Owner/Manager/Vocal Instructor/Show Director Jason's musical journey started very early. He started piano lessons at the age of seven and it wasn't long after that he decided he wanted to learn how to play the guitar. Still not feeling like he had found his true musical calling he decided to give his school chorus a try when he entered High School. Things started moving fast from there. He formed his first band as the lead singer and by the time he graduated High School he went away to college on a vocal performance scholarship. While in college he formed his first touring band called Next Best Thing. They had some success including two albums and a song placed in a very popular Motorcycle DVD that pressed over 500,000 copies. After college NBT broke up and Jason was left searching for a new musical outlet. Little did he know he would soon find it in multiple forms. He co-founded The Run Around. In the seven years The Run Around has been together they have played shows all across this country, sold thousands of albums, have asuccessfulmusic video and shared the stage with such national acts as Tom Petty, Blues Traveler, Alien Ant Farm, Head Automatica, Lucky Boys Confusion, Nine Days, Gavin Degraw and many, many more! In The Midst of all this, Jason was hired on as a vocal instructor at another School of Rock in the area. It wasn't long before he was recognized for his ability to direct and put on an impressive live show and was asked to direct the performance program at the SOR. From there he went on to be the General Manager. He learned that he loved The School of Rock mission and everything it represented and decided he wanted to make School of Rock his life. Geneva has always been a favorite town of his and just minutes away from where he grew up so he thought it was a great place to set up shop and start the next great chapter of his life. He can't wait to help mold the next generation of Rock n Roll Royalty!

Owen Szorc is a professional guitarist from St. Charles, IL. Growing up he found himself experimenting with many instruments, but once he found the guitar he never looked back. In high school the guitar became an obsession, he formed his first rock band not long after starting guitar which also gave him his first touring experience. With his skills advancing quickly he joined the high school Jazz Band which led him into becoming the well rounded musician that he is today.
After high school Owen attended Elmhurst College and completed a double bachelor’s degree in Music Business and in Jazz Studies. While there he was fortunate to study with world class jazz guitarists Frank Portolese and Mike Pinto, classical guitarist Wes Hixson, and bassist Ken Haebich. Outside of school Owen studied with the Baltimore area Fingerstyle great, Steve Herberman. With the help of these teachers and 8 hours or more of practice daily, Owen rose to the top of the program, and made the top Jazz Band where he was fortunate enough to tour overseas, while gaining many other opportunities.
Since then Owen has been fortunate enough to perform in a variety of bands including Wedding bands, Motown and Funk groups, Rock and Blues cover bands, self led Jazz groups, and solo Jazz / Classical performances.

At School of Rock Geneva, Owen is a Seasonal Show Director and Guitar/Bass Instructor.

Kelsey is a vocalist and guitarist from Plainfield, IL. She knew at a young age that she wanted to pursue music. After teaching herself the basics of guitar and vocals throughout middle school, she decided she wanted to take music more seriously. At 14, she discovered School of Rock. She started vocal training with Jason Fein (Owner, Director and Vocal Instructor) at School of Rock. Kelsey spent all 4 of her years at SOR in the Performance Program and as a House Band member. This opportunity allowed her to help out with other SoR Programs like Rock 101, Little Wing, and Rookies. Kelsey knew she wanted to continue her journey at School of Rock past her time as a student. Kelsey gained a large amount of experience learning and performing music both for School of Rock and within her own bands. In fact, Kelsey met all four members of her band (California Killers) at School of Rock. She aspires to live up to the great teachers at School of Rock who taught her the ins-and-outs of playing, performing, learning, and loving music.

Marycate is a vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter from Glen Ellyn, IL. Heavily influenced by her father's love of classic blues, rock, and his classical finger-style guitar playing, she began studying music at an early age, picking up many instruments including piano, flute, violin, and guitar until discovering that her voice was her true instrument. She attended Columbia College Chicago where she studied vocal performance within the Contemporary Urban and Popular Music program, graduating in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music. She spent several years immersing herself in Chicago's local music scene, becoming part of the Chicago Songwriter Alliance, playing many noted venues, and getting the opportunity to open for American Idol's Casey Abrams in 2014. Despite her accomplishments in the music industry, she felt something was missing in her career and turned her attention toward becoming an educator. She became intrigued by School of Rock's mission to teach in a way that mirrored the music programs at Columbia College. She strongly believes that a practical education in music is the best way to take the steps toward being a professional working musician. Marycate hopes to inspire many young rockers-to-be and is excited to be part of the School of Rock family."

At a very young age I had a deep love for music; I remember sitting in front of my radio for hours with a tape recorder ready just in case a good song came on. After fiddling around with piano and bass for a year, at 16 years-old I finally bought my first set of drums and I never looked back. Considering the fact that I started playing so late in life, I felt that I had some catching up to do. So, the proceeding 5-years I was a recluse. In that time all I did was take lessons, practice, read about drums, and play music wherever I could. At 22 my brother and I started a band and enjoyed five successful years. We took a break for a short while during which time I focused on studying and teaching jazz. Now, I play throughout the tri-state area with musicians of all kinds with the intent of building a powerful community through the arts.

Sam started vocal training, (picking up guitar and bass a year later), with our very own Jason Fein (owner, Director and vocal instructor) at School of Rock. After years of assisting the Rock 101 program, Rookies Program and Little Wing program, Sam knew she wanted to inspire and teach SoR students the same way her instructors inspired and taught her. Sam has had years of lessons, performance programs and countless performance experience with not only SoR House Band, but also performing with bands of her own. Sam Coyner went on to be the first graduate from School of Rock, Plainfield. She says, "Joining School of Rock was easily the best decision I've ever made. Not only did it make me realize that my dream of fronting a band was possible, it made it a reality."

Dave started piano lessons at age 9 and immediately became enthralled with the art. At a young age, his thirst for musical knowledge grew as he engaged in multiple school music programs, learned guitar, joined rock bands, and started writing music. In college he studied piano under Dr. JeongSoo Kim. Under her guidance Dave was able to further develop his technique and performance, while also understanding the approach to different styles and genres of music. Dave has been able to apply what he learned from Dr. Kim to his students. Focusing on the fundamentals first, Dave is a firm believer that despite what style of music you wish to play, whether it is classical, jazz, blues, or rock, you must always start with the basics.

Dave is currently involved in several music projects. He is working toward a graduate degree in both music education and composition. He plays guitar with a local rock in the Chicagoland area. And, he is exploring music production as a means to compose his own music as well as offer his services for cinematic scoring.

"I am really excited to be working at the School of Rock. I find the concept to be both very unique and incredibly innovative. The approach to learning music does not always have to follow one traditional path. All students learn and respond differently and the School of Rock offers an alternative ideology which creates a unique learning atmosphere that stimulates a thirst for knowledge. I would encourage anybody interested in learning an instrument to give the School of Rock's approach a chance."

Dan Covarrubias is a song writer at heart with the love for the theatrics of how music makes you feel. At age 14, he found himself playing guitar for the sound while also paying dues to the development of speed and strategy through focused practice. He believes its important to have a balance between 'play' on the instrument and focused practice because at one point the two come together resulting in the strong ability to pick upriffs and melodies from others, written scores and by ear. Throughout Dans music career he has recorded multiple albums of original songs first fully as A capella then with guitar when his everyday practice started to pay out. "Writing music is easy when it stems from imagination. I'd hum out melodies that sounded like the general topic I wanted to cover, then write words to it later. I took many years writing songs this way until my guitar skills caught up and allowed me to record the music in my head on guitar." Dan approach towards 'feeling' the notes purpose makes his lead guitar phrasing more meaningful and soulful. He believes that with a focused and fun approach: Music theory can be broken down into concepts and understood with in the context of a song fairly easily. Dan took up Lead Guitar in a Rockband called Catch A Fire for three years. The band was composed of like-minded singer songwriter musicians in the West Suburbs of Chicago. He enjoyed touring through Illinois at multiple rock venues and sharing the stage with popular jam bands such as Old Shoe, Family Groove Company, Afternoonmoon, Egi and countless others. Dan currently performs as a solo entertainer within the Geneva/St.Charles/Batavia open mic scene. His one-man-band style highlights for his variety of guitar styles achieved; Beautiful Lead Solo work, loop pedal mastery, classical finger picking covers of by Elton John, The Beatles, and even fast bluegrass renditions of Johnny Cash and Paul Simon.

Carly is a vocalist from South Elgin, IL and has been singing and pursuing music since she was very young. She started piano lessons at the age of 6 and has been taking voice lessons since she was 8 years old. Her household growing up was revolved around music of many different styles. From learning percussion from her brother whom also played guitar and was the drummer of a metal band, to growing up listening to classic jazz, blues, rock, and everything in between from her music guru of a father. Since being involved in theatre and music throughout middle school and high school, Carly decided to pursue Musical Theatre at Oklahoma City University’s prestigious music program. She then ended up graduating with a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance in 2016, with classical voice training under her belt. In Oklahoma City, she was involved in performances through her music program, and also with local bands in the city, and was part of an a cappella group, all while teaching private voice lessons to students of all ages. She also had the pleasure of being chosen to be a part of intensive vocal programs in Germany, New Mexico, and New York City. She loves the opportunity at School of Rock to educate and share her love of singing all while having fun, and believes a true singing voice comes from the soul, no matter what age or genre!

  • “School of Rock is a great, positive experience for our daughter. She loves the one on one lessons and the group experience with the performance. We couldn't be happier she's involved with School of Rock.”

  • “Our daughter LOVES going to School of Rockshe likes getting there early, and staying after her lessons if she can. Everyone is nice, respectful, and it's just fun to be there. She's been learning so much and I think it's great that kids are practicing how to work collaboratively, with other students and even the teachers.”
    - Julie Denker
  • “Love the focus on band performance. Gets kids playing songs right off the bat and not bogging them down with too much music theory, etc. This concept keeps their interest and truly makes for a fun experience. Playing music should be FUN and SoR follows that plan. My daughter is a dancer and has been performing on stage from a very early age so SoR is right in her "wheelhouse". She loves it! We are all looking forward to her first band "gig". Everyone at SoRGeneva has been extremely nice and attentive. Leslie is very responsive and a pleasure to deal with. She has always been prompt in addressing my questions and concerns. As a parent, that is extremely important. I have already referred SoR to other families.”
    - Michael Tassi
  • “My son loves this music school! He has a blast at every band session and every lesson!”
