Evan joined the original Paul Green School of Rock Music in Philadelphia, PA, as a student in 2002. After playing drums with the house band for two years, he hit the road with the AllStars for another two years, travelling throughout the country and sharing the stage with Jon Anderson (Yes) and Adrian Belew (King Crimson). When his parents opened a School of Rock franchise in Bucks County, PA, Evan pitched in, teaching drum lessons and helping with shows. Before long he was directing shows and had a slew of students. Evan now resides in Kansas City, MO.

Alyssa (pronounced Uh-Lee-Shuh, we know, we know, "whhhhaaaa?") can now say she’s from Missouri after living here for 8 years, but she did not grow up here. As a military brat, Alyssa traveled the world, living in countries such as Panama, England and South Korea. Throughout her High School career she was very involved in theater, and even received a scholarship for Missoula’s Children's Theater Camp 3 years in a row! She loves to sing, and can be heard singing made up songs around the house to her animals (something along the lines of, “oh Charlie, you’re my boo, I love you every day, and that's the truth!”). Yes- her fiancee rolls his eyes frequently. She loves movies, live concerts, and has an unhealthy addiction to Cherry Coke. She also does some freelance photography on the side.

Known for my highly expressed interest in hard rock and heavy metal, I was nicknamed Rockin' Ryan in High School (even in my yearbook!). When I was 16 I bought my first electric guitar, started taking lessons from a well know instructor in KC and never looked back. Bands like Kiss, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Tesla, Guns-n-Roses, Ozzy and Soundgarden were huge influences. I played live in the KC area for 15 years - mostly original rock bands, a couple of cover bands and even crossed genres for 3 years in a country band. In 2004 I started teaching guitar after being inspired by a DVD I rented called "Rock School". Little did I know that, years later, this would become a franchise called The School of Rock!

In my spare time I write/record/produce my own rock instrumentals and I signed my first Exclusive License Agreement with a music library for TV/Film/Commercials in 2015. I released my first solo EP in 2016. I'm currently writing new material for another EP and excited to be instructing and inspiring students at the School of Rock in Lee's Summit!

He might also be listening to the soothing sounds of ACDC, Soundgarden or Rage Against the Machine, too! Some of his favorites pastimes include chowing down on Sour Punch candy, and he has an unbridled love for vegemite. While Thomas gravitates more towards bluesy types of guitar playing, you might be surprised to know he can rock some metal!

Starting at the wee age of 8, Mark first discovered his love for performing and listening to music while attending a school presentation that was trying to influence kids to join the school band. He started playing Saxophone and learned the fundamentals of music until he was 12, at which point he turned his eye to the guitar.

He began by taking lessons from local teachers until he finally enrolled into a local music academy and studied under a man named Richard Wiley, who helped him open up some of the many doors the guitar holds. He then moved on from his friends basements and started playing with local bands around town, performing anywhere from local bars and clubs, to private events and parties, trying to gain as much live experience as he could.

After graduating high school he then attended the Indiana University of Pennsylvania as a music performance major. He studied classical guitar under Irving Kauffman, cellist of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, as well as theory and ear training. He also played with many local bands in the area and played for college events, such as the "Pre-Exam Jam," where he opened for bands such as the Black Eyed Peas and Rusted Root. After 2 years of extensive studies, he decided to set his sights at the Berklee College of Music, where he studied various forms of music such as jazz, blues, rock, and funk under musical greats like Dan Bowden and Bruce Katz.

During his stay at Berklee, he discovered his love and talent for writing and performing his own music and also discovered his love for teaching. He started by hanging flyers around the city and teaching people in their homes. He found great joy from passing down the knowledge that was given to him and helping people love and understand music. After 4 years, he received his Bachelor's Degree in Professional Music from Berklee and currently performs, writes, and records for multiple bands.

A transport from Utah, I started playing bass in 5th grade. From there on out, I started performing in various ensembles such as orchestra, jazz band, symphonic band, pit orchestras for musicals and many others. I eventually found my way to my local School of Rock and dove straight in, only to become a 3 time All-Star that evolved into a bass instructor. I’ve performed a ton of shows around my native Utah and have ventured further out to notable venues such as Red Rocks Amphitheater in Boulder, Colorado, The Echo in LA, Hard Rock in Las Vegas and the NAMM show twice, as well as performing on live TV. I’ve been inspired by such legends as Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Beck), John Stirratt (Wilco), James Jamerson (Motown), Roger Waters (Pink Floyd), Michael League (Snarky Puppy) and I hope to inspire a brand new generation of musicians.

LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. '” The School of Rock has expanded and now welcomes even more young rockers to experience jam sessions and concerts. For years, the Parkville location was the only location in the metro, but now two more schools have been added in Lee's Summit and Overland Park. 'No kid ever decided he wanted to play guitar, keyboard or drums or whatever because he wanted to sit at the end of his bed and play. That kid wants to play on stage,' said Pat Redd, School of Rock general manager. The Lee's Summit location opened in November and the one in Overland Park should be ready to open by spring. Watch FOX 4 Kerri Stowell's report on one of the kids who enrolled right away. Watch the video by clicking here.Read less

Testimonials

  • “The School of Rock encompasses so many aspects that are crucial for students in their youth to develop. Learning and developing skills in an exciting and safe environment and having social interaction with their peers. The love of Rock Music and socializing is something kids don't get from an academic education nowadays and I think that truly fosters self-confidence. ”
    — Jeanne Schwab, Mother of School of Rock Lee's Summit student
  • “It's all about the kids ! The program provides a positive place for kids to grow with like minded kids who want to Rock , gets them out of the basement or garage and develops self esteem , confidence and life changing friendships ! The music is a backdrop for the benefits the kids gain from this experience . ”
    — David O'Brien, Father of School of Rock Lee's Summit student
  • “My son waking ME up to go to school for the first time ever ”
    — Lynetta McRoy, Mother of the School of Rock Lee's Summit student
  • “My daughter loves being able to choose some of the music that she learns to play. She is going on her second year of drum lessons and her confidence has grown exponentially. Over the summer she participated in two camps and even sang lead vocals on two songs. This gave her the boost needed to try out for her school concert choir and she made it! Watching her practice at home is so fun. Her growth has been fun to witness and this is because of School of Rock. ”
    — Sara Mayes, Mother of School of Rock Lee's Summit student
