  • Our Rock 101 Program at School of Rock Eden Prairie is focused on making the first steps of a young student’s journey both fun and successful. The days of mundane music instruction are over. At School of Rock Eden Prairie, we believe that playing music together is the only real path to mastering an instrument and developing a true love for music.

In Rock 101, we focus our instruction on the one instrument that students have chosen to study. Whether we’re teaching scales, chords, notes, or time signatures, we put concepts in context so students understand how the principles they learn are applied to real music. Using some of the world’s most famous songs and infusing fun into every chord, Rock 101 allows Eden Prairie students to enhance their skills and move on to our Performance Program.

School of Rock Eden Prairie’s Rock 101 students can expect:

    • Weekly private music lessons on guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, and/or vocals
    • Weekly group rehearsals to reinforce basic concepts and skills in a band setting

Each summer, our AllStars embark on an authentic concert tour to perform in jaw-dropping live shows across the country, including Red Rocks, Lollapalooza, Hangout Music Fest, NAMM, Gathering of the Vibes, and countless others. AllStars also get to share the stage with experienced, larger-than-life performers like Alice Cooper, Eddie Vedder, and Slash, to name a few. There is no better way for a star on the rise to get a taste for what professional music is really like.

School of Rock Eden Prairie’s AllStars can expect:

    • Real-world performances where they can shine in their chosen medium: guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, and/or vocals

  • School of Rock Eden Prairie’s Rookies Program offers a gateway to understanding music for first and second graders. Using proprietary set-ups for guitar, bass, drums and keyboard, as well as other tools, we introduce our Rookies to music fundamentals in a fun way. The skills and passion for music that our Rookies learn prepares them for Rock 101 and a lifelong love of music.

With exercises, tools and games customized to their age group, our Eden Prairie Rookies learn the concepts of music theory, rhythm, pitch, form and dynamics as they play alongside their friends. We encourage our students to explore various instruments and play styles so they begin to understand how individual contributions form a band; even the best solo keyboard players or vocalists need to understand how an ensemble works.

All students in Eden Prairie’s Rookies Program can expect:

    • Weekly group lessons using guitar, bass, keyboard and drums
    • Exposure to essential fundamentals like music theory, pitch and rhythm
    • A focus on teamwork and collaboration
    • An understanding of what it means to play solo and in a group
    • Fun combined with practical learning!

Are You Getting Your Child A Guitar For Christmas or Hannakuh?

If so, don't forget the guitar lessons as well! This Beginner Guitar Camp is designed to teach kids the basics they'll need to enjoy their new guitar.

This no-pressure, non-competitive camp is strictly about immersing one's self in the joys of playing guitar. The guitar teacher has several years experience teaching children who are beginner guitar players. Patience, enthusiasm and positive reinforcement are at the heart of all the activities in this camp.

In these Guitar Lessons campers will learn:

      The parts of the guitar
How to tune their guitar (using the free clip-on tuner they'll receive in camp)
How to plug into an amp properly (so they don't blow the speaker in the amp!)
      The notes on the fretboard
How to play open chords most commonly used in contemporary guitar music
How to play the riffs most often used in rock-n-roll
      Proper strumming and picking techniques

They'll put all these skills to use as they learn to play one (or two) songs over the course of the camp.Read less

Some people were just meant to be a teacher and Caiti Allison is one of them. From 6 year olds to 18 year olds, students love her. She connects with each student individually and molds her teaching style to fit their learning style. She engages students in both private lessons and group classes. In a recent school party, Caiti took on the role of Axl Rose of Guns n Roses while jamming with students (source of her bio photo).

Caiti is a Twin Cities native and 2011 graduate of McNally Smith College of Music. She has been teaching private lessons on voice and flute since graduating. Caiti started playing the flute at age 8, but has been singing and creating songs for as long as she can remember. She has too many favorite artists to list, but they all write songs that tell stories.

She previously spent 7 years volunteering with the Minnesota Children's Museum, including many years as a Story Time Reader and a semester as Education Department Intern.

Originally from Berwick, Louisiana Leon came to Minnesota via California. Having performed with six bands and played countless sessions, Leon’s real passion is teaching. And he particularly likes teaching at School of Rock. “The students and staff are always bringing a smile to my face to make this job more of passion and fun than hard work.” You can see Leon’s enthusiasm for teaching with each student.

Nate began playing piano when he was 7 years old. He continued traditional, classical piano lessons until the age of 13. When he was 12, he picked up a guitar and that became his passion.

He studied guitar from the age of 12 through graduating from the St Paul Conservatory of Performing Artists High School and during his time at Musicians Institute - College of Contemporary Music in Los Angeles CA. As the saying goes, "in music, you never stop learning" and Nate continues to work at his craft through is own music project, Nate Beck and The Manchester Social Club.

While in L.A. Nate fronted a band called Black Velvet Deluxe which was nominated for a Rock Single of the Year in the L.A. Music Awards. The band was known to open for Gilby Clarke (best known for a 3-year tenure as the rhythm guitarist of Guns N' Roses, replacing Izzy Stradlin in 1991 during the Use Your Illusion Tour) and Adler's Appetite (headed by Steven Adler, best known as the original drummer of Guns n Roses.) In addition to playing live music, Nate also licensed music to several TV shows.

After 8 years in L.A., Nate returned home to the Twin Cities where he founded the band The Manchester Social Club, which was named one of the Top 10 Unsigned Punk Bands in America by PopPunk Magazine and the Best Band of the Year for 2014 and 2015 by Minneapolis Happenings Magazine.

Nate now gigs as a solo singer/songwriter.

During his teen years, Nate was a student at the St. Paul School of Rock where he was selected as a School of Rock All Star.

In addition to guitar and keys, Nate also plays drums and bass.

Do you have a Teen Driver in your house? If so, you've likely talked about fastening the seatbelt while driving, no texting and driving and don't talk on your cellphone and drive. But have you talked with them about what to do if they break down, have a flat tire, the car won't start -- or in a Minnesota winter - what to do if they end up in a snow bank?

These are discussions to have BEFORE they find themselves in that situation. Research shows that 73% of young drivers experienced a breakdown last year.

Talk with your teen NOW. If you're in St Paul, Minneapolis or the metro Twin Cities Minnesota area,
PUT THIS NUMBER IN YOUR TEENS PHONE RIGHT NOW!
      651-955-6475

Tell them if they have a flat tire, end up in a snow bank, their car won't start or they lock themselves out of their car, to call Smitty Big Tow. This is a family-owned business and a friend of the owner of School of Rock Eden Prairie so you can be confident he'll take care of your teen and won't take advantage of them. After all, you don't want your teen calling their friend for help in one of these situations (which will be their first inclination if you don't discuss it ahead of time.)

If you have another Roadside Assistance Program, be sure THAT phone number is in your teen's cell phone. AND, be sure to make your teen aware of Tow Truck Bandits.

These “bandit” tow truck operators monitor police radios and respond to accidents seeking to hook up vehicles and tow them to body shops or storage facilities where they are held hostage until the motorists and their insurance companies pay inflated towing, storage and possibly repair charges to get the vehicle back.

Tow Truck bandits drive the highways and troll parking lots looking for drivers who are broken down or have been in a wreck. They make you (or your teen) feel like it's your "lucky day" because they just happened to be driving by and are there to help. Nothing could be farther from the truth but, because no one likes to wait for the tow truck they called (or they don't realize this ISN"T the tow truck they called), they agree to allow this tow truck to help them. The bandit will say the car can't be jumpstarted or the tire can't be changed and the car needs to be towed. Once that form is signed and the vehicle is towed, getting it back is expensive.

“Towing charges, which should amount to a few hundred dollars, often skyrocket to a few thousand dollars once the bandit tow truck operator hauls the vehicle away from the accident scene,” said NICB Special Agent Doreen Sanchez. “The drivers may say they will take the vehicle to a location of the owner’s choice, but they then take it to an undisclosed body shop that is paying them a kickback. In addition to the exorbitant towing charges, the body shop will add on storage fees while the vehicle sits there as the owner and the insurance company are left in the dark as to where it was taken. All of this is designed to maximize the bill to the consumer.”

It's really important that your TEEN know about this scam. Whether it Smitty Big Towing & Recovery or your current roadside assistance tow truck provider, be sure your teen knows who is coming to help them -- and that they ONLY accept help from THAT tow truck.

      Keep Your Teen Driver safe.

Testimonials

  • “The instruction that my son gets is first-rate. His private lesson instructor is phenomenal. My son comes out each lesson pretty enthused about guitar, and when he gets home he just pulls his Strat out and keeps playing. The performance component has really helped his confidence, at SoR, but also at school and in life. You can't ask for more than that. ”
    — JIm B., parent, Eden Prairie, MN
  • “Rookies is a great opportunity for young kids to try multiple options before committing to one instrument - very age appropriate, my son loves it!”
    — Janice S., parent, Minnetonka, MN
  • “It's so much fun to come every week and see everyone and perform with my group. Everyone is so fun, nice, and supportive and I am always looking forward to my performance rehearsal. It's so cool being able to perform in a band and it's so special.”
    — Allie C., student, Eden Prairie, MN
