The days of traditional instruction with piles of sheet music are over. At School of Rock The Woodlands, we believe that playing real music is the only path to proficiency and a true appreciation for music.

In Rock 101, students select one instrument to study, and we begin teaching fundamentals: scales, chords, notes, time signatures, and all the rest. Our unique approach to music instruction teaches our students vital fundamentals through songs they know and love, not rote memorization. With real musical context in a fun environment, we give all of our students the knowledge they need to really pursue their passion for music.

The skills and passion for music that our Rookies learn prepares them for Rock 101 and a lifelong love of music.

With exercises, tools and games customized to their age group, our The Woodlands Rookies learn the concepts of music theory, rhythm, pitch, form and dynamics as they play alongside their friends. Laura grew up in Pearland, Tx and has lived in The Woodlands for the past 10 years. She grew up surrounded by music, as her Dad is a musician who tours locally. Acting as Studio Coordinator/Assistant GM prior to becoming the General Manager for The Woodlands school since it opened in 2012, Laura has the privilege of seeing a new student come in with no experience, perhaps quiet and shy, and take their first tour. She then watches them gain confidence, find friends, join a group, learn an instrument and then play a show on stage like a pro. When asked what she loves about School of Rock, she states, 'Everyone can come here and relate through music no matter what.' Motto: The mind is everything. What you think is what you become. Interesting Fact: She loves pumpkin spice everything!

Born in Scotland, moving to Azerbaijan at age 9, and then to America when he was 14, Connor started playing guitar as a convenience to his mother. Since the family would get a discount if both of the Farmer boys enrolled in guitar lessons, Connor went along to give it a try. After a year of classical guitar training, Connor was hooked and went on to learn other styles as well. Although no one else in his family carried on with musical education, he had found his passion. In high school, Connor played in several different bands, playing for school theater productions, local events and Battle of the Bands competitions. A former School of Rock student and now instructor, Connor loves the social interaction and opportunities he has to play music for an audience. He hopes to be a positive example to his students and allow them to grow, both musically and personally, just as he has within the program. 90s Grunge music is what influences Connor. His favorite bands are Alice in Chains, Sound Garden, Pearl Jam and Nirvana. Motto: When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace. '“ Jimi Hendrix Interesting Fact: He enjoys building his own guitars from parts.

Testimonials

  • “The kids are treated as peers, their individuality is respected, the teachers and staff are not only positive mentors but friends too. Kids are accepted and appreciated for who they are and encouraged to grow and stretch their talents. The fact that they're show-ready in as little as 3 months, and PERFORM for a audience in a live concert setting is invaluable, life-changing experience. Behind all of this, are highly educated and experienced teachers who genuinely enjoy what they do.”
    - Diane. Parent, The Woodlands, TX
  • “I like the one on one instruction. Çonnor Farmer has done a great job teaching my son electric guitar. We also like the Saturday program with the emphasis on performing. Playing for a live audience each quarter really gives the kids an opportunity to show all their hard work to friends and family.”

  • “I can't boast enough about SOR! My daughter loves being involved with such a great program. She gets 1:1 attention during her private lesson, and is able to apply what she has learned into a group setting. Being here has given her an appreciation for all types of music, and the instructors create a fantastic learning environment in which she can express herself through playing guitar. The staff is always courteous and understanding of our needs. Laura is amazing anytime we need anything, and she is so willing to help out. It's a seamless transition for us from the front office to the showcase. Thank you SOR!!!”
