Hugh started playing the guitar when he was 16 years old, and had a lot of catching up to do, as most of his friends had been playing music from very young ages. He was determined to get to their level so he could play music with them. He devoted most of his free time through out high school to learning about and playing the guitar, both in private lessons, amongst his friends, and on his own. After high school, Hugh studied guitar and music theory at college and improved greatly. After two years, he ended up leaving school to take the opportunity to tour the country and play various showcases with a pop band. After a couple years of touring, he wanted to take a new direction musically, and formed a band of his own with a group of very talented friends of his. This group is where Hugh had his first experience with the bass guitar. He took to love the bass more than he ever thought he would. Since discovering his passion for the bass, he has studied the instrument very hard and has grown tremendously as a musician.Hugh has an excellent background for understanding the School of Rock programs and philosophy, as he himself remembers what it's like to yearn to perform in a band. He is careful to help his students successfully move through the learning process at their own pace, and to prepare lesson plans that will benefit each individual student's needs. Hugh teaches both the guitar and the bass at the School of Rock East Brunswick. He teaches his students a combination of performance as well as music theory in order to give them a deep understanding of their instrument and of music.
