The days of traditional instruction with piles of sheet music are over. At School of Rock Main Line, we believe that playing real music is the only path to proficiency and a true appreciation for music.

In Rock 101, students select one instrument to study, and we begin teaching fundamentals: scales, chords, notes, time signatures, and all the rest. Our unique approach to music instruction teaches our students vital fundamentals through songs they know and love, not rote memorization. With real musical context in a fun environment, we give all of our students the knowledge they need to really pursue their passion for music.

At School of Rock Main Line, the thrill of the performance is just as important as learning the skill to rock.

Our adult students learn the fundamentals of music, including scales, chords, notes, progressions, and more, through some of the most iconic songs and sounds in music history. Whether you’re a die-hard fan of rock ‘n roll or a metal-loving head-banger at home in the mosh pit, our teachers know how to best connect your love for music with a passion for learning it.

    • Fun, instruction, and a great progression of practical skills wrapped all into one!

  • School of Rock Main Line’s Rookies Program offers a gateway to understanding music for first and second graders. Using proprietary set-ups for guitar, bass, drums and keyboard, as well as other tools, we introduce our Rookies to music fundamentals in a fun way. The skills and passion for music that our Rookies learn prepares them for Rock 101 and a lifelong love of music.

With exercises, tools and games customized to their age group, our (geomodifer) Rookies learn the concepts of music theory, rhythm, pitch, form and dynamics as they play alongside their friends. We encourage our students to explore various instruments and play styles so they begin to understand how individual contributions form a band; even the best solo keyboard players or vocalists need to understand how an ensemble works.

All students in Main Line’s Rookies Program can expect:

    • Weekly group lessons using guitar, bass, keyboard and drums
    • Exposure to essential fundamentals like music theory, pitch and rhythm
    • A focus on teamwork and collaboration
    • An understanding of what it means to play solo and in a group
    • Fun combined with practical learning!

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Ian, a New Jersey native, comes to the School of Rock bringing with him many years of rock guitar 'gunslinging' experience. As a self taught guitarist he began his learning by playing along with his cassette tapes at the age of 12 to groups such as Guns 'N Roses, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Metallica, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn and many others. With the help of his cassetes and many guitar magazines he learned the basics of his instrument and practiced relentlessly. At age 14 he began giving private guitar lessons after school. Upon highschool graduation Ian decided to head to college and set his guitar down and focus on his studies as an Economics major at Utah State University. It wasn't long before Ian found himself spending all free time playing his guitar and marveling at how great the natural reverb of his dorm room aptartments bathroom was with an amp roaring in the tub. Upon his return to New Jersey Ian set out to find others who wanted to make a go if it in the world of modern Rock 'N Roll. He played in many east coast original rock acts such as FailsafeNation, Hydrus, Handful of Dust, Fur, and a very brief stint with a cover band. Over those years Ian had learned the basics of performing and working with numerous musicians of all varying 'Rock' genres. In the summer of 2005 Ian received an invite to meet with Chicago based rock band Royal who were in need of a guitarist/songwriter. Ian got the gig and moved to the windy city. Over the course of the following year new material was written and tracked for Warner Bros. at the famous Groove Master Studio with grammy nominated producer Johnny K. (Disturbed, Alkaline Trio, Finger Eleven, etc.) Due to internal strife and differnces with management the band imploded. Ian decided to head back to the east coast and regroup. In that interim a close friend and former singer of a band in New York had co-written a film about Rock 'N Roll that had been picked up was going to be made and Ian was asked play a role in the film. It was after this experience that Ian first set out to start writing songs on his own without a band. Tracking at home his first 'solo' batch. That batch of songs largely became the first Star Killer EP and North American Tour in support of electro rockers Combichrist. Ian continues to work with Star Killer in New York and has begun work on a new rock project in Philadelphia, PA. Ians teaching style comes from years of learning, performing, and being the hired 'gun' in other peoples projects around the US. Those years have helped him to find his own way of writing, performing, and teaching Rock 'N Roll.

Testimonials

  • “I can’t tell you what an enriching experience this has been for our whole family and especially for Josh. The instructors there were so much more than teachers for Josh, they were his idols and his role models. It has been an amazing time, and I know that as Josh gets older he will look back on all the memories he made at the SOR fondly. You have created something special there, and I hope you understand what an impact your efforts have had on the lives of these children.Thank you for everything! ”
    — Tim Gallagher, Father of School of Rock Denver student
  • “Carlson's time at School of Rock helped her recruit most of her current bandmates. It spurred her to apply to Berklee which, unlike other colleges that offer music majors geared mainly toward classical and jazz, offered the opportunity to train as a well-rounded musician. ”
    — Chelsea Carson, student from Long Valley School of Rock
  • “School of Rock is the best thing we have done for our three children. They learn self-confidence, teamwork, and musicianship in an environment that is safe and free of the typical age-barrier restrictions that are often inherent in other student activities. The youngest and oldest kids in the school work together and everyone is an equal on stage. I wish other youth activities were as welcoming. ”
    — Tony C., parent, Great Valley, PA
  • “School of Rock has helped develop my daughter's self confidence. She just lights up when she is on stage. I just love watching and seeing her growth as a person and as a musician. SOR is her second family. ”
    — Lori H., parent, Downingtown, PA
