Come out and ROCK with students from School of Rock Bedford's Classic Prog show on Friday, May 18th at 7:00 PM as they rock the stage at The Heights at Brother Vic's! This and the Sunday show are FREE and ALL-AGES so come out and support these awesome kids.

Our students are taking on one of the most challenging sub-genres in music history with a tribute to CLASSIC PROG! The bands on this list abandoned the short pop single in favor of instrumentation and composition techniques traditionally associated with jazz and classical music. Within these songs is a high degree of instrumental skill with additional complexities and rock-solid band arrangements. Not easy stuff for our advanced students!

Progressive rock artists are known as sonic innovators in the rock genre, and this material has stood the test of time to motivate and inspire musicians of many generations. Come out and listen to classic compositions by Rush, Yes, Genesis, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, King Crimson, and Jethro Tull during this trip through prog history!

Come out and ROCK at Daryl's House Club for a performance of Pink Floyd - The Wall in its entirety by School of Rock Bedford students on Saturday, June 2nd at 11:30 AM! This show is FREE and ALL-AGES on this awesome stage.

PINK FLOYD's THE WALL is one of rock and roll's greatest albums, as well as a School of Rock time-honored tradition. You can be part of the show celebrating School of Rock / Bedford's 10 Year Anniversary as we perform the double album that opened our school a decade ago! We're bringing it back for a second run with songs including: Comfortably Numb, In the Flesh, Hey You, Run Like Hell, and Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2.

The Wall is both a concept album and a rock opera, combining amazing songwriting with theatrical elements which have been performed live by Pink Floyd and made into a feature film. While songs explore themes of isolation and abandonment, there's a recurring and anthemic line that resonates all over these records: "TEAR DOWN THE WALL!" You have the chance to see our students recreate a 26 track masterpiece.

He attended University of Bridgeport, majoring in music, and studied with Howard Zwickler for a year before leaving Bridgeport to pursue a career in live performance. He has since recorded with multiple original projects. In 1996 Lou joined Connecticut prog-metal band Soundscape and released three albums, 'Discovery', 'Iago', and 'Grave New World', distributed internationally under Angelthorne Music Company. There is a long list of recording credits to date and his live performances number is in the thousands. Currently Lou is involved with KICKSVILLE, a national project that defies definition (you need to listen for yourself at www.kicksville.com). He also keeps busy playing live with Limelight (North America's #1 Rush tribute band in 2004, 2007-2013), The Hudson Valley Guitar Project, and various other projects. Lou is also an experienced studio engineer, booking agent, and manager.

Not long after his first word was uttered, Will was singing and grooving along to the music of the Beatles, Steely Dan, Frankie Valle, and whatever else was in his parents' record collection.A graduate of Purchase College's Conservatory of Music with a Master's Degree in Studio Composition, Will has always had an engaged and studious approach to music of all styles ranging from blues, boogie, classical, jazz, pop, and metal. He brings the same level of dedication and enthusiasm to his teaching style, emphasizing the student, not the method. In addition to being the music director, keyboardist, and backup vocalist for Rockland County-based Dark Side of the Hudson Pink Floyd tribute band, Will is an in-demand freelance composer/arranger. He also performs in several bands including the eclectic art rock group Diazepam as keyboardist/vocalist, as well as his classic rock cover band Critical Mass where he performs the same duties. Will can also be heard on guitarist/virtuoso Bert Elliot's Asylum in Playland, where he plays alongside of Yankee's legend Bernie Williams, bassist pro Stu Hamm, and drummer extraordinaire Atma Anur.

Testimonials

  • “I was very nervous when I started a Performance Program, but I felt very welcomed and comfortable very quickly. Shows are a lot of fun to be in and the people in them are very nice. The music is always great, and we all end up sounding pretty amazing!”
    - Amelia, 13 year old guitarist, Bedford, NY
  • “The performance aspect is great. It is so great for the kids to get a chance to be a part of a group and learn what it's like to perform in front of people.”
    - Lisa B., parent, Bedford, NY
  • “The opportunity for a child/teen to learn an instrument AND play in a band setting culminating in a live performance is an invaluable experience that has no equal. I fully appreciate School of Rock's approach to matching kids by ability level not age. My son and I are thrilled to be a part of SoR and hope for a long lasting relationship. Rock on!”
    - Adam K., parent, Bedford, NY
  • “Our son loves this program. We loved that he improved so much. He took guitar lessons for four years before School of Rock and didn't really make much progress. In one week at one of the summer camps he improved more than he had in the previous four years. And now he is very motivated to continue playing!”
