About School of Rock San Jose

Welcome to School of Rock San Jose—a haven for aspiring musicians who love rock n’ roll. We believe live performance is the most fun and effective way to teach an instrument, which is why we get kids playing on stage as quickly as possible. Our classes are tailored to all age groups and levels of proficiency, and instructors are passionate about creating a legacy of music by helping students succeed in music and beyond.

We also believe that music is more than a solo act. That’s why School of Rock San Jose teaches kids to play alone and as part of a team. This approach promotes accountability, speeds up the learning process, and fosters an inclusive community of rockers in San Jose. Students are not only learning an instrument—they’re making friends, building confidence, and becoming better people.

Music found me at a young age. Growing up, I followed my dad to his gigs as I would watch him play drums with his bands. I too embraced music and learned the drums at 8 years old. In high school, I felt the need to progress more as a musician after discovering Green Day's "DOOKIE". That band and album changed my world. Music was my calling, and I soon went off to pursue my dreams. At 20 years old, I performed in a show at Great America, called "School Of Rock", based on the movie with Jack Black. Soon after, I got hired into STOMP, an internationally known percussion experience that shouldn't be missed by anyone! I performed nightly at Planet Hollywood resort and casino in Las Vegas. When my contract was done, I moved back to California to keep the dream alive. I've been featured as an actor in many well known music videos for Neon Trees, Taylor Swift, Deadmau5, Lights, David Lynch, Paramore and was featured on a Kevin Nealon stand up show. I've been drumming with a group called Street Drum Corps, which took me on the road in 2008 across the nation on the famous Vans Warped Tour. With Street Drum Corps, I performed live on the Conan O'brien show, along with 30 Seconds To Mars for their album release debut of "This Is War". I've also auditioned in front of Simon, LA Reid, and Brittany Spears on X Factor. My personal band, Pounders, is well known in the Bay Area. I continue to write and play shows with this band along with other side projects that are in the works. I'm very excited to shed light in kids' lives through music, and motivate them to be more than they ever imagined they could be. The best way I can do that is by setting the example. By showing them what hard work can get you, and how rewarding it can be.

Brian grew up in small agricultural town Hollister CA and studied Jazz at San Jose State, but this headbanger-at -heart has finally found himself at home at School of Rock!
Brian's love of the guitar began very young when he would sneak a peek at the beautiful 60's era Fender Jazzmaster that belonged to his dad. In high school, his passion ignited when his first guitar teacher introduced him to such artists as Steve Vai and Ozzy. From then on he had guitar on the brain day and night, and by his senior year, if anyone at school was looking for "that guy that's really good at guitar," they'd be directed to Brian.
If San Jose State had a degree in virtuoso-rock-guitar, that's what he'd have gone for, but he had to settle for Jazz instead. After school he chose to pursue the family life rather than rock stardom, and plays stay-at-home dad to his two wonderful kids. Even so, he's been rocking ever since, and discovered a passion for teaching in the process. Whether he's collaborating with songwriters, performing, or showing somebody how to play a new lick on the guitar, he always finds some way to get his shred on.
His life path has finally led to a school as enamored with rock as he is, and he couldn't be happier than to share this love with the rock-gods of tomorrow!
