About School of Rock Glen Ellyn

Welcome to School of Rock Glen Ellyn—a haven for aspiring musicians who love rock n’ roll. We believe live performance is the most fun and effective way to teach an instrument, which is why we get kids playing on stage as quickly as possible. Our classes are tailored to all age groups and levels of proficiency, and instructors are passionate about creating a legacy of music by helping students succeed in music and beyond.

We also believe that music is more than a solo act. That’s why School of Rock Glen Ellyn teaches kids to play alone and as part of a team. This approach promotes accountability, speeds up the learning process, and fosters an inclusive community of rockers in Glen Ellyn. Students are not only learning an instrument—they’re making friends, building confidence, and becoming better people.

Eric Binder's love for music began at a very early age. Having been born into a very musical family, it was an unavoidable and integral part of his upbringing. He has spent the majority of his life as a performing musician, having played in a handful of bands spanning multiple rock sub-genres for the better part of 2 decades. He's performed at renown venues like House of Blues Chicago, Bottom Lounge, and Mojo's with his current band, 7 Corners, and also done graphic design work for musicians across the country including the logo design of rock band XEB (ex-original members of classic 90's alt-rock band Third Eye Blind). He also served as a co-leader of the Chicago division of 30 Seconds to Mars' street team where he collaborated with Virgin Records and the band on marketing and promotional tactics as well as the distribution of promotional materials. After completing his Bachelors Degree in Music Business from Full Sail University and spending some time managing in the food service industry, he fell in love with the idea of being a part of School of Rock where he could put his lifetime of experience in the music industry to good use. He is absolutely thrilled to be able to share his passion for music and his insights about the music industry with the kids who will become torch-bearers for the local music scene and beyond.

Sean Briskey is a guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, and instructor based out of Chicago, IL. Currently, he performs frequently with Stampy, Great Sky Band, Shady Grady & the Nobodies, and Northwest Corner while also picking up any freelance work that comes his way. When not on stage or at rehearsal, Sean is the Music Director of the School of Rock Glen Ellyn location where he teaches and inspires students of all ages to play music.

Sean was surprised with a guitar at the age of 10 by his father and has not looked back since. Beginning with a few years of lessons in blues and basic classic rock, Sean quickly gained an ear and a love for multiple styles of music. His first band Lobster Newberg was an original progressive rock outfit, playing complex songs with odd meters and meandering passages. Drawing influences from the likes of King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Yes, and Frank Zappa, Sean co-wrote and recorded his first album when he was just 16. As his musical taste grew, so did his motivation to learn more. He joined his high school's jazz band and began learning the art of improvisation.

By the time he was a senior in high school, he had performed at many notable Chicagoland venues and shared bills with national touring acts such as The Alan Parsons Project and The Ides Of March. After just one semester at Loyola University Chicago, Sean switched his history major to music after realizing where his true passion was. Studying under Chicago jazz giants Kyle Asche, Pat Fleming, Anthony Molinaro, and Victor Garcia, he gained a tight grasp on music theory and multiple genres/styles.

After completing his degree at Loyola, Sean went on to teach guitar and ensemble performance for a few Chicago music-based companies before landing his current position with the School of Rock. Sean recently co-wrote and released a debut self-titled album with his main group Stampy, with the sophomore album already in the works. Along with another full length debut coming from Great Sky Band (Summer 2018), Sean continues to teach and stay active in the Chicago music scene wherever a tune finds him.

Tina Schmidt’s journey with School of Rock started as a parent. A Rocker Mom of two awesome boys that began the day the school opened its doors in 2013! She saw first-hand how unique and special the program was through the eyes of her boys. Sharing their excitement about music that is so close to your heart and being part of the great opportunities they were experiencing, SoR Glen Ellyn became home. She knew from that moment that her background in education and her lifelong passion for music could truly come together at SoR. So when the roles of Studio Coordinator and Little Wing instructor presented themselves, it was a perfect fit.

With a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Northern Illinois University and a Master’s Degree from University of Illinois, Chicago, Tina is no stranger to working with children of all ages. Being an educator, she understands the importance of music education and all the rewarding benefits it has to offer. When she is not busy playing Tetris with the students’ schedules and helping to keep the school running smoothly, you can find her engaging the youngest of rockers in the Little Wing program and instilling a love for music and learning!

Laura Lopardo's immersion into a life of music began at a very young age. Some of her earliest memories are of her family jamming late into the night, and she joined in on the top harmony as soon as she could. She began studying music in earnest by 7, and at 10 was studying classical and opera, spending much of her teens onstage pursuing her love of musical theater. She went on to pursue a music major in college and began honing her performing chops in local open mics and cover bands. Currently, she's providing vocals and percussion for Journeyman - A Tribute To Eric Clapton and several local bands including Ring Of Music and The Mid Knights. Teaching and directing have always been a passion of hers, and she's proud to have been able to call School Of Rock Glen Ellyn home since 2013.

Chris Kline is a born composer/songwriter that specializes in keyboards and voice. He’s played piano for 15+ years and sang for most of his life. His list of musical experiences goes on and on. After graduating from McNally Smith College of Music in St Paul, MN, Chris invested most of his time in freelance work and a band by the name Narrow Vines. Most recently, Chris has spent time performing on cruise lines playing for guest entertainers and production shows, as well as jazz sets and solo sets. Even on ships, Chris seized opportunities to teach private music lessons to other performers and workers that expressed their interest in lessons. He’s always been a natural teacher and jumps at the opportunity to pass on what he knows to those enthusiastic to learn.

Ian Engels is a Chicago musician, born and bred. He received his first guitar as a gift at 10 years old and, more than 14 years later, he still has the same passion for the instrument as the first time he picked it up. He started gigging at age 12 at the blues clubs in and around Chicago. From those roots in blues, Ian grew into many different genres such as jazz, rock, bluegrass, and other contemporary styles. He currently plays in Stampy, Great Sky Band, Alpaca Smokes, and works with many other Chicago groups. Ian’s playing and teaching styles are similar in that he puts everything into the music. He believes that a personal connection to the music, theoretical understanding, and open creativity are essential as a musician, learner, and instructor. Ian is a dedicated musician and teacher and is always pushing to better himself, music, and his students.

Sam Cho was encapsulated with the electric guitar when he first heard Jimi Hendrix over the radio. Ever since that day, he has transcribed and learned several of the great blues and rock musicians throughout the late 20th century. After graduating high school in North Carolina, he moved to Wheaton, Illinois for college. Throughout his studies, however, his love for music has never diminished. During his time at college, he participated with the Wheaton College Gospel Choir on tours both in and outside the United States. Because of his immersion with the band members of the gospel choir, he specializes in gospel, R&B, and neo-soul. When you don’t find him playing guitar, you’ll find him in the deepest and dampest caves in the library, studying.

David Belcher believes that drumming is a form of expression as old as time, yet is astoundingly relevant in every context of modern life. His story starts all the way back in the crib where his dad would play AM jazz radio for him while he slept. This, combined with some serious musical talent in his family, led David to banging on silverware, pots, pans, and whatever else he could find at an early age. Oddly enough, however, the passion for the drum set would lie dormant in him until he was about 12 when a rock concert at a talent show really ignited his love for the instrument. Incessant practicing turned into a ravenous quest to consume whatever music he could find that had great drums, and over time he tempered that drive to drum into a warm, resonant glow for all things percussion and beyond! David finds great joy in teaching, and transmuting just a little sliver of his wild musical mind into the hearts and souls of his students. He believes School of Rock is a perfect avenue for his love of teaching music, as it’s a place that really embraces each teacher’s individuality. His students always enter and leave the room smiling, and they both learn a ton from each other! He finds great pleasure in meeting each and every student and learning about their unique perspective on life and music, and how he can help expand their understanding while keeping it fun. His lessons flow naturally as it all comes from a shared love of music!
