Music teaches kids life lessons with every note. For Dave, School of Rock Attleboro is a culmination of his three great passions - playing music, starting businesses, and working with kids.

Dave’s love of music began at age 6, when he started playing his first instrument. By age 14, he was playing professionally in a very successful local band in the Rhode Island / Southeastern Massachusetts area. Dave capitalized on the discipline, team building, leadership and perseverance that he developed through his experience with music when he co-founded a medical device company in 1999. Throughout his professional career he never forgot about his great passion for music. His commitment to creating and performing music has paid dividends over a lifetime.

While in the medical device industry, Dave joined the Taunton Area School to Career (TASC) Board of Directors, and served for several years as their Treasurer. In addition to helping guide the organization, he has volunteered as a mentor to help numerous high school students explore career development opportunities.

Dave sees this new venture as the right mix of business and fun. The School of Rock is a franchise with over 200 locations worldwide and over 25,000 students enrolled. The company has grown because of a successful program that produces results. The school provides young people with a creative performance environment where they are guided by professional musicians. Students who enroll get individual instruction, group rehearsals, and are casted into live shows that are performed at major venues. Show themes may include: The British Invasion, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, Motown, Funk, Reggae and many others.

Carl is a versatile musician with a love of music that has led him to study, play, and teach in many fulfilling ways. He began playing at a young age but didn’t realize his passion for music until formal lessons in high school. Carl went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a concentration in Music Composition and a minor in Jazz Studies from Rhode Island College, and now specializes in guitar, bass, piano, and voice. Since graduating, he teaches private music lessons, giving students the passion for music that was given to him. He is a founding member and keyboardist for the local Funk/Rock band Take It To The Bridge, guest drummer for the country/rock group The Aviators, as well as a staple multi-instrumentalist and vocalist involved in several different acts at the Strange Brew Pub including their monthly “Album Tribute Night” events.

Chris Brunelle brings nearly 20 years as a professional musician and a passion for education to School of Rock. Starting as a jazz saxophonist, Chris studied with Greg Abate and pursued a degree in Music education at the University of Rhode Island. His skills as a horn player and vocalist were in high demand and in 2001 he became a member of Boston-based Ska and Reggae outfit Westbound Train, touring nationally in support of The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Flogging Molly, Hepcat and many others. But Chris grew up worshipping Rock legends like The Police, The Doors, Aerosmith, Paul Simon, Billy Joel, The Beatles and The Beach Boys. Self-taught on guitar, piano and vocals, Chris began writing songs and shifted focus from jazz and reggae to rock and pop music, forming his own group, The Sterns, in Boston in 2003. With The Sterns, Chris released 3 full length albums of his own compositions, toured nationally in support of acts such as Meat Puppets, The English Beat, Shadows of Night and The Romantics, was nominated for 2 Boston Music Awards and had a song featured on the best-selling 2008 video game Rock Band II. A Rhode Island native, Chris earned a B.A. in English from the University of Rhode Island in 2014 and plans to pursue a Masters in Education. Meanwhile, he remains active in the Providence and Boston music communities, freelancing as a vocalist, guitarist and saxophonist, fronting a local cover band, and continuing to write, record and perform with his rock band, The Deadly Desert.

One visit to a piano store at age 4 was all it took - Pete knew he needed to play. He began piano lessons and was playing recitals by age 5. Changing gears in elementary school, he learned to play the clarinet and sax in the school band, but things advanced quickly when he picked up guitar and bass at age 12. His fascination with understanding and programming synthesizers led him to Berklee College of Music, where he honed his recording skills by majoring in Production & Engineering. While there, he lived with some incredible musicians and with their help, added drums to his already impressive repertoire.

Peter has done a little bit of everything - he’s played everywhere from weddings to clubs. He’s also a whiz behind the scenes - he has extensive experience in recording studios, and developed technical road experience while touring with bands such as Blue Oyster Cult. One of the biggest thrills of his career was getting to record with one of his favorite bands, The Tubes. He plays locally with many bands, whose styles range from classic rock, top 40, dance, funk, and even a Tool tribute, and he continues to write and record his own music. His love for music is so strong, he feels that it chose him.

Michael 'Bazz' Bazzinotti grew up in Attleboro and is a School of Rock graduate. Michael is a fan of classic rock and listens to bands such as Van Halen, Def Leppard, ACDC, and Ozzy. He loves to play the guitar and keys. Bazz learned to play music throughout his childhood locally from Maconi's Music, White's Music, and Paulette de Oliveira-Kashtan.

At the age of 16, Bazz became one of the original students to enroll at the first School of Rock in New England, located in Watertown, MA. Michael soon discovered that the School of Rock offered things that traditional lessons could not - he got to rehearse with band mates, play shows, and make great friends with other musicians. He formed a band named 'What about Will' with some School of Rock peers and they played across the greater Boston area and Rhode Island for a couple of years until college.

Michael's talent earned him a position in the School of Rock Allstars - a cast of the most talented students across the country, with whom he toured the mid-west and opened for acts like The Dropkick Murphies and Devo. Bazz currently studies Computer Engineering at UMASS Boston, where he has served as Mentor for the Freshman Success Community of Electrical Engineering, and is still very passionate for playing music.

Ben began studying drumming at the age of 8 with Tom Briggs of the US Coast Guard Band. Studying many varied styles of music, by the age of 12 Ben began performing with rock bands locally in his home state of Connecticut. At this time Ben found his love for classic rock through bands like Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, and The Who. Ben also became interested in the guitar and studied at the Thames Valley Music School located on the campus of Connecticut College in New London, Connecticut. By high school, Ben was performing his own original songs in front of his entire school as well as at local clubs in Connecticut. Ben then attended the Steinhardt School of New York University and Loyola University New Orleans where he attained a B.S. in Music Industry Studies with a concentration in jazz percussion and a minor in Music. Ben honed his performing and writing skills on the drum set, as well as the electric, acoustic, and bass guitar. While in college in New Orleans, a famous music city, Ben fronted his own rock band as well as played drums in another, playing gigs most weekends. He also booked several tours with his bands, performing all over the US. Currently some of Ben's favorite bands include Big Star, Matthew Sweet, Teenage Fanclub, and The Replacements. Ben enjoys spreading his love for music through teaching at the School of Rock.

Michaela Therien loves music and has been singing since she was 8 years old. She joined the Voice Studio of John Cottone in 2001 and has performed in an average of two vocal shows per year since then. She has experience with all musical styles, but her favorite style to sing is Broadway. She is familiar with the piano as well, having taken lessons for 3 years. She received her Bachelor of Science in communicative disorders from the University of Rhode Island in 2015. During her undergraduate studies, she learned about a type of speech therapy called, "Melodic Intonation Therapy," which uses vocal strategies such as singing to target certain communicative disorders. Michaela was fascinated by the positive effect that music and singing appeared to have on people who had difficulty speaking.

Drew Townson was born to play guitar. From the time he was about 10 years old, he dreamed of six-string stardom while admiring his heroes Jimi Hendrix, Billy Gibbons, Eric Clapton and Duane Allman. Before too long Drew was playing clubs that he was actually not old enough to be in. Living in North Texas, the tone and twang of Blues and Country sunk into young Drew’s bones, and can clearly be identified in his playing style today. As far as his ax is concerned, Drew fell in love with the sound and feel of the Fender Stratocaster guitar, and in 1980 bought the guitar he still uses now; a 1961 Strat named Daphne Blue. In his 20s, having moved to Boston, Drew was playing on Lansdowne Street and CBGB in New York with his Country-Rock band, House of Joy. HOJ received widespread critical acclaim and their tracks were regularly played on Boston’s WBCN and WFXN radio stations. Going in a more purist direction, by the end of the 80’s Drew founded The Derangers, a band dedicated to playing heavily Texas-influenced instrumentals. Their blend of desert blues, surf rock, and spooky cinematic themes has been coined “The Westermental Sound.” The Derangers are signed to Austin Texas’ Deep Eddy Records and continue to record and perform today. Drew is also an award-winning studio producer/engineer, teacher, artist, and composer. One of his instrumental compositions, “Rio Sangre,” is currently being laid into the soundtrack of a Hollywood feature film entitled “Custody.”

“I don’t just teach kids how to play guitar,” Drew says, “I teach them how to rock guitar!”

Caroline grew up loving music and always wanted to be part of creating it, too. During her middle school years in Dallas, TX, she learned how to play the violin. That led her passion for music to learn bass guitar, acoustic guitar, ukulele, mandolin, and banjo. While learning all of those instruments, she also began songwriting. She was in several short-lived bands during high school, and she was a very dedicated performer and leader for her church's youth worship band for several years. She moved to Austin, TX and earned an associates degree in Music Business and Audio Engineering. While she was pursuing her academic degrees, she also had an opportunity to work as one of the main audio techs at LifeAustin. LifeAustin's pastor is Randy Phillips of the award-winning contemporary Christian music trio, Phillips, Craig, and Dean. Caroline continued her music education by moving to Sydney, Australia for a year, where she earned a Diploma of Music Ministry from Hillsong College. She is very excited to start inspiring a new generation of little rock stars at The School of Rock!!

Testimonials

  • “The staff/team members at School of Rock is amazing. Betsy, my child's vocal teacher has helped bring her out of her shy shell and is now this amazing animated/expressionful, spunky growing young lady. Dave, who runs School of Rock where my child attends, is always so accommodating with last minute class scheduling, etc. He makes you feel that hey life happens, instead of those dreadful phone calls you need to make to reschedule an appointment”
    - May Zaldivia VP of Client Services, Higher Level Education
  • “Thanks for all that you, Kim and your staff do at School of Rock. I'd like to share my appreciation with anyone interested in being a part of the amazing experience at School of Rock. My daughter had asked to take guitar lessons at the age of five. I looked around at traditional lessons, but worried that traditional lessons may be too tedious for a young child. I did not want to dampen a love for music with an approach.that may not have been age appropriate. Then I came across SOR. I loved the philosophy of the appreciation of music, the exposure to multiple instruments, and the socialemotional growth from learning to work together with her new friends during their weekly performances. My daughter loved every minute of her Rookies class and she actually discovered that she really wanted to play the drums instead of guitar! Your School of Rock was the right match at the right time. My daughter is fulfilling her dream of playing an instrument and feels great being part of a rock band! We look forward to continuing to grow with you at School of Rock as she progresses in her music "career".”
