About School of Rock Newtown

Welcome to School of Rock Newtown—a haven for aspiring musicians who love rock n’ roll. We believe live performance is the most fun and effective way to teach an instrument, which is why we get kids playing on stage as quickly as possible. Our classes are tailored to all age groups and levels of proficiency, and instructors are passionate about creating a legacy of music by helping students succeed in music and beyond.

We also believe that music is more than a solo act. That’s why School of Rock Newtown teaches kids to play alone and as part of a team. This approach promotes accountability, speeds up the learning process, and fosters an inclusive community of rockers in Newtown. Students are not only learning an instrument—they’re making friends, building confidence, and becoming better people.

Students learn, absorb, and perform iconic hits from some of history's greatest rock and roll performers including The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Van Halen, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin and many more. No matter what they perform, our students will learn incredible skills and enjoy epic experiences that will last a lifetime.

All students in Newtown's Performance Program can expect:

    • Weekly band rehearsal to get students prepared for real shows
    • Real-life performances on stage at amazing venues
    • Advanced instruction in fundamentals such as stage performance, harmonies, musicianship, and more
    • Fun, music, and education wrapped into one all-inclusive experience!

  • Our Rock 101 Program at School of Rock Newtown is focused on making the first steps of a young student’s journey both fun and successful. The days of mundane music instruction are over. At School of Rock Newtown, we believe that playing music together is the only real path to mastering an instrument and developing a true love for music.

In Rock 101, we focus our instruction on the one instrument that students have chosen to study. Whether we’re teaching scales, chords, notes, or time signatures, we put concepts in context so students understand how the principles they learn are applied to real music. Using some of the world’s most famous songs and infusing fun into every chord, Rock 101 allows Newtown students to enhance their skills and move on to our Performance Program.

School of Rock Newtown’s Rock 101 students can expect:

    • Weekly private music lessons on guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, and/or vocals
    • Weekly group rehearsals to reinforce basic concepts and skills in a band setting
    • A firm grasp of the fundamentals of technique and music theory
    • An understanding of what it means to play solo and in a group
    • Real knowledge gained through real fun!

  • School of Rock Newtown’s top students can audition for our most prestigious honor: the School of Rock AllStars Program. Our AllStars represent the best of the best students from School of Rock’s entire global network of schools. With incredible musical aptitude, a knack for teamwork and incredible focus, today’s AllStars truly represent the future of rock and roll.

Each summer, our AllStars embark on an authentic concert tour to perform in jaw-dropping live shows across the country, including Red Rocks, Lollapalooza, Hangout Music Fest, NAMM, Gathering of the Vibes, and countless others. AllStars also get to share the stage with experienced, larger-than-life performers like Alice Cooper, Eddie Vedder, and Slash, to name a few. There is no better way for a star on the rise to get a taste for what professional music is really like.

School of Rock Newtown’s AllStars can expect:

    • Real-world performances where they can shine in their chosen medium: guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, and/or vocals
    • A fast-paced tour experience with stage shows at legendary events and venues
    • To play with the best performers from School of Rock’s global community
    • The opportunity to rock out on stage with world-renowned artists

  • School of Rock Newtown is now enrolling for our Adult Performance Program, where adult students of all proficiency levels can explore and conquer the world of music. We get our students playing and learning at lightning-quick speeds through practical performance rather than run-of-the-mill music instruction programs. At School of Rock Newtown, the thrill of the performance is just as important as learning the skill to rock.

Our adult students learn the fundamentals of music, including scales, chords, notes, progressions, and more, through some of the most iconic songs and sounds in music history. Whether you’re a die-hard fan of rock ‘n roll or a metal-loving head-banger at home in the mosh pit, our teachers know how to best connect your love for music with a passion for learning it.

All students in School of Rock Newtown’s Adult Program can expect:

    • Fast-paced instruction in one of our great musical offerings: guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, and/or vocals
    • Weekly private instruction catered to your goals and level of proficiency
    • Rehearsals with others just like you to get ready for real shows at live music venues
    • An understanding of music theory and technique fundamentals, learned through songs from your favorite music genre
    • Fun, instruction, and a great progression of practical skills wrapped all into one!

  • School of Rock Newtown’s Rookies Program offers a gateway to understanding music for first and second graders. Using proprietary set-ups for guitar, bass, drums and keyboard, as well as other tools, we introduce our Rookies to music fundamentals in a fun way. The skills and passion for music that our Rookies learn prepare them for Rock 101 and a lifelong love of music.

With exercises, tools and games customized to their age group, our Newtown Rookies learn the concepts of music theory, rhythm, pitch, form and dynamics as they play alongside their friends. We encourage our students to explore various instruments and play styles so they begin to understand how individual contributions form a band; even the best solo keyboard players or vocalists need to understand how an ensemble works.

All students in Newtown’s Rookies Program can expect:

    • Weekly group lessons using guitar, bass, keyboard and drums
    • Exposure to essential fundamentals like music theory, pitch and rhythm
    • A focus on teamwork and collaboration
    • An understanding of what it means to play solo and in a group
    • Fun combined with practical learning!

Justin’s first taste of playing music began when he acquired his first cheap Stratocaster knock off at the age of 7. At the age of 10, he was putting together punk rock bands that sang songs about Mountain Dew, skateboarding, and other child-like things. His first performance ever was at 11 years old with this band. A few years later, he found himself involved in his school’s jazz band, as well as attending the Paul Green School of Rock Bucks County (now known as School of Rock Newtown). As a “Rock School” student, Justin was put into the select group of students known as the “Bucks Band” after just two seasons. At the school is where he founded his band of seven years with other fellow School of Rock students, The Mahlors. Upon graduating high school, Justin went to college and pursued a Jazz Performance degree while gigging religiously with his band, and teaching at the Bucks County School of Rock.

Justin spent two years on the road with his band and was fortunate enough to travel the country and perform with bands like The Toasters, Bad Manners, The Supervillains, Ballyhoo!, The Movement, HR of Bad Brains, Andrew W.K., Charli XCX, and many more. While not touring with his reggae/rock outfit, he was practicing jazz and roots music to improve his unique technique.

He now resides in Doylestown, PA, and gigs around the region. He also runs a recording and production company, where he’s blessed to work with aspiring musicians all over the area. But most of all, he is very passionate about teaching and directing at School of Rock Newtown, and has a blast working with the future of rock and roll.

Kieran developed a strong passion for music at a very young age. He began by playing the violin, clarinet, and trumpet in elementary school. During junior high and high school, he participated in Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Band. It was during this time that Kieran started to play guitar in Jazz Band and was soon inspired to join the School of Rock Newtown (formerly Buck County) in 2008. With a growing love for music, Kieran spent the next few years learning all that he could about playing guitar, music theory, and about live performance. During this time he played many season shows and House Band shows at various venues/festivals, and frequently gigged with his original band, Dirty Purple. This band is comprised of all School of Rock Newtown alumni and has self-released two albums. With the band, he traveled to Nashville, TN to study Commercial Music and Guitar Performance at Belmont University. Studying contemporary playing styles and techniques as well as classical guitar methods helped him to shape a new perspective as a guitarist.

Jeff started playing the guitar at the age of 9. It was when he reached the 8 grade that he decided to start his first original band and began performing around the local scene of Doylestown singing, playing guitar, and writing tunes. During this time he would also find himself learning the basics of keyboard, bass, and drums - an effort which was guided by being in the band environment. He often sang in school choirs and was in the select choir his senior year of high school at Central Bucks East. Moving forward he continued to perform with various groups and eventually pursued a music education receiving a Music Associates Degree with a concentration in Jazz Guitar at Bucks County Community College; this is where Jeff developed a strong foundation for music theory knowledge. It was then that he discovered he had an interest in teaching and started giving private guitar lessons. Thereafter, he joined a reggae/ska/punk band and built his skills on the bass guitar whist performing up and down the East Coast. Finishing off his college years, he expanded his subject interests receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology at Temple University while still holding a strong interest in music. To this day he continues to perform, write, and record music. Jeff is very excited to be a part of School of Rock Newtown in helping students improve their skills to become better players/performers/musicians while also having a fun time in the process!

Bogi began taking drum lessons at the age of 11 after being asked to be the drummer for his older brother's band "The Arrowheads". While their band didn't last for very long, Bogi's love of drumming did, and he has been performing at venues regularly with various other acts and groups ever since.

Bogi started his musical career at the School of Rock first as a student in 2008, and he has come back to continue his involvement as a teacher simply because of how much he loved the program. The School of Rock to Bogi was more than just a place to learn music, but almost a second home where he could spend time with the teachers and fellow students in the school's house band who he came to view as some of his closest friends.

The shows that he performed in gave him a sense of confidence and happiness that he hadn't felt before, and it encouraged him to take a more active role in other fields as well, such as his high school symphonic band, jazz band, and even the pit orchestra for the theater group. He also restarted his old band with his brother and a few other School of Rock students, though they changed their name to "The Black Hand Gang" this time around. This group would last for much longer, playing together long enough to perform at quite a few events and even release a full length album before splitting apart to different colleges.

While Bogi initially joined the School of Rock for his love of rock bands like Led Zeppelin, Green Day, Rush, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers, the various shows and programs that the school offered helped to broaden his musical tastes ovet the years and teach him to appreciate other genres as well, such as funk, reggae, hip-hop, metal, jazz, and much more. This diverse taste in music is what influences his drumming style in his current rock-fusion band "Kingfisher", which plays shows year-round in the Philadelphia area. After developing a strong fanbase in the Temple house show scene, Kingfisher has since found success playing various venues in the city (World Cafe, The Fire, Bourbon and Branch, Milkboy, and Creep Records just to name a few) and even festivals outside of PA like the Elephant Talks Music Festival in New Jersey and the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas.

Throughout the years Bogi has performed at countless music venues along the East Coast with various diffrrent groups, and he has loved every minute of it. While performing is his true passion, he also has a deep love of learning and sharing new information about drumming with his fellow musicians, and it is this love that pushes him to be the best educator that he can be for his students.

Dave has been playing piano for as long as he can remember. He began taking piano lessons at the age of 7 and was classically trained for over 10 years; he also studied music theory in high school and college. While in school, he played clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, and piano in various orchestral and jazz groups as well as singing in several chorus and musical theatre ensembles.

In 2004, Dave joined the (then) School of Rock Bucks County as one of its first members and was part of its first show. Along with his older sister Rosalie, he attended School of Rock for 7 years, performing many shows as a keyboard player, saxophone player, singer, and (briefly) guitarist.

In 2005, Dave was selected to join the School of Rock All-Stars at the age of 12. During his 6 years playing with the All-Star program, he had the opportunity to perform on several tours of the US as well as a handful of shows internationally. These performances included events such as Lollapalooza, the Zappanale music festival in Germany, Hangout Music Festival, NAMM, Gathering of the Vibes, and a televised performance for VH1's Sober House. He has also had the chance to play with musicians like Jon Anderson, Napoleon Murphy Brock, Perry Farrell, LeAnn Rimes, and Adrian Belew, among others.

Dave has been teaching keyboards at School of Rock for several years, also working as a keyboard instructor at School of Rock Downingtown. He is excited to work with the team at Newtown and he is looking forward to helping students have the same experiences that made School of Rock such a life-changing program for him.

Testimonials

  • “My son and 2 nieces have been going to this SOR for many years...it's like home...like one family. Being a part of a School of Rock family is unlike anything you have ever experienced. There is nothing like seeing your kid up there showing you and themselves what they can do! It's nothing short of miraculous....the instructors and musical directors are first rate. ”
    — Karen Hoyt Johnston, Warminster, PA
  • “Grew up at school of rock....it felt like a family back when i was there and i loved every minute of it. I would do it over and over again if i had the chance! ”
    — Evan Scorpio, Newtown, PA
  • “School of Rock. The best music school anywhere. This whole idea of getting kids not just taking lessons and learning notes and chords, but learning songs and playing with other young musicians, and getting out on stage… I was so impressed that my daughter Cheyenne goes to School of Rock on Long Island. ”
    — Dee Snider, Twisted Sister
  • “Our son explored many other extra-curricular activities prior to SOR, and no other activity was able to keep his interest. He has been challenged with new material, gained a foundation in theory and songwriting, as well as learned how to work in a group with other students to put on phenomenal rock 'n roll concerts in real" concert venues." ”
