  • Our Rock 101 Program at School of Rock Denver (new) is focused on making the first steps of a young student’s journey both fun and successful. The days of mundane music instruction are over. At School of Rock Denver (new), we believe that playing music together is the only real path to mastering an instrument and developing a true love for music.

In Rock 101, we focus our instruction on the one instrument that students have chosen to study. Whether we’re teaching scales, chords, notes, or time signatures, we put concepts in context so students understand how the principles they learn are applied to real music. Using some of the world’s most famous songs and infusing fun into every chord, Rock 101 allows Denver (new) students to enhance their skills and move on to our Performance Program.

School of Rock Denver (new)’s Rock 101 students can expect:

Jim has been playing music for most of his life, starting with classical piano at age 4, and moving on to jazz and rock styles throughout his childhood in the suburbs of Chicago, while performing at festivals and other events in the Midwest in addition to a few tours through the Southeast. After moving to Denver to attend college, he has spent the past several years playing in local bands. Jim has performed at most of the venues in Denver and on the ski town circuit, and has logged quite a bit of time in the studio as well. He has also worked in TV and radio, and spent several years managing and producing large events and concerts. Having been fortunate enough to grow up in an environment with a very strong music education program, Jim is committed to providing the same great experience for the students at School of Rock Denver.

Woody Potter has a passion for rhythm. "It is the heart beat of the world and all its people." It drives his creativity and fuels his love of music. He is intuitive, primal, thoughtful and understanding in his playing. He strives to build a sense of personality while playing; giving his beats an identity within the song, musicians and moment. "Music should be a reflection of the people playing it, as a drummer I am always trying to rehumanize the modern sound." Experience with styles ranging from classical, jazz, latin, world, country, fusion, rock, metal, punk, hardcore, ska, dance, and alternative have given him a love for finding and creating music that is just a little beyond main-stream. "...but I love Pop Music too!" He finds fulfillment in music that is rich in dynamic and subtlety. "Just really simple stuff most of the time." He has an emphasis on groove and feel, and is determined to help kids feel comfortable and confident.

Testimonials

  • “School of Rock provides opportunities not just for kids to learn the classic material and techniques of rock and roll, but also provides them with fantastic lessons in problem solving, team building, and the rewards of hard work while building their self esteem and confidence (all while having a blast). The SoR experience creates not only rock stars on stage, but it transfers into other areas of the kids lives as well! ”
    — Rocker Mom, Salt Lake City, UT
  • “You are transforming my child into someone who knows that she "can." She doesn't hope for the "I can" anymore - she KNOWS she can now. Our daughter is learning how to come out of herself, take risks, close her eyes and just fly. We are so grateful. More than you can ever know. ”
    — Francine & Lou, Fort Washington, PA
  • “We are absolutely delighted with the music program here. Our kids not only learn how to play an instrument, they get to collaborate with other musicians and play performances early on. We are so impressed with how much they have learned and how excited they are about music. And best of all, their appreciation for music has completely transformed. ”
    — Melissa Hourigan, Denver, CO
  • “School of Rock has taught me to work hard for things that I want to get (like being an AllStar), and it's taught me to work really well with others, and has improved my communication skills. ”
