Marc's musical journey began at age 11 when he agreed to play drums with a band performing Deep Purple's Smoke on the Water live in front of his entire school. The only problem was - he had never even held drumsticks in his hands! He pulled it off on sheer will and was hooked for life. From there he went on to play drums, keys, and sing lead vocals with multiple rock bands, where he performed countless shows accross the Southeast. His career includes time as the frontman for the original line up of alternative rock band Dust for Life. With DFL he recorded an album at Powerhouse Studios which went on to gain top rotation on rock radio, and he and DFL performed and shared the bill on a regular basis with powerhouse acts such as Saliva, King's X, and Drivin N Cryin to name a few.Marc is a graduate of Memphis University School and went on to earn a BA in Business Management from Southern Methodist University. He owned and operated a successful multi-unit golf retail business. However, the passion for music never faded, and School of Rock popped up on Marc's radar once he began to explore selling the golf business. As a father of three, Marc immediately understood the mission of SoR, "Inspiring kids to rock...on stage and in life." It quickly became evident that Marc's unique combination of business and music experience made him the perfect fit to own and run a School of Rock. So in 2012 he joined the School of Rock family and he was lucky enough to do it in the birthplace of rock 'n' roll - Memphis.Marc is still active as a musician performing lead vocals for the rock cover band, Secondfloor Saints, but running the School of Rock Memphis is truly his dream job. "I am so excited to bring the School of Rock to Memphis. If you want your kids to learn music, then they need to play music. The same way you learn a language by speaking the language. SoR removes the shackles and isolated nature of traditional instruction and places the student in an environment where he/she is free to speak the language of music along with others who are following their own path. This is exactly how my musical journey began over 30 years ago, and I can't tell you how excited I am to bring this concept to kids in my own hometown - where music is in our blood."

G is a music fanatic, who was inspired early on to pursue a career following his passion. As the bassist/lead vocalist of SPACEMAN, he has enjoyed many years of playing shows and recording original songs. The cosmic power trio plan to release a SPACEMAN cd in the near future... G also was a founding member and bassist of the band, Dust for Life, with SoR owner/GM Marc Gurley on lead vocals! This friendship and working relationship has led to another cool creative project called EDGEWISE as well as opening SoR Memphis! G also has played the cover band circuit extensively on guitar/vocals with Clever Medicine, The Living Daylights, and several other bands and acoustic acts as well as the occasional theater gig! As a guitar, bass and drum instructor, G has enjoyed teaching students of all ages how to play and have fun as they learn their craft for over 15 years. Landon has performed with local bands such as Ingram Hill, Rusty Lemon, This Is Goodbye, Fast Planet, Jeremy Stanfill, Craig Davis, Eric Gales and many others. He has also performed with members of such bands as The Black Crowes, Better Than Ezra, North Mississippi Allstars, Galactic, Shinedown and Saving Abel. Laramie was born and raised on the West Coast, her father a musician and worship pastor. Though she was around music regularly, Laramie seriously pursued a career in professional ballet. After her family moved to Chicago in 2007, she joined The Academy of Dance Arts— later to become an apprentice for the Illinois Ballet Theatre. After two years in Chicago and a vertebral injury, Laramie felt the pull towards music, so she put the dance arts behind and began pursuing music.

After moving to Memphis to study music in 2011, Laramie has now toured the U.S. with a rock band on the record label Madison Line Records; written and self-released her own EP titled The Good Men; played in many well-known venues in Memphis, and acquired a Bachelor’s in Modern Music Ministry, with an emphasis in vocals. The range of genre’s that Laramie is well-versed in include not only Rock, but Jazz, country, R&B, and any ballad that presents a challenge. Performance is a huge part of her world as a vocalist, sitting even with the importance of technique and vocal quality.

Laramie is currently in the process of producing another self-released album, which will be making it’s entry in the coming year, under the wisdom and guidance of Stuart Epps (Elton John, Led Zeppelin, Twisted Sister, Fleetwood Mac, etc.). She is excited to be a part of the School Of Rock family, teaching vocals and performance, as well as pouring into Memphis’ young artists

Josh's passion for music began at the age of thirteen. He was sitting in a gospel church and became fascinated with the guitar. From that moment, Josh knew he wanted to learn everything he could about this instrument. In doing so, guitar has led him to play for many worship teams, meeting different musicians, and even to Visible Music College, where he attained a bachelor's degree in music. His many hours of practice and determination have led him to record and tour with a band, become music director at Life Fellowship Church in northern Mississippi, and teach future guitarists to also chase after their dreams. It is with these accomplishments Josh has gained expertise, professionalism, and confidence as a guitar player. Currently, he continues to play for various artists in the Memphis area, write his own music, and enjoys being a part of the School of Rock family.

Naø was born and raised in a rock n' roll family in St. Louis, Missouri. She has been in Memphis for the past 3 years studying at Visible Music College, working toward a bachelor's in songwriting, with a vocal emphasis. She started playing guitar in sixth grade, and picked up bass and piano along the way. Growing up with a headbangin' dad, music was an inevitable piece of her life. His guitar skills inspired her music and he is now an audio engineer, recording and producing her latest EP. She played in a youth worship band for 7 years, leading for 3 of those. She is currently playing guitar for a worship team at the Kroc Church, and is the lead vocalist in a local hard rock/metal band, Eleutheria. Eleutheria plays locally with other hardcore bands in the area, and also pick up the occasional worship event. Their vision is to be a voice that speaks freedom, through music and through message. The music is heavy and the message is passionate, all to make the connection we crave as artists. From sweet melodies to wailing high notes to brutal screaming, Naø loves exploring every angle of proper vocal technique. Her main instructors include Charlee Graham and Dr. Ashley Keith Davis. She will never stop learning and never stop exploring the potential in her own voice, as well as encouraging the potential in others' music. Rock and Roll is the foundation she's built her love of music on, and will forever be her heartbeat.

Testimonials

  • “My daughter took music lessons for over 3 years. Only after we switched to School of Rock did the true passion for playing come out. She now practices without being prodded, and is challenged to do even better after her stage performance in the band! Wish we had joined sooner!”
    — Sharad & Nishita Agarwal, parents School of Rock Memphis
  • “Our son, whose instruments have included keys, guitar, and last but not least vocals, has been with School of Rock Memphis since January 2013 and absolutely loves it. He is constantly singing wherever he goes. We have seen much improvement in his vocal abilities as well as his stage presence. He seems extremely confident on stage! Whenever a season is over, he is ready to start rehearsing for the new shows. I appreciate that SOR teaches theory, reading music, and other fundamentals in a more interesting and fun manner - not the way I learned how to play piano. I know our son likes being there not only to learn music, but also because of the relationships he has developed with other kids as well as his instructors. Oh yeah, we can't forget the awesome shows these talented kids put on and the world class venues at which they perform! Thanks SOR Memphis! ”
    — Jamie & Tracy Brummer, parents School of Rock Memphis
  • “I cannot even begin to fully convey how much of an impact the School of Rock program has had on our child since joining. Less than a year ago, our teenage son was very withdrawn, shy and despondent. He struggled in social settings and had very low self-esteem. Now he has finally found something to be passionate about… something that makes him want to jump out of the bed in the mornings, excited about what’s ahead. This program has given him that much needed self-confidence to come out of his shell, make friends and enjoy life. It has truly been a blessing to watch our son discover his passion and develop his talent for playing music. School of Rock has been a godsend!! ”
    — Amanda Mora, parent School of Rock Memphis
  • “Olivia has become more skilled musically and socially over the past two years at School of Rock. Her instructors are so talented and challenge her to be her best and to give her all in what she does. I've seen her grow more confident in her performing and more creative in her song-writing. The School of Rock community is a positive, encouraging environment that revs up the learning process by making it fun and exciting. ”
