Pat starting playing guitar at the age of 5, inspired by the Gene Simmons' KISS solo record. His first guitar was a tennis racquet. His second guitar was made out of cardboard, using yarn for the guitar strap, and colored with Crayola markers. His first real guitar was a Yamaha nylon string 3/4 size. Totally an instrument of rock (sarcasm). Many years, many guitars, and many lessons later he attended Berklee College of Music in Boston. Pat played professionally throughout Northwest Missouri with the band Furley (yep, Don Knotts), and worked in the radio industry at KY-102 (Kansas City), 95.3 WAOR (South Bend, IN), and PYX 106 (Albany, NY). In 2004, he opened Funky Munky Music in Shawnee, KS. He sold that in 2012, and is now scalloping his fretboard in the world of School of Rock !

LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. '” The School of Rock has expanded and now welcomes even more young rockers to experience jam sessions and concerts. For years, the Parkville location was the only location in the metro, but now two more schools have been added in Lee's Summit and Overland Park. 'No kid ever decided he wanted to play guitar, keyboard or drums or whatever because he wanted to sit at the end of his bed and play. That kid wants to play on stage,' said Pat Redd, School of Rock general manager. The Lee's Summit location opened in November and the one in Overland Park should be ready to open by spring. Watch FOX 4 Kerri Stowell's report on one of the kids who enrolled right away. Watch the video by clicking here.

Testimonials

  • “I can’t tell you what an enriching experience this has been for our whole family and especially for Josh. The instructors there were so much more than teachers for Josh, they were his idols and his role models. It has been an amazing time, and I know that as Josh gets older he will look back on all the memories he made at the SOR fondly. You have created something special there, and I hope you understand what an impact your efforts have had on the lives of these children.Thank you for everything! ”
    — Tim Gallagher, Father of School of Rock Denver student
  • “Carlson's time at School of Rock helped her recruit most of her current bandmates. It spurred her to apply to Berklee which, unlike other colleges that offer music majors geared mainly toward classical and jazz, offered the opportunity to train as a well-rounded musician. ”
    — Chelsea Carson, student from Long Valley School of Rock
  • “School of Rock is the best thing we have done for our three children. They learn self-confidence, teamwork, and musicianship in an environment that is safe and free of the typical age-barrier restrictions that are often inherent in other student activities. The youngest and oldest kids in the school work together and everyone is an equal on stage. I wish other youth activities were as welcoming. ”
    — Tony C., parent, Great Valley, PA
  • “School of Rock has helped develop my daughter's self confidence. She just lights up when she is on stage. I just love watching and seeing her growth as a person and as a musician. SOR is her second family. ”
    — Lori H., parent, Downingtown, PA
