Kevin started playing at the age of 13. He was exposed to a wide variety of music, ranging from rock, jazz, funk, mariachi, classical, bossa nova, and everything in between. His knowledge was molded from being on stage. He joined a variety of alternative, pop, and classic rock bands throughout high school. This is where he quickly learned what NOT to do. It was a blessing in disguise. Kevin made it his mission to not only learn how to play multiple instruments, but to learn how to make those instruments sing. He is proficient with guitar, bass, vocals, piano, and drums. In addition to rock music, he is educated in jazz and flamenco. As an intern at Satellite Studios, next to audio engineer Junior Paredes, he learned hands-on the art of recording, as well as how to manipulate, mix and record sound. Kevinwas able to submit one of his songs to an opportunity that got him the attention of a Univision AR who hand selected him to audition for a Spanish Pop Group being put together by Simon Cowell and Ricky Martin (La Banda). Through hard work and dedication, Kevinearned his spot in the top 30 out of 7000+ participants and was able to travel to Miami for the final rounds where long days of vocal training and performances extended his knowledge on what it meant to sing and play fearlessly in front of ruthless crowds and judges. "I truly feel that things have played out in this manner for a much greater purpose than for my own benefit. I know what it's like to be stressed and in a situation where it's hard to see the meaning behind the things that happen, so it makes me comfortable with taking on the role of a teacher or guide and help nurture the musical seed we all have within us. Although I will always be a student, I can help those who have the same yearning and drive to excel as I had in beginning of my journey."

School of Rock Helps Youth Through Love of Music Monday, June 02, 2014 Kiersten KindredView Original Article Here: http://ourtribune.com/article.php?id=16878 Summer is right around the corner and for those looking to get started with a summer program, they may need to look no further. The performance-based music school, School of Rock, is located in Kingwood and prides itself on teaching stage performance as a way to deliver a high-quality music education."It is an incredibly fast way to learn in the most fun environment for students," said Marc Reczek, regional manager and music director. "We focus on team building and setting goals."Programs provided are year round, as well as camps."Our year-round program is set up with two lessons per week, said Reczek; one 45-minute private lesson per week with a professional teacher and musician; one group lesson per week where the students work on the material they have learned in their private lesson. When the students are ready, we perform the material in real rock venues, in front of hundreds of fans, [multiple times in] a year."He said camps are all summer long, as well as in winter and during spring break."They are basically our program crammed into a week, " said Reczek. "We offer extended hours for parents who work and some employers reimburse for child care."At the School of Rock, they not only teach music to youth, but also life education."We teach kids how to be successful in life," said Reczek. "Using music as the education is just one part of this program. We teach them to set goals. We teach them to apply the education. He explained that the students work to get a group together to perform their music."This teaches team building, socializing, accountability and confidence, " said Reczek. "Then we help them set a big goal [performing songs together]. When this process is followed in life, it is the key to success," said Reczek. The core age groups at the school range between 4-18 years old, but the school also has adult programs called Grad School.'The School of Rock is a franchise originating from a private teacher."[The private teacher] decided to get his students in a group and, once he did, he noticed that they were learning quicker and the relationships with each other grew," said Reczek.Dean Tarpley, owner of the Kingwood location, currently owns 15 School of Rock locations and has a goal to open 25-30. The School of Rock has more than 100 locations in North and South America.Pulling from their motto, To inspire the world to rock on stage and in life, the School of Rock prides itself on its involvement with the community."We are very community driven and participate in many functions throughout our area," said Reczek."We provide a community clubhouse for kids that allows them to learn, set goals, [improve] social skills, [seek] community support and [offers] mentoring.""The support we received [from the community] is amazing," said Reczek. "The parents and students recognize the true value of our program being more than just music lessons."In the next 10 years, Reczek hopes for continued growth at the School of Rock."My goal is to constantly improve. That may be more schools, bigger opportunities, harder material, etc. One major goal of mine is to have each teacher make their students realize full potential and challenge themselves," he said.Fun fact about the music school: The popular Jack Black film "School of Rock" was based on the original school. To learn more about the Kingwood School of Rock, visit kingwood.schoolofrock.com.

Testimonials

  • “It is hard to articulate the pride you feel as a parent when you see your kid perform on-stage. As a music teacher for fifteen years, it is easy to say that choosing the Downingtown School of Rock for our fifteen year-old son, was indeed, the best parenting decision we have made yet. ”
    — Susan B., parent, Unionville, PA
  • “When we decided to send our daughter to SOR, we never imagined what a positive impact that one decision would have on her life. She transformed from a shy, quiet kid to a confident, incredible musician, with an active social life and many close friends she considers her second family. The amazing memories she’ll always have of touring and performing with the All-Stars at world-renowned venues and festivals are just icing on the cake. ”
    — Karla D., parent, Unionville, PA
  • “I wish I had School of Rock when I was growing up. ”
    — Nearly Every Parent Who Walks Through Our Doors
  • “School of Rock has been a great community for these kids. It is an alternative to extracurricular activities that a lot of these kids can really fit into where they might feel out of place in other arenas. ”
    — Andrew, parent, San Diego, CA
