In Rock 101, we focus our instruction on the one instrument that students have chosen to study. Whether we’re teaching scales, chords, notes, or time signatures, we put concepts in context so students understand how the principles they learn are applied to real music. With exercises, tools and games customized to their age group, our Aurora Rookies learn the concepts of music theory, rhythm, pitch, form and dynamics as they play alongside their friends. Daniel Cawley was born in Somerville, NJ where he began his academic life as a percussionist at the age of 7. For his 7th birthday he received a Remo practice pad and the drummers bible, "Stick Control" by George Stone. Before that, his taste was strictly avant-garde, refusing to play on anything but pots and pans. Daniel began taking lessons for the drum set at the age of 8 and continued to take lessons until age 18. At 10, his family moved from NJ to NC where he would continue his love for music and expand from lessons to playing in various bands. In high-school, Daniel took private lessons from Robert Shi, Berkley Grad and Author of "Drummers First Aid Kit." After high-school, Daniel attended NC State University for business management but was never able to shake his love for playing the drums, so after leaving business school he decided he would dedicate himself to finding, preparing for, and getting accepted to a competitive music program. Denver had that ideal program and he is currently enrolled at Denver University: Lamont School of Music in the Jazz Studies for Drum set program where he studies under the Jazz Drummer, Mike Marlier. Teaching for Daniel embodies a responsibility to encourage and inform the artists of the future.

Music has always been an important party of Bobby's life. As the son of two music majors, he was always surrounded by music, and at age 10 started playing the trumpet in the band at church. After spending the first half of his life in Germany and England due to his father's deployments in the US military, his family settled in Colorado Springs in 2001. It was about this time that the electric guitar became single coolest thing in the world, and by the end of his high school years, his single biggest dedication. Since graduating with a bachelor's degree from University of Denver in Jazz Guitar Performance, Bobby has become heavily involved in the Denver music scene; regularly performing various genres of music from solo acoustic guitar, to jazz trios, top 40, to rock and beyond. His most recent endeavor has been the launch of a successful "Women of Rock" tribute band.

  • “We love School of Rock Aurora, the staff and the instructors! Everyone is always friendly and the quality of instruction is fantastic. My kiddo loves to go rock out!”

  • “I like that our kids learn to appreciate music from real groups that actually perform/performed live on stage, they learn to be responsible and accountable to the rest of their band members, and they learn to work together to produce real results (music and stage performance) without their parents having to push them. A great way to learn music history and mature as teen agers. The extra bonus is I'm never worried about who my kids are hanging out with when they are at SOR.”

  • “Great upbeat instructors and staff (pun intended), wonderful variety in shows offered, real venues for the student to experience playing in, well organized and details covered, good communication of details to students and parents, high expectations of the students and they rise to new levels, leadership and volunteer opportunities, respect and mentoring of each other encouraged a fantastic way for kids to express themselves and meet others with similar interests. Students are actively involved in setting up and producing the events, getting a taste of ownership in a business and developing genuine responsibility. It has been wonderful to see our son's growth in confidence and ability. He has a true commitment to the school. The school earns that from its students and in turn benefits. A truly valuable and worthwhile experience all around!”
