo, Xperimento, Big Brooklyn Red, Juke, Lanzallamas, Chantil Dukart and the Dukes of Art, and House Savage. He was involved for several years in the Miami Dade College Jazz Performance Group. He performed at the Umbria Jazz Festival in Perugia, Italy, and played three USO Tours in Guantanamo Bay, Bahrain and Djibouti. He has played in a multitude of festivals throughout Florida and the United States such as Spirit of the Suwanee, Orange Blossoms Jamboree, Grassroots Music Festival NY and Grassroots Music Festival North Carolina. He has taught privately for over 15 years and ran several show bands at School of Rock South Miami from 2013-2016.

Lourdes "Sofi" Romero Singing Teacher, Piano Teacher

Lourdes “Sofi” Romero was born on July 27, 1978 in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Romero is a Grammy-nominated vocal performer/songwriter and a dedicated music educator who currently lives in Miami, Florida. Romero goes by the stage name of Sofy Encanto and is the creative voice and co-founding member of recording artist Elastic Bond. Her group is signed to Nacional Records. Sofy performs and teaches vocal and piano performance around the world, delivering musical performances as well as educational workshops and classes at places like festivals, educational facilities and charities such as the County Public Schools program Roots in the Schools, Planeta Feliz, Kids in Distress and Miami Science Museum's Big Bang program. Her work has been recognized by "The LA Times," "The Miami Herald," "The Miami New Times," "The Japan Yomiuri Shimbun," "Latina Magazine" and "Billboard Magazine." Her work has also been broadcasted by NPR, The BBC, PBS, ESPN, CNN, Discovery Channel, Nickelodeon, MTV, Concert Channel, The CW Network and ABC. Romero’s passion is sharing the benefits of music with the community.

Edward "Teddy" Sullivan Guitar Teacher

Edward “Teddy” Sullivan knew he wanted to play music and inspire others to play ever since he heard "Master of Puppets" by Metallica. Edward has been teaching private lessons for the past eight years and playing in local and garage bands for the past 15 years. He graduated from Miami Dade College in Music/Music Business and completed his bachelor’s degree at FIU. Teddy is part of the Barely Tuesday Band and plays with Trish and Ryan Swanson, along with Michael Stefanik and Phil Green. Ed loves the mission statement of School of Rock. When he was younger he wanted to have other people to play with and not just take private music lessons, so he finds the performance aspect of School of Rock to be the perfect vehicle for helping students reach their musical goals faster.

Sabina Arakcheyeva Little Wing Teacher, Receptionist

Sabina Arakcheyeva has been a private teacher for preschool and elementary school children, focusing in early child education through music and art, since 1998. Sabina has a BA degree in International Journalism and Communications. She is married and has two homeschooled children of her own. Sabina leads a book club for kids at a local church and organizes educational field trips.

Mike Montero Guitar Teacher, Bass Guitar Teacher, Drum Teacher

Mike Montero is a well-rounded music instructor who has worked independently and at Miami area schools since the late 90s. As an independent instructor, Mike employs a natural drive for teaching the art and theory of music as applied to guitar and bass, as well as applying it in his own performance repertoire as a musician. Mike’s educational background in music includes the art of performance, as well as the business and creative production side of music-making. Most of Mike’s formal education took place at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts in Jacksonville, Florida, at San Diego Mesa College and at Miami Dade College. In high school Mike learned to play jazz, orchestral music, piano, guitar, electric and upright bass, and it was there that he was introduced to modern recording techniques, which spurred his interest in sound recording and live audio engineering. Mike has been teaching private lessons in the Miami area for over a decade and has also served (and continues to serve) as a mentor to former students in both music and the arts. He is also an experienced live audio engineer at local venues when he’s not performing. He consults with the bands of his students and helps them find gigs and performance opportunities in the Miami area. He has performed with and formed various local bands including Oso, Sinema, Macrocosm Research, Symbiotic Simians, Westchester Sauce, Eclipser and Subrosa to name a few. Mike has also independently produced and released an album of original music with his band Oso titled “You Know." Over the last few decades Mike has developed a unique musical style, which he applies to all his side projects, and aims to include the work of numerous other artists in an effort to create a symbiotic relationship between all art forms.

Sam Savage Piano Teacher

Sam Savage has been performing music professionally since 1998. Sam attended Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA, where he studied Jazz Performance. While in Richmond, Sam performed regularly with bands like Oregon Hill Funk All Stars and NoBS Brass Band, and he also led many jazz and funk bands under his own name. In 2010 Sam moved to Miami to continue his jazz studies at Florida International University. Since moving to Miami, Sam has performed regularly with Grammy-nominated Locos Por Juana, Suenalo, Elastic Bond, Xperimento, jazz band The French Horn and many jazz artists. Sam has his own original project called House Savage, which is in the process of recording their first album. Sam has taught trombone and piano in Miami at Palmetto High School, School of Rock South Miami and to private students. Sam also has two albums under his own name.
Singing Teacher, Violin Teacher Natalie

Natalie "Nay" Richard Singing Teacher, Violin Teacher

Natalie Richard (aka Nay Rozé) is a 25-year-old violinist and vocalist from Winter Haven, FL. She began studying classical violin at the age of 10 through scholastic courses and private instruction. During this time, she also attended prestigious music camps, clinics and programs throughout the state. While her main focus of study began as primarily classical, she is extremely passionate about teaching, creating and inspiring. After many years of working in symphonies, ensembles and theater pit orchestra, her main focus in music includes songwriting for various projects, collaborating musically with local artists and performing for various Miami based events with her band Tamboka. She believes that the arts have the power to change the world, and just wants to help others to find their voice through music.

Lai-Si Lasalle Singing Teacher, Piano Teacher

Lai-Si Lassalle is a singer, songwriter, actor, artist, designer, content creator and production assistant. This jack of all trades is originally from Miami. Her unique mixture of cultures has shaped her as a performer and professional. Always on the move, Lai-Si has toured Europe, Colombia, Cuba and both coasts of the U.S. She also trained at AMDA in NYC and lived and worked in LA and London for three years each. Each destination has provided a new set of skills and experiences that have expanded her knowledge in the film, theatre, music and tech industries. She is currently recording a new album with her jazz/funk band Soul Recital in Miami. She recently performed in the play "Gloria" as one of the leads at Gables Stage. Her goal is human connection at a soul level through music and art.
Singing Teacher Nicole Jonjak

Nicole Jonjak Singing Teacher

Niki has been singing and performing publicly since the age of 5! Formally trained as an opera singer during her college years and dabbling in all kinds of live cover bands on the side, Niki is known for her incredible versatility and power house vocals. She has performed for celebrities and at multi-million dollar corporate engagements as a lead singer in some of South Florida's top corporate cover bands. She does it ALL: Rock-n-Roll, R&B, pop, soul, funk, and has even been known to rap on occasion!

In addition to cover music, Niki is also a songwriter and recording artist who creates "Soca Fusion" music. Soca is the high energy dance music of the Caribbean Carnival culture birthed from the twin islands of Trinidad and Tobago. She is the only All America Caucasian Female in history to ever tackle the genre! She continues to amaze audiences everywhere as she promotes and performs her music in Trinidad and Tobago and the USA throughout the year under the stage name "YOUNI-T" (pronounced UNITY)- The American Soca Queen.

Brian is a Miami based freelance musician. He studied Jazz Performance at the University of Miami. Brian has been playing professionally since 2008. He has played with bands and artists such as Oigo, Raquel Sofia, Bobby Lee Rogen Trio, Alejandro Elizondo, Suenalo, and Art Official among others.

Sebastian Fernandez is a music professional with more than ten years of experience in the music industry. At the age of 5 years old Sebastian picked up his first guitar and never looked back since then. In 2010 Sebastian began his studies in Boston at the prestigious music school Berklee College of Music where he majored in Songwriting/Production and Guitar completing four years of study. During Berklee he was recognized as one of the best rock guitarists in the college and lead the Rock Guitar Night at Berklee showcasing the best of the school. In 2014 Sebastian was named third best blues player at the worldwide competition of renowned guitarist Lee Ritenour. One of the highlights of Sebastian’s Berklee years was his graduation where he was selected to perform Led Zeppelin songs at the Commencement Ceremony with Led Zeppelin’s guitarist Jimmy Page being on the audience and awarded with the Honorary Doctorate. in fact it was Sebastian that connected Mr. Page to Berklee due to a personal connection. After graduating from college in 2014, the touring years began. Being frontman of the rock band Stone Giant opened doors for great experiences such as performing at major festivals as Lollapalooza along artists like Eminem, Tame Impala, Noel Gallagher, Gorillaz, and so on. The band got major exposure and has been featured on major press as Rolling Stone and Billboard.

Besides being a musician and artist, Sebastian is also a music business executive and spent years producing major concerts and artists such as Seu Jorge and Julieta Venegas at venues like Boston Symphony Hall, Berklee Performance Center, Broward Center for the Performing Arts, among others. Along with Berklee, honorary doctorates and master awards were given to all artists during productions. In 2018 Sebastian made his move from New York City in Miami where he founded a music production company called LoSweet Records. The company works at its own studio in Aventura and specializes in producing and writing for artists and labels of all levels.

During all these years of experience in the music industry, Sebastian has shared his knowledge and has years teaching private music and guitar lessons. All styles and levels are welcome but with a specialization in rock, blues, and pop. Lessons can range from guitar, bass, drums, vocals, songwriting, performance preparation, Berklee preparation, production, music business, and so on.

Dylan McCue Bass Guitar Teacher, Guitar Teacher

Dylan McCue is a guitarist and songwriter from Miami Beach. He started playing guitar at the age of 11, focusing primarily on emulating the blues and classic rock styles of heroes such has Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, and David Gilmour. In middle school, Dylan played cello in the school’s orchestra and developed a deep admiration for classical music and composition. He was also in the Miami Beach Senior High Jazz Band, which inspired him to expand his musical vocabulary and incorporate more jazz/fusion into his playing He has been a member of three bands, each of which were quite different stylistically. In high school, he was in Tabula Rasa, a progressive rock that released two full-length albums; and Spacekamel, a psychedelic funk band that played all over Miami. He is currently in an indie rock band called The Hails, which he helped form during his freshman year at the University of Florida. He has written and co-produced many of the band’s music, including one single that has garnered over 1.8 million streams on Spotify. After graduating from UF in the Spring of 2019, Dylan has decided to commit himself to music and is grateful for the opportunity to share his passion and experience with others!

Andres Felipe Roa Is a Professional Musician, Recording Artist and Drum Set Educator. Andres is from Ibague, Tolima which is commonly known as the Musical City of Colombia. He studied music theory at Tolima Conservatory of Music and then in Bogota as a major in Music Performance and Drum Set at Javeriana University. In 2001, Andres moved to South Florida where he studied under a scholarship at Miami Dade College and was a featured musician in the Jazz Ensembles and African Percussion Ensembles.

Andres has vast experience as a performer. He currently manages his successful full-time working band, "The Silent Shout". Additionally, he has been a freelance drum set player for 20 years in South Florida working with a wide variety of independent and signed artists.

Cristian Hernandez has been playing music since he was 13 years old. He studied music at the prestigious New World School of the Arts High School and then received his Bachelor of Music from the esteemed Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. Cristian is an active contemporary, jazz, and classical bassist in the greater Miami area. He has played with the Area Stage Company, the Miami Lyric Opera, Princess Cruise Lines and has taught with the Miami Music Project. Cristian believes anyone can become a musician whether it's a profession or hobby.
Singing Teacher Kelsey Merrit

Kelsey Merrit Singing Teacher

Kelsey Merritt is a music industry veteran, singer, songwriter, and music business manager. She jump-started her music career at 16 years old, as an artist for Radio Disney. Kelsey has shared the stage with a number of notable artists such as Brett Michaels of Poison, The Jonas Brothers, Vanilla Ice, and Katy Perry. She has written songs with members of *NSYNC, had a single chart at Top 40 radio, signed a record deal with Warner Music Group, spent five consecutive years on the popular Summer tour, the Vans Warped Tour and attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA.

Kelsey’s music projects and works have been featured in The New York Times, Alternative Press Magazine, The Sun-Sentinel, Substream Magazine, MTV, and MTV2.

Kelsey now shares the stage with her husband, Andres, in their cover band, The Silent Shout. They most recently spent five months on a cruise ship performing as the house band. When they aren't traveling, they perform at various venues in South Florida.
