Programs

  • School of Rock Norwood/Walpole's Performance Program is all about translating our students' abilities to play in the lesson room to performing for real on stage. Students learn, absorb, and perform iconic hits from some of history's greatest rock and roll performers including The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Van Halen, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin and many more. No matter what they perform, our students will learn incredible skills and enjoy epic experiences that will last a lifetime.

All students in Norwood/Walpole's Performance Program can expect:

    • Weekly private music lessons on guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, and/or vocals

    • Fun, music, and education wrapped into one all-inclusive experience!

  • Our Rock 101 Program at School of Rock Norwood/Walpole is focused on making the first steps of a young student’s journey both fun and successful. The days of mundane music instruction are over. At School of Rock Norwood/Walpole, we believe that playing music together is the only real path to mastering an instrument and developing a true love for music.

In Rock 101, we focus our instruction on the one instrument that students have chosen to study. Whether we’re teaching scales, chords, notes, or time signatures, we put concepts in context so students understand how the principles they learn are applied to real music. Using some of the world’s most famous songs and infusing fun into every chord, Rock 101 allows Norwood/Walpole students to enhance their skills and move on to our Performance Program.

School of Rock Norwood/Walpole’s Rock 101 students can expect:

    • Weekly private music lessons on guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, and/or vocals
    • Weekly group rehearsals to reinforce basic concepts and skills in a band setting
    • A firm grasp of the fundamentals of technique and music theory
    • An understanding of what it means to play solo and in a group

Ed and co-owner Tom Brunelle are excited to bring SOR to the Metro-West the South Shore of Boston! As an active singer in two working bands, Ed keeps himself busy on stages most weekend nights and is excited about spending his days surrounded by music and the chance to pass along his passion to another generation of young rock stars!Ed's passion for music started at a very young age. His family recalls him sitting on the kitchen floor as a two year old, singing songs that his parents sang him to sleep with. At the age of 13 he joined his first band, with co-owner Tom Brunelle. After quitting his individual guitar lessons, Ed used his ear and the help of his bandmates to teach himself how to play guitar....proof that the "playing with peers" strategy really works! As Ed matured, he was playing the local bar and college scene in the Northampton, South Hadley, Springfield, Chicopee area for close to 10 years which allowed him to fine tune his front man skills, while providing him the honor of sharing the stage with bands like The Fools , Joan Jet and The Blackhearts , The Smithereens, The Sighs, and various other Pioneer Valley favorites. In 2009 20010, Ed shared the stage singing backup vocals for Chrysalis and Artemis Recording Artist Jeffrey Gaines on several of his Boston area tour dates . An avid songwriter, Ed has won an honorable mention award in the coveted John Lennon Song Writing Contest . He still continues to write and perform original music in his spare time.

Matt hails from Ohio and developed a keen sense of what it takes to play in a band at an early age. Starting with guitar lessons at 13, he quickly noticed a shortage of bass players and drummers, so he began taking lessons on all three instruments at once! Due to his instrument diversity, he quickly became a sought after performer and played in multiple bands in the Western Ohio area. Matt set his sights on Berklee, and moved to Boston to attend. While here, he joined the band Cerebral which had success in the New England New York areas, opening for acts like Buck Cherry and Powerman 5000. Matt graduated in 2009 with a concentration in bass guitar and a degree in Film Music Composition. In his spare time, he and the former frontman for Cerebral are working on music and other audio tracks for a cartoon in development.

Testimonials

  • “I can’t tell you what an enriching experience this has been for our whole family and especially for Josh. The instructors there were so much more than teachers for Josh, they were his idols and his role models. It has been an amazing time, and I know that as Josh gets older he will look back on all the memories he made at the SOR fondly. You have created something special there, and I hope you understand what an impact your efforts have had on the lives of these children.Thank you for everything! ”
    — Tim Gallagher, Father of School of Rock Denver student
  • “Carlson's time at School of Rock helped her recruit most of her current bandmates. It spurred her to apply to Berklee which, unlike other colleges that offer music majors geared mainly toward classical and jazz, offered the opportunity to train as a well-rounded musician. ”
    — Chelsea Carson, student from Long Valley School of Rock
  • “School of Rock is the best thing we have done for our three children. They learn self-confidence, teamwork, and musicianship in an environment that is safe and free of the typical age-barrier restrictions that are often inherent in other student activities. The youngest and oldest kids in the school work together and everyone is an equal on stage. I wish other youth activities were as welcoming. ”
    — Tony C., parent, Great Valley, PA
  • “School of Rock has helped develop my daughter's self confidence. She just lights up when she is on stage. I just love watching and seeing her growth as a person and as a musician. SOR is her second family. ”
    — Lori H., parent, Downingtown, PA
