Rehearsals start 9/27. The Smiths became one of the most influential bands of all time by mixing the lush guitar matrices of Johnny Marr with the swooning vocals of Morrissey – a poet whose delicate singing made most other British frontmen of the Eighties seem utterly normal (and boring) Contrast that with The Cure, with their distinctive mope-rock sound — a mix of self-obsessed lyrics, minor-key melodies, and Robert Smith's pale vocal whine — the Cure rose from Britain's post punk scene to become one of the most popular U.K. bands of the Eighties. Be prepared to learn innovative guitar parts, challenging bass lines and super fun drum chops for this special show. If you don't know who these bands are then go do yourself a favor and give them a listen! The songs sound "easy", but this will be another super challenging but rewarding show.

Kathy Graf is grateful to be a part of School of Rock and is excited about the opportunity to support the school in Lake Oswego. She has degrees in History and Dance from Virginia Commonwealth University and was a modern dancer for 10 years, teaching briefly as an adjunct at Rowan University in NJ. Aside from going to DC punk rock shows in the late 80's, her only connection to rock music was as a member of Paule Turner's company "court", performing as the character Love in the original rock opera "Medea, Love is the Devil". She has been an administrative assistant since college, and spent 10 years supporting the Global Risk Management Dept. with ARAMARK. She hopes to learn how to play drums and, in 10 years, master "I Against I" by the Bad Brains.

Miaya Shambry may be young but has a voice and a presence that is beyond her years. Music has always been a way for Shambry to escape from the trials and tribulations that is life. At age thirteen Shambry was introduced to the art of music in her after school music program, where she picked up the guitar and did some light singing. It wasn't until age 16 when Shambry joined the Portland, Oregon School of Rock, where she really took charge and became a force to be reckoned with. While a student of the school, she toured across the US three times and performed with the likes of Nick Harmer (Death Cab for Cutie), Jon Anderson (Yes) and many others. After her education at the School of Rock, Shambry joined the nationally known Led Zeppelin cover group, Zepperella, in San Francisco. In 2012, Shambry moved back home to join Portland's thriving music scene and make a name of her own. Throughout the years Shambry has remained passionate about her music and is currently fronting the 5-piece blues group 'Hip stew Blues Review'.

Tuff Gong Worldwide is proud to present 1 World Chorus: Celebrating Bob Marley. Children from Lake Oswego School of Rock, Seattle, New York, Los Angeles, Bogata, Kingston and Nine Miles, Jamaica sing and play all of the instruments parts on this ground breaking collaboration. The rich musical legacy of Bob Marley transcends age and time. The Reggae music legend would have been 70 this year. We pay tribute to Bob with this collection of songs, performed by some of his youngest fans. This ten-track collection was performed entirely by Aaron Nigel Smith's 1World Chorus '“ a collaboration of children 7 to 15 years of age, from Kenya, Colombia, the United States and Jamaica. Judah Marley, granddaughter of the late reggae icon, also makes a guest vocal appearance on 'Bend Down Low'. These budding musicians performed everything from the first drumbeat to the last vocal take, tracking the album over 18 months in studios around the world. During the production process, the children strengthened their own musicianship and learned basic recording techniques. Bob Marley had an affinity for sharing music with children '“ teaching his own, guiding them to form Ziggy Marley Melody Maker's, and penning their first song 'Children Playing In The Streets'. Marley's love for sharing music with children also shines through in the timeless 'Is This Love' video. 'Celebrate Bob Marley' reinforces how deep Marley's musical imprint and message of 'One Love' continues to reach, resonating with kids of all ages. In addition to providing free music workshops to schools participating in this special project, a portion of sales will benefit these music programs. Further, 1World Chorus has partnered with some of the nation's leading companies to provide on-going support to the project. Remo Drums, Martin Guitars and Guitar Center have all donated musical instructions to the schools, with Keen Footwear donating socks and shoes to the students.

Testimonials

  • “It is hard to articulate the pride you feel as a parent when you see your kid perform on-stage. As a music teacher for fifteen years, it is easy to say that choosing the Downingtown School of Rock for our fifteen year-old son, was indeed, the best parenting decision we have made yet. ”
    — Susan B., parent, Unionville, PA
  • “When we decided to send our daughter to SOR, we never imagined what a positive impact that one decision would have on her life. She transformed from a shy, quiet kid to a confident, incredible musician, with an active social life and many close friends she considers her second family. The amazing memories she’ll always have of touring and performing with the All-Stars at world-renowned venues and festivals are just icing on the cake. ”
