School of Rock Huntington Beach serves the area of Huntington Beach with quality music lessons taught by real, practicing musicians. Although it teaches everything from piano to bass, vocals and more, guitar and drums are especially popular. Here, students are taught an array of different styles, but pop, R&B, and funk are genres its students are particularly excited about. Huntington Beach is considered Surf City USA, with a history of surf music dating back to the 1960s, but is also famous for bands like No Doubt, The Offspring, and more.

Ages 8-10

Rock 101 is one of School of Rock Huntington Beach's top programs for kids and beginners. Students have one weekly group rehearsal where they learn to play classic rock songs that have been simplified for beginner musicians. Additionally, Rock 101 students in Huntington Beach have a weekly private music lesson with an instructor who helps them learn the concepts and skills behind their performance songs.

The Path to Take the Stage

Our music programs for kids in Huntington Beach are designed to get students on stage performing, with the goal of building strong musical proficiency. Younger students at School of Rock Huntington Beach who have participated in the Rookies program can move to our Rock 101 music program once they’re ready. Additionally, students (typically ages 8 to 13-years-old) can begin Rock 101 without any prior experience. The goal of this rock program is to quickly develop a basic competence on students’ chosen instruments before moving on to our famous Performance Program.

The Performance Program at School of Rock Huntington Beach is our hallmark music program, where tens of thousands of students enroll each year. It consists of a weekly group rehearsal where kids and teens learn by playing rock music's most iconic songs with a band composed of their peers. Students are assigned songs and parts that are tailored to them based on their age, experience and ability to learn new skills and concepts. Students then work through their parts in weekly private music lessons, refining the skills and concepts that those songs introduce. The goal of this curriculum is to prepare kids and teens for live performances. Every few months, School of Rock Huntington Beach Performance Program students take the stage and play at local Huntington Beach music venues in front of a live audience.

The Path to Take the Stage

School of Rock Huntington Beach's music programs for kids and teens are designed to inspire by getting students on stage and performing. All of our other music education programs focus on readying students for our famous Performance Program. This is where students develop incredible musical skills. Performance Program students have often gone through our Rock 101 program first or have some previous basic music experience. These young musicians will have custom development plans outlined by their instructors with key concepts reinforced during private lessons and group rehearsals, all with the goal of performing live at a Huntington Beach music venue.

At School of Rock Huntington Beach, our students can take online, one-on-one music instruction from the comfort of their homes. We call this program School of Rock Remote. This online music program contains weekly one-on-one instruction conducted by our expert School of Rock instructors in a safe virtual lesson room.
 
Students will receive their training using our proprietary education program, The School of Rock Method™, which couples live video lessons with our proprietary Method App™, SongFirst Approach™ and Method Books™.

School of Rock Huntington Beach's Adult Program is for students over 18 years old who are looking to either improve their musical proficiency or pick up an instrument with no prior musical experience. As with most School of Rock music programs, the Adult Program uses a performance-based music education approach. This means the curriculum focuses on learning music concepts and applying them in a live performance setting. Our Adult Music Program includes one weekly private music lesson and a weekly group rehearsal. Every student at School of Rock Huntington Beach is placed in a band of fellow adults and then assigned specific songs as a way of learning key music concepts and skills. Adult students then take the stage to play at a live show in Huntington Beach.

All of our music programs are designed to inspire by getting students on stage and performing, with the goal of building strong musical proficiency along the way. The School of Rock Huntington Beach Adult Program is open to all experience levels and each student will follow a customized learning plan developed by their instructor. Adult students will work together during rehearsal to prepare for a live performance at a real rock venue in Huntington Beach.

The School of Rock Huntington Beach House Band music program gives students under 18 the opportunity to join a gigging band composed of fellow musicians from their school. These students perform additional live shows throughout the year. All students in the Performance Program have the opportunity to audition for a spot in School of Rock Huntington Beach's House Band. Once selected, House Band members become leaders in their School of Rock community and perform live shows at CA rock venues throughout the year.

The Path to Take the Stage

Performance is the core of School of Rock's educational approach. Therefore, we create additional opportunities for students to perform on stages throughout Huntington Beach and the rest of CA. The House Band music program allows each school's most talented students the opportunity to join a band and play routinely in front of live audiences. Once a member, students will gain real music experience associated with gigging musicians and will become leaders and mentors inside the School of Rock community.

Age 17 and Under

The School of Rock AllStars Tour takes the very best students from around the world and sends them on a nationwide summer tour across the United States. Less than 1% of School of Rock students are selected each year to represent School of Rock as an AllStar. All Performance Program students are eligible to audition for this prestigious program. The intensive audition process starts off with video submissions followed by live auditions. Once selected, AllStar students will have an authentic touring experience including traveling on a tour bus, doing tour publicity and starring in nightly performances at famous venues and festivals during a two-week tour.

Becoming an AllStar is the highest level of achievement for a School of Rock student. They play on legendary stages large and small, including The Knitting Factory, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, The Troubadour and Lollapalooza. AllStar students often go on to have accomplished careers in the music industry. Former AllStars have gone on to become touring artists, star in Broadway musicals, get signed to record deals, become finalists on talent competitions like "The Voice" and "American Idol" and have other notable roles in the music industry.

Jeff Nunes
Owner
Jeff "Noonzy" Nunes has been a professional musician for almost 35 years, and has been playing guitar since he was six. Starting his professional career at the age of 14 as a solo guitarist in numerous venues around the Bay Area, and continuing through his college years, Jeff went on to become a co-founding member and frontman for the Bay Area rock band Interstate. In 2005, having met Larry Boodman backstage at a show in San Francisco a year earlier, he was asked to join and become the lead guitarist for the L.A.-based, award-winning, indie-rock band Fourwayfree. In his career as a professional musician Jeff has served as a teacher, producer, touring pro and for a brief time a music store owner. Jeff holds degrees from the University of California Davis and Arizona State University College of Law. When he's not spending time with his lovely wife Sarah and their kids Jacob and Emma, he's either playing guitar, playing in an acoustic duo with his son Jake or practicing law. Jeff is extremely excited to be using his background in music education and business, as well as his experience as a businessman and attorney to bring School of Rock to Huntington Beach.
Larry Boodman

Larry "Boody" Boodman has been a professional musician (drummer) for the past 17 years and has been playing since he was 11. As the co-founder and drummer for the L.A.-based award-winning indie-rock group Fourwayfree (where he and co-owner Jeff Nunes first met) between 2001 to the present and an OCSA Alumni (Musical Theatre), Larry has developed a strong background and passion for stage, theatre, performance and of course music! As a graduate from CSU, Fullerton's film/TV program, Larry also spent a number of years in the film industry working as a location scout/manager and camera assistant. As a hobby (and a way to support his artistic and creative endeavors), Larry has tinkered in the real estate and hospitality industries. He is thrilled to be combining his professional experience and passions to launch School of Rock Huntington Beach. Larry and his wife, Sandra, have two boys, who will soon be students at School of Rock!

Joey Ancona is a passionate, working musician with over 25 years of experience in live performances, touring, sound design, and recording. Joining his first band in high school led to the craft of creating music and playing live that continues to this day. Currently frontman for two working acts, Joey enjoys rocking out weekly all over Orange County.

A professional theatre arts teacher for over 20 years—most notably at the Orange County School of the Arts as Director of the Production and Design Department—produced the opportunity to work with such professionals as Francis Ford Coppola, Cathy Rigby, and Broadway stars Susan Egan, Lindsay Mendez, Krysta Rodriguez, and Matthew Morrison. Joey currently serves as an enthusiastic, resourceful, motivating teacher and leader with expertise in nurturing the development of an artist congruent with challenging the student and staff to excel, thrive, and succeed. He has also been the proprietor, manager, and head of operations for Graziano's and Sal and Sons Italian restaurants for over five years.

Joey Vargas is the primary bass teacher at School of Rock Huntington Beach. Born and raised in Westminster, CA, Joey found punk rock at an early age and picked up a bass to emulate his new heroes, MXPX and The Ramones. After years of playing throughout Orange County in many punk bands and leading worship for youth groups and college groups, Joey was called back by the old Motown vibe through Pino Palladino, Michael League, Sharay Reed, and the funk of James Jamerson and Bootsy Collins. Joey now plays in various funk, R&B, and soul cover bands throughout Orange County and teaches all these styles to bass students at School of Rock Huntington Beach.

Zachary Dickson

Zachary Dickson is a guitar, bass, drum, and vocal instructor at School of Rock Huntington Beach. He is also a show director for varsity, junior, and Rock 101 groups.

Zachary comes from a punk rock and '90s hip-hop upbringing and has played in bands since 2017. He brings a wide variety of genres and styles to his work such as jazz, funk, metal, indie, and country music. Zachary is a performance group show director and teaches one-on-one lessons with students from ages 6 to 60.
Pat Leon

Pat Leon is a drum teacher at School of Rock Huntington Beach. Starting the drums at age five and playing in bands by age 10, Pat studied his craft with such world-renowned drummers as Chuck Wackerman, Chuck Flores and Allen Carter. He has worked, recorded, toured or just shared a stage with such artists as Greg Walker (Santana), Roger Daltrey (The Who), Reggie Boyd Jr. (The Staple Singers, Dolly Parton, Bob Marley), Kentucky Mark Meadows (Meredith Brooks, John Waite, Dweezil Zappa) and producer Scott Mathews (Keith Richards, Mick Jagger, Sammy Hager). Pat is currently a top call show and recording drummer for Disney Worldwide and the drummer for Zeppelin USA: An American Tribute to Led Zeppelin. He shares his artistry and experience with drum students at School of Rock Huntington Beach.

Originally a jazz drummer, Rob started playing professionally in high school then performed with the jazz ensembles at El Camino College and UCLA. He continued drumming in the studio and with local rock bands before starting his business career in corporate communications.

His drumming influences include jazz legends Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich, Danny Seraphine (Chicago), Keith Moon (The Who), Carl Palmer (Emerson, Lake & Palmer), and Neil Peart (Rush).

Originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, Corran turned his passion for music which started at the age of 11, into a his career as an award winning drummer/percussionist/recording artist and teacher. His versatility in the styles of rock, R&B, funk and Latin led to international performance, touring, and teaching opportunities in Russia and Finland before bringing his 18 years of teaching experience to the School of Rock Huntington Beach. His love for music has carried over to teaching, and the host for a podcast & youtube channel call powerNpounders. He enjoys teaching inspiring drummers in developing their chosen instrument.
Singing Teacher Jillian Navarro

Vocal Teacher
Jillian Navarro is a singing teacher at School of Rock Huntington Beach, as well as a School of Rock Huntington Beach alumnus, participating as one of the inaugural students in both the House Band and the Performance Group. She has over a decade of vocal training and experience in the arts ranging from performance to film production and everything in between; she attended high school at the Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA) and has a BFA in film & digital content with a minor in entrepreneurship. She has extensive training in “Speech Level Singing” and has even worked with Seth Riggs, the pioneer of this technique, who himself has trained artists from Stevie Wonder, Madonna, Barbara Streisand, Nina Simone, Ozzy Osborne, Ray Charles and more. Jillian has performed in numerous bands across Orange County and has performed at the Staples Center with Keith Urban.

Jillian strives to help her students advance their musical knowledge, find confidence on stage, develop strong vocal technique, and find their voice (both literally and metaphorically) all while having fun. Jillian’s brings her extensive experience as a vocalist, musician and performer, as well as years of teaching experience with children of all ages and needs to School of Rock Huntington Beach.

Brice Snyder is a guitar and bass instructor at School of Rock Huntington Beach. He attended Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA) for high school, has played in multiple bands since the age of 16, and embarked on several nationwide tours. His relentless drive and work ethic have allowed him to share the stage with the likes of Sepultura, Sacred Reich, Crowbar, Black Flag, Skid Row, and Quiet Riot, just to name a few. When Brice isn’t teaching at School of Rock, he writes, records, and tours with melodic metal titans Art of Shock and '80s veterans Leatherwolf as a bassist.

Roz Esposito is a native New Yorker now living in Huntington Beach. She has been teaching voice for over twenty years both on the east and west coasts. Roz majored in voice at The Mannes College of Music in NYC and studied with some of the most influential teachers in pop/rock, including Seth Riggs, known for his work with Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, and Barbara Streisand among others.

Roz is an award-winning songwriter, playwright, composer, and lyricist. Her songs have been featured on television and in Off-Broadway productions and her voice has been heard on national TV and radio commercials where she sang with the late great Luther Vandross. Currently, her original musical, Living Over the Rainbow, is optioned by a Tony Award-nominated Broadway producer and is making its way to the Big Apple. Roz loves teaching voice at School of Rock Huntington Beach and is excited to see her students step into their power as performing singers!

Based in Southern California, Christian Orozco is anything but traditional. Inspired by '90s hip-hop, and growing up to cumbias blasting the family radio, music became a big part of Christian's life.

From high school to college, Christian was in marching band and Latin jazz band, aside from starting a few bands with local musicians. Christian is known to play any style well, applying various rhythms from jazz, hip-hop, and Afro-Cuban to his drumming with authenticity.

My daughter has been attending since it opened in our area. In the last year she has learned so much and has grown so much as a musician I almost don't recognize her anymore. Kudos to the staff and the owners for all that they do!

My daughter has been drumming since she was seven. She has had extensive private instruction for 5+ years but what she really needed is what she's getting at School of Rock! She's a productive well-rounded human being thanks to them!
