David Bodie grew up in a musical household and has been playing drums since the age of 9. An avid love of music kept him studying, practicing, and playing any opportunity he could. Studying multiple styles of music throughout his career, most notably at the Drum Collective in NYC, David has developed a quirky style which has proven a boon for all projects he gets involved with, especially in the Avant Garde music scene in NYC for bands such as Time of Orchids and Kayo Dot among many others. Currently David lends his beats to the band Infantephant(You can listen to Infantephant and some of Daves other projects at http://infantephant.bandcamp.com/ ). He began his career for School of Rock in 2010 at the Tenafly, NJ branch where he still teaches to this day.Photo Credit: Peter Gannushkin / DOWNTOWNMUSIC.NET

Will Grandin has been playing music since the fourth grade, starting with viola. When he started high school in 2003, his friend convinced him to start playing bass because he needed a bassist and "viola has four strings and so does bass, so it should be easy." Performance has always been central to his playing and he has been performing in groups since he started playing bass. As he played more and grew more as a musician, Will played in groups of genres ranging from classic rock to punk to funk to jam to pop to garage rock to progressive to blues. College brought Will to SUNY Binghamton, where he studied music theory and continued performing in the orchestra. After realizing that he couldn't study any contemporary music or the bass guitar there, Will transferred to SUNY Oneonta where he majored in Music Industry and minored in Audio Arts Production and Music Performance. In his time at SUNY Oneonta, Will focused largely on improvisational playing, studying with Dr. Joe Pignato, honing his performance chops and fine tuning his improvisation on the bass. After graduating, Will realized that passing on all he has learned on the bass to the next generation of rock stars and he jumped at the chance to be a teacher at School of Rock.

A capital region native, Ryan Devine began formal piano lessons when he was 6 years old. Inspired by his mother, a pianist and music director at their local church, Ryan followed in her footsteps, attending the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam. It was there he met his friend and future bandmate, who convinced him to set aside the sonatas and try his hand at rock music. After college, and back in Albany, Ryan helped form the band Wreckloose, while teaching music classes and piano lessons full-time. Wreckloose played many festivals and venues in NY and Vermont, from '04-'08. For the past five summers, Ryan has hosted a summer rock band camp, where campers form a band, rehearse for a week, and play a gig on the last day. "I have had so much fun with it and am thrilled to be able to do it year round". Now, Ryan plays in a band with some friends, is the regular accompanist for the Voorheesville choirs and the eba Dance Theater, teaches classical piano lessons, and helps his mom at church whenever she asks.

Guitarist Zach Ferrara not only considers himself a musician but also a composer, performer, multi-instrumentalist, teacher and producer of his own music. Not missing much of what the world has to offer musically, he listens to, studies, and ultimately incorporates into his own music a vast variety of genres, ideas, and sounds. Rock, Funk, Jazz, Classical, and Eastern music have all found a place in his playing and composing. Ferrara began his musical study at age 10 on the standup bass before picking up the electric bass and soon after the guitar. Growing up just north of Woodstock, NY in the Catskills, he spent much of his formative years learning Classic and Blues Rock in this tradition.

Ferrara holds a Bachelors Degree in Music Industry from The College of St. Rose. During his stay, he learned the business of music as well as the recording and technology side. It was also during this time that he began to broaden his musical horizons and started to study Jazz and Classical music not only on the guitar, but the bass as well. All the while he has been fostering a growing interest in the music of India and the sitar; which he studies on to this day. Upon graduation he immediately began teaching privately, performing with various bands and working as a pit musician for musicals. Currently, he is a graduate student pursuing a Master of Arts Degree in Ethnomusicology from Liberty University. His passion for teaching and performance leave him very happy teaching at the Albany, NY School of Rock!

Music has always been an important part of David Bodie's life. He began learning to play the drums at the age of 9 and would later have 'jam sessions' with his father, a vocalist and guitarist, in the basement of their home. Bodie joined a band in high school and eventually went on to tour internationally as a musician for several years. When he decided to settle down and have a family, a friend approached him with an interesting proposition. Would he like to teach music to young musicians at a School of Rock location in New Jersey? 'When I got the job, my friend was already looking into expanding. School of Rock is a franchise, so there's room to grow,' Bodie said. Even though Bodie was commuting from Saugerties to New Jersey several days a week, he fell in love with the job. Three years later, he is opening his own location in Latham. Testimonials

  • “I can’t tell you what an enriching experience this has been for our whole family and especially for Josh. The instructors there were so much more than teachers for Josh, they were his idols and his role models. It has been an amazing time, and I know that as Josh gets older he will look back on all the memories he made at the SOR fondly. You have created something special there, and I hope you understand what an impact your efforts have had on the lives of these children.Thank you for everything! ”
    — Tim Gallagher, Father of School of Rock Denver student
  • “Carlson's time at School of Rock helped her recruit most of her current bandmates. It spurred her to apply to Berklee which, unlike other colleges that offer music majors geared mainly toward classical and jazz, offered the opportunity to train as a well-rounded musician. ”
    — Chelsea Carson, student from Long Valley School of Rock
  • “School of Rock is the best thing we have done for our three children. They learn self-confidence, teamwork, and musicianship in an environment that is safe and free of the typical age-barrier restrictions that are often inherent in other student activities. The youngest and oldest kids in the school work together and everyone is an equal on stage. I wish other youth activities were as welcoming. ”
    — Tony C., parent, Great Valley, PA
  • “School of Rock has helped develop my daughter's self confidence. She just lights up when she is on stage. I just love watching and seeing her growth as a person and as a musician. SOR is her second family. ”
    — Lori H., parent, Downingtown, PA
