  • School of Rock The Woodlands's Performance Program is all about translating our students' abilities to play in the lesson room to performing for real on stage. In addition to refining their overall skill and proficiency as musicians, students learn what comes with being part of a band: teamwork, collaboration, and the special brand of fun that only comes from sharing awesome experiences with others.

Students learn, absorb, and perform iconic hits from some of history's greatest rock and roll performers including The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Van Halen, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin and many more. No matter what they perform, our students will learn incredible skills and enjoy epic experiences that will last a lifetime.

All students in The Woodlands's Performance Program can expect:

    • Real-life performances on stage at amazing venues

    • Fun, music, and education wrapped into one all-inclusive experience!

  • School of Rock The Woodlands’s Rock 101 Program encourages fun and success for our younger students as they begin their journey. The days of traditional instruction with piles of sheet music are over. At School of Rock The Woodlands, we believe that playing real music is the only path to proficiency and a true appreciation for music.

In Rock 101, students select one instrument to study, and we begin teaching fundamentals: scales, chords, notes, time signatures, and all the rest. Our unique approach to music instruction teaches our students vital fundamentals through songs they know and love, not rote memorization. With real musical context in a fun environment, we give all of our students the knowledge they need to really pursue their passion for music.

All students in The Woodlands’s Rock 101 Program can expect:

    • Weekly private music lessons on guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, and/or vocals
    • Weekly group rehearsals to reinforce the fundamentals in a team environment
    • A firm grasp of the basics of music theory and technique
    • An understanding of what it means to play solo and in a group
    • Real knowledge gained through real fun!

  • School of Rock The Woodlands’s top students can audition for our most prestigious honor: the School of Rock AllStars Program. Our AllStars represent the best of the best students from School of Rock’s entire global network of schools. With incredible musical aptitude, a knack for teamwork and incredible focus, today’s AllStars truly represent the future of rock and roll.

Each summer, our AllStars embark on an authentic concert tour to perform in jaw-dropping live shows across the country, including Red Rocks, Lollapalooza, Hangout Music Fest, NAMM, Gathering of the Vibes, and countless others. AllStars also get to share the stage with experienced, larger-than-life performers like Alice Cooper, Eddie Vedder, and Slash, to name a few. There is no better way for a star on the rise to get a taste for what professional music is really like.

School of Rock The Woodlands’s AllStars can expect:

    • The opportunity to rock out on stage with world-renowned artists

  • School of Rock The Woodlands is now enrolling for our Adult Performance Program, where adult students of all proficiency levels can explore and conquer the world of music. We get our students playing and learning at lightning-quick speeds through practical performance rather than run-of-the-mill music instruction programs. At School of Rock The Woodlands, the thrill of the performance is just as important as learning the skill to rock.

Our adult students learn the fundamentals of music, including scales, chords, notes, progressions, and more, through some of the most iconic songs and sounds in music history. Whether you’re a die-hard fan of rock ‘n roll or a metal-loving head-banger at home in the mosh pit, our teachers know how to best connect your love for music with a passion for learning it.

All students in School of Rock The Woodlands’s Adult Program can expect:

    • Fast-paced instruction in one of our great musical offerings: guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, and/or vocals
    • Weekly private instruction catered to your goals and level of proficiency
    • Rehearsals with others just like you to get ready for real shows at live music venues
    • An understanding of music theory and technique fundamentals, learned through songs from your favorite music genre
    • Fun, instruction, and a great progression of practical skills wrapped all into one!

  • School of Rock The Woodlands’s Rookies Program offers a gateway to understanding music for first and second graders. Using proprietary set-ups for guitar, bass, drums and keyboard, as well as other tools, we introduce our Rookies to music fundamentals in a fun way. The skills and passion for music that our Rookies learn prepare them for Rock 101 and a lifelong love of music.

With exercises, tools and games customized to their age group, our The Woodlands Rookies learn the concepts of music theory, rhythm, pitch, form and dynamics as they play alongside their friends. We encourage our students to explore various instruments and play styles so they begin to understand how individual contributions form a band; even the best solo keyboard players or vocalists need to understand how an ensemble works.

All students in The Woodlands’s Rookies Program can expect:

    • Weekly group lessons using guitar, bass, keyboard and drums
    • Exposure to essential fundamentals like music theory, pitch and rhythm
    • A focus on teamwork and collaboration
    • An understanding of what it means to play solo and in a group
    • Fun combined with practical learning!

Just like our standard programs, our camps offer a high-energy experience that is fun, creative and team-oriented. Our students learn music by playing it with their peers, guided by experienced instructors from the music community.

Starting out as a School of Rock student in 2013, Julia Cochran, has always had a love for music. Now she rocks out and teaches on multiple instruments playing to some of her new favorite bands like Foo Fighters, The Beatles, Nirvana, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Julia teaches Guitar, Bass Guitar, Vocals, and Piano.

Born in Scotland, moving to Azerbaijan at age 9, and then to America when he was 14, Connor started playing guitar as a convenience to his mother. Since the family would get a discount if both of the Farmer boys enrolled in guitar lessons, Connor went along to give it a try. After a year of classical guitar training, Connor was hooked and went on to learn other styles as well. Although no one else in his family carried on with musical education, he had found his passion. In high school, Connor played in several different bands, playing for school theater productions, local events and Battle of the Bands competitions. A former School of Rock student and now instructor, Connor loves the social interaction and opportunities he has to play music for an audience. He hopes to be a positive example to his students and allow them to grow, both musically and personally, just as he has within the program. 90s Grunge music is what influences Connor. His favorite bands are Alice in Chains, Sound Garden, Pearl Jam and Nirvana. Motto: When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace. Hello all,

How is everybody? We're doing SO WELL up here at the school- this season is off to a great start, our groups feel really fun and are getting bigger and better every day. We're giving more responsibility to the students here and they are totally rising to the occasion.

What do we mean by this? Well, we are offering the students the chance to shape their own education. Each musician in our performance program has been assigned two songs to play in their group. When they learn these songs and are able to lead the group, they will be assigned more songs. This gives our kids incentives to work hard, study at home, and to come to the groups prepared. This also gives them some leadership opportunities here at the school.

We elect song captains based on who is most confident on the song. This song captain leads the way through the song DURING THE SONG. This means they not only focus on playing their parts but also communicating in the moment with the other musicians in the room. We have seen this work really well in the past and are excited about carrying this tradition forward in the future.

We've also got something very exciting to announce. We have partnered with the Health Museum in Houston for an exhibit on how wonderful music is for our bodies.

Come find out in the new interactive exhibition now open at The Health Museum. BIORHYTHM: MUSIC & THE BODY is an engaging visitor experience created by Science Gallery Dublin. It explores the relationship between music and the body through art and science. From an acoustic bed to sonic tables and experiments that gauge your emotional response to pop music, BIORHYTHM allows visitors to feel how music moves you.

School of Rock is pleased to partner with The Health Museum for monthly concerts we’re calling Sunday Rocks. These Sunday concerts are the second Sunday of each month and will highlight various School of Rock bands from throughout Houston.

We, the Woodlands School of Rock, hope you can join us on May 13 at 1, 2 or 3 p.m. for three 30-minute concerts played by School of Rock Cypress, and the chance to see this amazing exhibition.

Special School of Rock Ticket Offer:

Friends and family are welcome to use promo code ROCK to receive one free admission when purchasing another ticket to The Health Museum. Enter that promo code at check-out or mention at the Museum ticket desk.

This is an exciting promotion and looks to be a very cool exhibit.

Thanks again for all y'all do. This school is a community, and each and every one of y'all contributes by bringing your kids to the school, supporting them and their creativity, and encouraging them to follow their dreams.

      Hello all,

Welcome to the *drumroll please* FIRST DAY OF THE NEW SEAAAAASSSSSONNNNNN! YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!

It is officially the Spring 2018 Season, and boy, do we have some exciting things for you. How about we share?

Here are the Spotify playlists for our groups this season:

      Monday:
Garage Rock Revival - Performance Group
      Soul / R&B - Adult Group

      Tuesday:
Evolution of Punk - Performance Group

      Wednesday:
      Rock 101 (Age 7-9)
      Rock 101 (Age 10-12)

      Friday:
British Big 4 - Performance Group

      Saturday:
      Rock 101 (Age 7-9)
      Rock 101 (Age 10-12)

Pretty cool, huh? We're focusing on fun, upbeat rock and roll music with the intention that our kids will feel more plugged in, and have a sense of urgency to their playing. We're still going to learn a lot about the mechanics of music and about music theory. We're just going to learn how rock and roll musicians made it work for them.

We're really stoked about this new season, we spent the off week cleaning the school, the entire school has been cleaned, dusted, and painted. We also planned out a curriculum for our performance groups and rock 101s that should bring a sense of order and a bit more linear growth to the whole program.

We've been putting in lots of hours figuring out how to make this school feel more fun while still becoming more educational, we believe we're doing a good thing. We hope y'all enjoy it too.

Lots more exciting things coming up, y'all stay tuned.

      Till next time,
      SOR The Woodlands

This next week, 1/29-2/4 will be our off week. We will not have lessons during this week. We will be cleaning, painting, preparing for our next season shows. Like I said, we're excited!
