Not having been born into a particularly musical family, and growing up in the rural Texas town of

Sulphur Springs, presented School of Rock Fort Worth & School of Rock Mansfield General

Manager/Music Director Andrew Sudderth with obvious challenges when it came to the realm of music

discovery. This meant he had to seek it out for himself, and this was before the internet kids! Andrew

took guitar lessons on and off throughout intermediate and secondary schooling in addition to taking

advantage of school provided choral programs. Later in high school Andrew formed progressive hard

rock band Fair to Midland which, not long after, came to be one of Dallas’ biggest drawing local acts

resulting in catching the eyes and ears of the national and international music community. Fair to

Midland eventually signed with Universal Records for their first international release and later with

      EOne for their second.

Andrew worked under Grammy award winning producer David Bottrill (King Crimson, Peter Gabriel,

Tool, Muse) during the making of Fair to Midland’s first record and later under Grammy award winner

Joe Baressi (Queens of the Stone Age, Bad Religion, Melvins) for Fair to Midland’s sophomore effort.

Andrew also earned co-production credits on the group’s sophomore album. It was also during the

making of Fair to Midland’s first record Andrew trained under World renowned vocal instructor Ron

Anderson; famous for having worked with the likes of Ozzy Osbourne, Chris Cornell, Axl Rose, Alicia

Keys, Bjork, and many many more.

Throughout both record cycles Fair to Midland not only played a number of prestigious festivals (i.e.

Coachella, Download, Rock Am Ring/Rock Am Park), but also played with everyone from The Smashing

Pumpkins, Alice in Chains, and Tool to Amy Winehouse (oddly enough) and System of a Down.

Andrew continues to write music recreationally when he is not randomly trolling School of Rock

hallways comically yelling at children and ruining his body w/ synthetic caffeine and bad eating habits.

Nick Tittle began belting out his jazzy feel-good tunes under the wing of Fort Worth local legend Scott Copeland. Starting back in 2010, Nick would rehearse on an empty stage after closing time and without an audience at the Thirsty Armadillo in the Historic Fort Worth Stockyards. This melodic pioneer fed off of musicians like Ray LaMontagne, Alice in Chains, and Otis Redding. Since then, he has created his own unique style that is now taking him to stages in front of audiences all over Texas. His debut album - titled appropriately, 'Screaming for Candy Art' - hit the shelves in 2013. The tracks blast altruistic original euphonies that are a refreshing addition to the Texas music scene. He is now the lead singer/rhythm guitar player for Fort Worth band Arenda Light.

Josh Banks began paving his musical road at age 13, jamming with his older peers in a garage, being as loud as possible. After drumming in a handful of metal projects, Josh (who usually goes by Banks) began to soften his playing which in turn only tightened his skills. He then dabbled in the styles of blues, funk, soul, and jazz in order to round out his music and drum knowledge. Today, he plays drums for Fort Worth's own, Arenda Light as well as writes and records his own music, metal and folk alike.

Bobby T plays heavy metal in the tradition and style of a few guitar gods that came before him. He is steadily working on refining his vision instead of following trends. Bobby has toured
Europe as well as the states, and was in several magazines including Guitar Player and Metal Hammer, with his former band Warbeast. His journey began at age 5 when he met Gene Simmons in the small West Texas town of San Angelo. A few years later, at age 11, he picked up the guitar and has not put it down since. In 20's Bobby was mentored by his friend, and guitar hero, Dimebag Darrell. Bobby continues to play locally in the DFW area with his band KFM and is as much of a fan as he is a performer. He believes that the teaching and discovery of all styles is essential to becoming a well rounded musician.

"I find that the true way to succeed is to push your own envelope and not settle, but keep an open mind while doing so.:

Photo courtesy of School of Rock - Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue visits with students from the School of Rock in Dallas. The school's season showcase will take place from noon to 4 p.m. this Saturday at Club Dada, 2720 Elm St., in Dallas. By Kenny Green, kgreen@starlocalnews.com Published: Tuesday, September 17, 2013 2:27 PM CDT Rock music has long been a staple of American culture. The School of Rock is helping pass its legacy on to the next generation through its unique instruction format. "We don't teach music lessons the traditional way," said Dean Tarpley, Dallas School of Rock co-owner. "In the old world of teaching music, you would sit a kid in a room and give them instruction. We don't believe in that method. We are all about a nontraditional approach to teaching music." As part of the learning experience at the School of Rock, each student is assigned to a group and each group focuses on a specific artist or genre of music. They rehearse the music together in preparation for their exam, which consists of a live performance at one of many venues around the Metroplex. "I often compare the School of Rock to sports. A lot of people quit music because it wasn't fun for them. Imagine in sports if you went to take a lesson and all you did was sit in a class, then had to go home and practice alone. If that was the way it was done, a lot of kids would not stick with sports," said Terry Longhway, Dallas School of Rock co-owner. The school will often bring in guest professors to help give the students a sense of what they can expect if they continue to pursue music as a career. "The guest professors are intended to be a fun and unique experience for the kids. They are real musicians that have gone into the industry and made it," Longhway said. Each of the school's live performances has a theme to it. Longhway said the next Dallas School of Rock performance will be from noon to 6 p.m. on Sept. 21 at Club Dada, 2720 Elm St. The show will be split into two sessions; from noon to 4 p.m. , some of the less-experienced artists will perform, and from 4 to 6 p.m. the concert will feature some of the more advanced musicians from the school as part of its Dean's List showcase. "The Dean's List is something the kids audition to be part of. They will do a variety of different types of music. A lot of their music will be a little more challenging and wide spectrum of music," Longhway said. School of Rock has several locations in the Metroplex including Dallas, Frisco, Fort Worth, Keller, McKinney and Southlake. Another location is scheduled to open in Flower Mound on Sept. 21 . For a complete list of school locations and events, visit dallas.schoolofrock.com . "We try and bring fun and happiness into the communities. We play a lot at different schools and other events. These performances allow us to show the community the really great attitudes of these kids," Longhway said. Tarpley and Longhway decided to open a holding company to manage, operate and acquire several School of Rock locations after working together as consultants over a 10-year period. They opened their first location in Rochester, Mich., and decided to form the holding company to allow them to open additional franchise locations. They want to open an artist-development company in the near future to help their students learn how to make the right choices when dealing with agents and producers within the business."That part of the industry is just a completely different business," Tarpley said.

The SoR experience creates not only rock stars on stage, but it transfers into other areas of the kids lives as well! ”
    — Rocker Mom, Salt Lake City, UT
  • “You are transforming my child into someone who knows that she "can." She doesn't hope for the "I can" anymore - she KNOWS she can now. Our daughter is learning how to come out of herself, take risks, close her eyes and just fly. We are so grateful. More than you can ever know. ”
