what a year it's been
We've spent the month of December sharing stories about the Gift of Music: why our students are happy their parents gave them music lessons, why parents chose to give lessons, why instructors are grateful to share their talents, and more. As 2018 comes to a close, we here at School of Rock Chapel Hill find ourselves in a state of reflection and gratitude for all the music our students have shared with us this past year. Take a minute to look back on some of the highlights from 2018.
Our Performance Program was non-stop all year, putting on a whopping seven shows throughout the year.
- Hammer of the Gods: Zeppelin I & II
- Rock Goddesses
- Essential Pink Floyd
- Southern Rock
- Funk N Soul
- It's Only Rolling Stones, But I Like It
- Classic Metal
Our Rock 101ers worked hard to learn songs by artists from Sheryl Crow to Imagine Dragons to Eric Clapton to the Ramones and more! They performed at many of the above shows and several of our Rock 101ers graduated this year and got to perform in their first seasonal shows!
The 15-501ers, our adult band, really grew into its own this year and gigged three times!
Our Rookies students had fun, worked a little, and made some noise as they learned the basics of music. Many found the instruments they wish to focus on in 2019 and graduated up to Lessons Only or Rock 101!
During our first full calendar year in operation, we were able to start some traditions to celebrate and bring our community together.
- Birthday Party: We rocked the parking lot with performances from our House Band, Rock 101, and two adult bands, and a yummy cake to ring in our first year.
- Halloween Party: Despite gloomy weather, we had a great turnout for our first annual Halloween party. House Band and Rock 101 provided the entertainment, and there were costume contests, and, of course, lots of candy.
- Holiday Party: the House Band and the 15-501ers rocked Vecino Brewing Company with classic rock and rockin' versions of holiday classics.
We made sure to make an appearance in as many of our great local venues as possible this year, including:
- The Pittsboro Roadhouse
- Local 506
- Cat's Cradle Back Room
- Vecino Brewing Co.
- The Station
- Blue Note Grill
- The Varsity Theatre
- Mystery Brewing Company
It's no secret that the Triangle is a good location for good music. Our House Band was fortunate enough to make themselves known at a few:
- Carrboro Music Fest
- Shakori Hills Festival
The 2017 summer was a great learning opportunity for us to try out a few camp themes, and we really hit our stride in 2018 with the following camps:
- Guitar Building & Jam Camp
- Green Day Camp
- Roots of Rock Camp
- Rookies Camp
- Rock 101 Camp
The Chapel Hill House Band got the taste of a quintessential professional musician experience by joining a few other School of Rock schools on tour this summer, starting in Hillsborough, traveling to Pigeon Forge, TN, Atlanta, GA, and Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
The community we're in makes us what we are. We appreciate the warm welcome we've received as we've entered the Chapelboro sphere. As a token of our gratitude, we've endeavored to give back to the place and people we call home. This year, we've partnered with:
- The Public School Foundation
- The Giving Party
- Local schools
- and more!
2019 is shaping up to be even better
We have a lot of exciting things in the works for 2019, and trust us when we say, you don't want to miss out. From new and improved summer camps, more seasonal shows at more venues, a bigger, better tour, and MORE, School of Rock Chapel Hill is guaranteed to help your new year rock.
