Born and raised in Long Island, NY, Ryan began playing guitar at age 13 after seeing the movie "La Bamba" about rock legend Ritchie Valens. He studied with grammy-nominated guitarist Steve Briody for several years before starting his own projects and soon became an instructor himself. While still in New York, his band Code Anchor independently released several EP's and one full-length album, "Rosada", while touring extensively nationwide from 2005-2009. A co-writer in the band, Ryan also played lead and rhythm guitar while singing lead and backup vocals. Memorable stages include the Vans Warped Tour at Nassau Colliseum and headlining bills at some of New York City's greatest venues like CBGB's and The Knitting Factory. It was during this time that Ryan began teaching at the School of Rock in Melville, NY. Hungry to pursue new musical ventures, Ryan departed from Code Anchor and moved to Los Angeles in 2009. Since then, he's been busy writing, producing, and performing with his newest project, Lou Pine. Ryan "Lou" enjoys playing every genre including jazz, funk, country and folk, but credits the blues and rock roll as his main influences. email: rschiff@schoolofrock.com

Mia grew up listening to a colorful array of music from John Coltrane to Sunday blues to Britney Spears. Originally from Salem, Massachusetts, she grew up singing and playing piano, guitar, and saxophone. In college she discovered the drums and studied with Bill Carbone for four years. She and two friends formed a punk band called Baby Gap and proceeded to write 8 original songs, played a dozen shows, and recorded an EP, all in their final semester. She also began producing electronic beats under the name Fresh Heiress. After college, she took a cross-country road trip and landed in L.A. Besides making music, she likes writing, reading, watercolor painting, bike rides, and hanging with animals. Her musical influences include American jazz, classic hip hop, alt R&B, blues, funk, and psychedelic rock. She is so pumped to be the new Studio Manager for SoR Venice and can't wait to make friends with all the young rockers and their cool parents!

April was raised on black and white television,20's and 30's jazz and rock'n roll 45's which shaped both her sense of humor and style.
You'll always know when April is working the front desk as you're bound to hear the dulcet tones of a Mildred Bailey or Louis Armstrong tune lilting through the lobby!
Before realizing that television actually came in color, and that cartoons are awesome, April spent a majority of her spare time writing, singing, script doctoring, and became a champion Go Fish card shark.
In between furious Go Fish battles, she worked 8 years for a bank doing various grown up things like Loan Modifications, Short Sales, Research and Project Development and even learned how to swing dance!
Eventually she realized that her passion did not simply consist of crunching numbers and being an organizational and customer service dynamo, she wanted to feel like she was making a real difference in peoples lives so she left the banking world and 3 weeks later found what she was looking for at School of Rock.
At School of Rock since 2013 she's become a friend and confidant to our kids and parents and loves being a part of our mission to enrich the lives of both children and adults through music.

Ed has been playing guitar since he was a teenager, when he first heard Clapton, Page and Beck of the Yardbirds in Led Zep, Cream and the Jeff Beck Group. He spent his early years figuring out classic rock guitar lines from listening to LP records. About 10 years later his ex father-in-law taught him music theory and set him up with lessons with his friend, swing jazz guitarist George Allen. Ed later took BeBop jazz and classical guitar lessons with Rob Curtis when he decided he needed a more modern jazz guitar approach. Since then he has been building his repertoire, working on left and right hand technique and integrating said jazz and classical techniques into rock music to aid his guitar students. He started teaching about fifteen years ago at two local music stores. Ten years ago he started teaching guitar and directing shows at School of Rock Chicago. He now teaches at School of Rock Venice and School of Rock West LA.

Dan's musical taste is broad: he grew up on funk, jazz, and classic rock, but over the years he has developed an admiration and deep study of hip hop, progressive metal, Latin, electronic, and more. He is very excited to be a part of the School of Rock team!

Testimonios

  • “[SoR Venice} is a great place for kids to enjoy exploring the [rock] sound and enjoy playing music. My nephew loves it !!! ”
    — Dana C., Baldwin Park, CA
  • “School of Rock [Venice] has a philosophy of getting their students straight to playing by picking out simple songs to play immediately. Take this together with a group of teachers who know how to "light the fire" of enthusiasm in their charges and you have a winning strategy. My son is taking guitar and, unlike homework, he is happy to practice at home. He is enrolled in Rock 101 which includes both a private lesson and band practice every week. ”
    — Catherine H., SoR Venice mom
  • “We recently signed up my son for drum lessons and Rock 101 here - and we're loving it! The staff is incredibly knowledgable, helpful, and fun! My son can't wait to get going and play in a band soon. Great addition to our neighborhood so we don't have to travel too far for a great music experience. While this location is new, the staff here has been working with the program for years - so this place feels like a well-oiled machine in a beautiful new facility. ”
    — Amy C., SoR Venice mom
  • “School of Rock has helped develop my daughter's self confidence. She just lights up when she is on stage. I just love watching and seeing her growth as a person and as a musician. SOR is her second family. ”
    — Lori H., parent, Downingtown, PA
