  • Our Rock 101 Program at School of Rock Eden Prairie is focused on making the first steps of a young student’s journey both fun and successful. The days of mundane music instruction are over. At School of Rock Eden Prairie, we believe that playing music together is the only real path to mastering an instrument and developing a true love for music.

In Rock 101, we focus our instruction on the one instrument that students have chosen to study. Whether we’re teaching scales, chords, notes, or time signatures, we put concepts in context so students understand how the principles they learn are applied to real music. Using some of the world’s most famous songs and infusing fun into every chord, Rock 101 allows Eden Prairie students to enhance their skills and move on to our Performance Program.

The skills and passion for music that our Rookies learn prepares them for Rock 101 and a lifelong love of music.

With exercises, tools and games customized to their age group, our Eden Prairie Rookies learn the concepts of music theory, rhythm, pitch, form and dynamics as they play alongside their friends. We encourage our students to explore various instruments and play styles so they begin to understand how individual contributions form a band; even the best solo keyboard players or vocalists need to understand how an ensemble works.

Queens of the Stone Age “One of the most interesting and critically acclaimed hard rock bands of the 2000s. The band's eclectic approach to rock produced arty, blues-based albums that wandered stylistically from gentle acoustic songs and Delta blues stomps to Black Sabbath-like metal and the thick, sludgy garage rock characteristic of early-Nineties grunge bands," said Rolling Stone magazine.

Some people were just meant to be a teacher and Caiti Allison is one of them. From 6 year olds to 18 year olds, students love her. She connects with each student individually and molds her teaching style to fit their learning style. She engages students in both private lessons and group classes. In a recent school party, Caiti took on the role of Axl Rose of Guns n Roses while jamming with students (source of her bio photo).

Caiti is a Twin Cities native and 2011 graduate of McNally Smith College of Music. She has been teaching private lessons on voice and flute since graduating. Caiti started playing the flute at age 8, but has been singing and creating songs for as long as she can remember. She has too many favorite artists to list, but they all write songs that tell stories.

She previously spent 7 years volunteering with the Minnesota Children's Museum, including many years as a Story Time Reader and a semester as Education Department Intern.

Nate began playing piano when he was 7 years old. He continued traditional, classical piano lessons until the age of 13. When he was 12, he picked up a guitar and that became his passion.

He studied guitar from the age of 12 through graduating from the St Paul Conservatory of Performing Artists High School and during his time at Musicians Institute - College of Contemporary Music in Los Angeles CA. As the saying goes, "in music, you never stop learning" and Nate continues to work at his craft through is own music project, Nate Beck and The Manchester Social Club.

While in L.A. Nate fronted a band called Black Velvet Deluxe which was nominated for a Rock Single of the Year in the L.A. Music Awards. The band was known to open for Gilby Clarke (best known for a 3-year tenure as the rhythm guitarist of Guns N' Roses, replacing Izzy Stradlin in 1991 during the Use Your Illusion Tour) and Adler's Appetite (headed by Steven Adler, best known as the original drummer of Guns n Roses.) In addition to playing live music, Nate also licensed music to several TV shows.

After 8 years in L.A., Nate returned home to the Twin Cities where he founded the band The Manchester Social Club, which was named one of the Top 10 Unsigned Punk Bands in America by PopPunk Magazine and the Best Band of the Year for 2014 and 2015 by Minneapolis Happenings Magazine.

Nate now gigs as a solo singer/songwriter.

During his teen years, Nate was a student at the St. Paul School of Rock where he was selected as a School of Rock All Star.

In addition to guitar and keys, Nate also plays drums and bass.

Sean Johnson has been involved in music his entire life. As a kid he took music lessons, formed his own band at 16, and tinkered with recording, producing, copy writing and voice acting. He’s proficient playing guitar, drums, bass and keys. He can also rap. Yep! Ask him to rap for you!

Sean studied Recording and Live Sound at the Madison Media Institute in Madison WI, using what he learned to work in television production for four years prior to pursuing his music business career.

At 23 years old he became one of the fastest and youngest employees ever promoted to Assistant Manager within Guitar Center when he worked at GC in Roseville MN in the early 2000’s. Wanting to see more of the world and test his business acumen, Sean moved to Central Europe where he launched his own DJ/Audio Engineering business and worked as an English language teacher. During his eight years there he met and married his wife, Karol.

Sean, his wife and daughter and their two dogs (who you’ll likely see at School of Rock on occasion) returned to the Twin Cities where Karol works as a personal trainer and Sean is managing the Eden Prairie School of Rock.

Do you have a Teen Driver in your house? If so, you've likely talked about fastening the seatbelt while driving, no texting and driving and don't talk on your cellphone and drive. But have you talked with them about what to do if they break down, have a flat tire, the car won't start -- or in a Minnesota winter - what to do if they end up in a snow bank?

These are discussions to have BEFORE they find themselves in that situation. Research shows that 73% of young drivers experienced a breakdown last year.

Talk with your teen NOW. If you're in St Paul, Minneapolis or the metro Twin Cities Minnesota area,
PUT THIS NUMBER IN YOUR TEENS PHONE RIGHT NOW!
      651-955-6475

Tell them if they have a flat tire, end up in a snow bank, their car won't start or they lock themselves out of their car, to call Smitty Big Tow. This is a family-owned business and a friend of the owner of School of Rock Eden Prairie so you can be confident he'll take care of your teen and won't take advantage of them. After all, you don't want your teen calling their friend for help in one of these situations (which will be their first inclination if you don't discuss it ahead of time.)

If you have another Roadside Assistance Program, be sure THAT phone number is in your teen's cell phone. AND, be sure to make your teen aware of Tow Truck Bandits.

These “bandit” tow truck operators monitor police radios and respond to accidents seeking to hook up vehicles and tow them to body shops or storage facilities where they are held hostage until the motorists and their insurance companies pay inflated towing, storage and possibly repair charges to get the vehicle back.

Tow Truck bandits drive the highways and troll parking lots looking for drivers who are broken down or have been in a wreck. They make you (or your teen) feel like it's your "lucky day" because they just happened to be driving by and are there to help. Nothing could be farther from the truth but, because no one likes to wait for the tow truck they called (or they don't realize this ISN"T the tow truck they called), they agree to allow this tow truck to help them. The bandit will say the car can't be jumpstarted or the tire can't be changed and the car needs to be towed. Once that form is signed and the vehicle is towed, getting it back is expensive.

“Towing charges, which should amount to a few hundred dollars, often skyrocket to a few thousand dollars once the bandit tow truck operator hauls the vehicle away from the accident scene,” said NICB Special Agent Doreen Sanchez. “The drivers may say they will take the vehicle to a location of the owner’s choice, but they then take it to an undisclosed body shop that is paying them a kickback. In addition to the exorbitant towing charges, the body shop will add on storage fees while the vehicle sits there as the owner and the insurance company are left in the dark as to where it was taken. All of this is designed to maximize the bill to the consumer.”

It's really important that your TEEN know about this scam. Whether it Smitty Big Towing & Recovery or your current roadside assistance tow truck provider, be sure your teen knows who is coming to help them -- and that they ONLY accept help from THAT tow truck.

      Keep Your Teen Driver safe.

  • “The instruction that my son gets is first-rate. His private lesson instructor is phenomenal. My son comes out each lesson pretty enthused about guitar, and when he gets home he just pulls his Strat out and keeps playing. The performance component has really helped his confidence, at SoR, but also at school and in life. You can't ask for more than that. ”
